  • In this paper, an efficient signal tracking method to simultaneously track both GPS L1 C/A and Galileo E1B CBOC(6,1,1/11) using a low cost GPU is proposed. In the existing method that each GNSS signal is processed within 1 ms, more than 2 ms processing time is required in GPU to process 4 ms CBOC signal. It means that real time operation is possible if only Galileo E1B CBOC signal is concerned. But when both GPS C/A and Galileo CBOC is required, it cannot process GPS C/A signal in real time. To process 1 ms GPS C/A and 4 ms Galileo CBOC signal in real time, 4 ms Galileo CBOC signal is divided into 4 by 1 ms signal block in the proposed method. Specially, a buffer that simultaneously manages 1 ms and 4 ms signals is designed. In addition, a module that accumulates the 1 ms correlation value of the Galileo CBOC by 4 ms and passes it to the PLL and DLL is implemented. The operation and performance are evaluated with real measurements in the GPU based SDR. The experimental results show that tracking of more than 16 satellites of GPS C/A and Galileo E1B is possible using the proposed method.

  • The number of mobile terminals equipped with a GPS module is steadily increasing today. However, because they using code pseudorange measurements in positioning, the positioning accuracy of mobile terminals is lower than that of those receivers using carrier phases. Especially, the multipath signal causes more significant errors in code pseudoranges. Therefore, the techniques of multipath detection and elimination is necessary. In this study, as an initial analysis of multipath detection and elimination technique development, we tested the feasibility of multipath signal detection using GPS signal strength information. We found that the GPS signal strength increases as the elevation angle gets higher in the open-sky environment. Also, we found that the signal strength decreases when there were some signal reflectors nearby. We checked the repeatability of the signal strength variation characteristics by reflecting repeat time of GPS satellites. As a result, this characteristics repeats almost perfectly when GPS satellites pass the same orbit. Therefore, we found that it is not a temporary phenomenon and the multipath signal detection should be possible by using GPS signal strength information.

  • The previous acquisition method of GPS receiver for reference station adopts not only the coherent integration method but also the non-coherent integration method in order to enhance sensitivity under noisy environment. However, under noisy environment, the previous GPS signal acquisition method causes the non-coherent integration loss which is a major factor among losses that can be caused during GPS signal acquisition. The non-coherent integration loss also increases with the strength of the received noise. This paper has intention of analyzing the performance of the GPS signal acquisition method proposed to effectively enhance sensitivity of DGPS reference receiver under noisy environment. This paper presents that the proposed GPS signal acquisition method suppresses the non-coherent integration loss through post-processing simulation. Furthermore, with regard to the mean acquisition time, it is shown that the number of search cells of the proposed GPS signal acquisition method is much fewer than that of the previous GPS signal acquisition method.

  • The software GPS receivers based on the SDR technology provide the ability to easily adapt the other signal processing algorithms without changing or modifying the hardware of the GPS receiver. However, it is difficult to implement the software GPS receivers using a commercial processor because of the heavy computational burden for processing the GPS signals in real-time. This paper proposes an efficient GPS signal processing scheme to reduce the computational burden for processing the GPS signals in the software GPS receiver, which uses a fundamental notion compressing the replica signals and the encoded look-up table method to generate correlation values between GPS signals and replica signals. In this paper, it is explained that the computational burden of the proposed scheme is much smaller than that of the typical GPS signal processing scheme. Finally, the processing time of the proposed scheme is compared with that of the typical scheme, and the improvement in the aspect of the computational burden is also shown.

  • In this paper, an effect on a GPS receiver by spoofing signal is analyzed and a GPS spoofing signal detection algorithm for GPS L1 C/A spoofing signal is proposed. A proposed detection algorithm monitors the correlation function distortion by the spoofing signal. If detected distortion is over a detection threshold, we can determine that the spoofing signal is received. The detection threshold is calculated from the statistical characteristics of a thermal noise. For verifying the suggested algorithm, a MATLAB-based simulation platform is implemented. This platform has functionalities to track GPS signal and measure the correlation values. By using this platform, the correlation function distortion by spoofing signal is observed. Also a performance of the algorithm proposed in this paper is applied and confirm the detection of a spoofing signal.

  • This paper analyzes what is mitigated as spoofing attack using the U-Blox Receiver and GPS RF signal generator developed at ETRI. Generally the spoofing attack made the target receiver to be wrong navigation solution by providing false measurement of code and carrier. So we analyzed the impact of spoofing attack through the signal strength and navigation solution. In oder to test of effect of anti-spoofing signal, we consider the signal with antiphase code to spoofing signal and generated GPS normal signal and spoofing signal and anti-spoofing signal using GPS RF signal generator. This paper analyzed that the GPS receiver was responded to the spoofing attack according to code phase difference between spoofing and anti-spoofing signal. We confirmed that the spoofing signal was disappeared by anti-spoofing signal if code phase is an exact match.

  • For sensitivity enhancement, the general assisted-GPS acquisition method adopts not only the coherent accumulation technique but also the non-coherent accumulation technique since the long coherent accumulation period increases the number of frequency search cells. But the non-coherent accumulation technique causes tile squaring loss, which is a dominant factor among the acquisition losses of assisted GPS dealing with weak GPS signals. This paper derives the squaring loss of the previous assisted-GPS acquisition method and proposes an assisted-GPS acquisition method for solving the problem of squaring loss in weak signal environment. In this paper, it is explained that the proposed assisted-GPS acquisition method prevents the squaring loss using a coupled coherent accumulation technique and the number of search cells of the proposed assisted-GPS acquisition method is much smaller than that of the previous assisted-GPS acquisition method. Finally, through the simulation by the GPS simulator, the acquisition success rate of the proposed assisted-GPS acquisition method is compared with that of the previous assisted-GPS acquisition method and the acquisition improvements are shown in weak signal environment.

  • This paper proposes a signal merging algorithm to increase the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of a GPS correlator output to estimate the roll angle of a rotating vehicle in a weak GPS signal environment. Rotation Locked Loop (RLL) algorithm is used to estimate a roll angle using the characteristics that the power of the GPS signal measured at the receiver of a rotating vehicle varies periodically. First, delay times are calculated to synchronize GPS signals using satellites' and receiver's positions and the rotation frequency of a vehicle, and then correlator outputs are delayed in time and merged with each other, resulting in the increase of an SNR in a correlator output. Finally, simulations are conducted and the performance of the proposed algorithm is validated.

  • In this paper, a low-cost, flexible GPS simulator based on USRP is designed as a general-purpose software wireless front-end. The simulator consists of a software GPS signal generator and a USRP-based RF transmitter. The simulator supports various scenarios including specified reception time, quantization bit level, I/Q data types, IF frequency, sampling frequency, SNR, ionospheric delay and user dynamics. The generated GPS RF signal is verified using the spectrum analyzer and off-the-shelf GNSS receivers such as U-blox M8T. The experimental results shows that the difference between generated and real live signal is ignorable. It is expected that designed GPS simulator can be used to GNSS signal design, receiver design and signal processing algorithms such as anti-jamming.

  • In this paper, an adaptive signal tracking loop for a GPS L1/L2C/L5 receiver is designed. The design parameters is adjusted according to the receiver's operating conditions such as the signal strength and the receiver dynamics by using the different characteristics of GPS L1, L2C and L5 signal. Simulation results show that the tracking accuracy of the proposed signal tracking loop is better than those of L1, L2C and L5 only signal tracking loop.
