  • National Geographic Information Institute provides VRS service using permanent GPS networks. VRS-RTK(Virtual Reference System-Real Time Kinematic)GPS surveying which enable to accomplish the real time-based GPS surveying has been increasingly popular. However the positioning accuracy tends to deteriorate as the distance between the rover and base station increases in the VRS-RTK GPS surveying. To analysis this problem in this study, the accuracy of VRS-RTK data was analyzed with 2 different test sites of Geoje city, Gyeongnam province within and without the permanent GPS networks in order to accomplish the cadastral supplementary control surveying. As a result of surveying accuracy analysis at two test sites, positioning errors were ${\pm}0.03m$(RMSE) in both sites. The result was that within the tolerance specified in cadastral surveying law, and indicated the possibility of VRS-RTK GPS surveying in cadastral surveying.

  • Aplications of the real-time kinematic GPS surveying and inertial measurement unit have been beingRTK GPS allows the use of a static base station and remote rover unit to allow for data collectionwithin several seconds and in real time. It is useful for monitoring the behaviors of massive structureslike bridges. And this study purposed to implement a method of deciding the acurate dynaimc attitudeof structures by IMU. In this study, among GPS methods, we used RTK GPS to analyze the precisionof monitoring and then on the basis of it, we developed a monitoring system using RTK GPS anda deviation betwen observation values, X axis was 1mm, Y axis was 1mm and Z axis 2.2mm. I tturned out that it was possible to monitor and measure structures by RTK GPS and IMU.

  • We produced continuous vertical time series of 14 permanent GPS stations operated by National Geographic Information Institute by processing about five years of data. Then we computed the height velocities by using a linear regression fitting of those time series, and did principal component analysis to understand the overall characteristics of the series. The prominent signal obtained as the first mode of PCA results showed an average of 4.2 mm/yr vertical velocity. The values of the first mode eigenvectors were consistent at all sites. Thus, we concluded that all the 14 stations are uplifting nearly at the same velocity for the test period. Then changes of precision before and after removing the first mode signal from the 14 height time series were analyzed. As a result, the precision improved 34.8% on average.

  • Inertial navigation system(INS) errors increase with time due to inertial sensor errors, and therefore it is desired to combine INS with external aids such as GPS. However GPS informations have a randomly abrupt jump due to a sudden corruption of the received satellite signals and environment, and moreover GPS can\`t provide navigation solutions. In this paper, smoothing and prediction schemes are proposed for GPS`s jump or unavailable GPS. The smoothing algorithm which is designed as a scalar adaptive filter, smooths abrupt jump. The prediction algorithm which is proved by Schuler error model of INS, estimates INS error in appropriate time. The outputs of proposed algorithm apply stable measurements to GPS aided INS Kalman filter. Simulations show that the proposed algorithm can effectively remove measurement jump and predict INS error.

  • In this paper, we have proposed a capability of applying Global Positioning System(GPS) to cannon laying. High precision GPS positioning can be used for measuring precise positions and angles. Therefore, we have tested on applying GPS positioning technique to measurement of positions and angles, which related to cannon laying. First of all, we have determined a GPS reference position using various positioning methods. Then we have carried out several tests that are process of taking corner angles between neighboring two vectors. Each vector can be calculated by post/real time positioning of two GPS antennas placed on the both ends of the howitzer. The Comer Angles from Post processing(CAP) are compared with the other Corner Angles from Real time positioning(CAR). As the results, we have an agreement between CAP and CAR within 0.25 mil average, 0.29 mil standard deviation. Finally, we have discussed about the capabilities and problems in artillery arrangement using GPS.

  • This paper describes a new program called GPS_QC needed to check the quality of GPS observations before post-processing so that the surveyors can be improved the precision of GPS data analysis. The GPS_QC was designed to calculate the quality control (QC) parameters such as data gaps, cycle slips, low elevation angle, inonspheric delay, multi-path effects and DOP etc, within the period of GPS observation. It can be used to read and calculate the QC parameters from RINEX files. This program gives users brief statistics, time series plots and graphs of QC parameters. The GPS_QC can simply be performed the quality checking of GPS data that was difficult for surveyors in the field. It is expected that we can be improved the precision of positioning and solved the time consuming problem of GPS observation.

  • With the high demand for Geographic Information System and the diversification of Spatial Information, it has been required a rapid and accurate input system, updating system and an efficient field survey system to organize database for thematic mapping. Following the purpose, several indispensable modules have to be Invented to build a GPS Lap-top Computer System using low cost GPS receivers. These modules include such as an interface module between GPS receivers and lap-top computers, a data processing module for standalone GPS or Real-time Differential GPS, a module to input or amend digital map and to transfer three-dimensional coordinates in real-time, and finially a module to enter attribute value and feature code based on standard specification of digital maps for controlling position and attribute data. In this paper, it Is presented the efficiency of method to acquire and to input or to amend spatial information using a GPS Lap-top Computer System.

  • GPS has become an established technique in structural health monitoring. This paper presents the application of an on-line GPS RTK system on the Zhujiang Huangpu Bridge (China) for monitoring bridge deck and towers movements. In this study, both the form and functions of movements of the deck and towers of the bridge under affecting loads were monitored in lateral, longitudinal and vertical directions. Such movements were described in time and frequency domains by determining the trend, torsion, periodical of the series using probability density function (PDF). The results of the time series GPS data are practical and useful to bridge health monitoring.

  • The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the applicability of GPS data for real-time traffic information collection especially after SA removal. Two major results have been reported. One is the GPS data availability and/or useful data point density for travel time estimation using Circle-X algorithm. 87.23% of data points can be mobilized after SA whereas only 29.94% of data was useful in calculating travel time. The other is the possible reduction of the buffer size that is used for screening the points of all GPS into useful and useless data, respectively. With these outcomes, it is safely expected that the regular GPS alone can provide the data points for real-time travel time estimation instead of the more expensive DGPS system.
