  • This paper presents design simulation, implementation, and measurement of a miniaturized GPS/K-PCS dual-band LTCC chip antenna for mobile communication handsets. The dimension of LTCC chip antenna is $9mm{\times}15mm{\times}1.2mm$. The lower meander type antenna is to be tuned to the lower frequency (GPS) band and the upper meander antenna with via hole connection is to contribute the higher frequency (K-PCS) band. In order to lowering the resonant frequency for GPS band, two printed modified meander antenna with gap stub is used to integrate with PCS band operation. The measured resonant frequency at GPS band shifts to lower frequency about 100MHz. The measured impedance bandwidth(VSWR $\leq$ 2) are 55MHz and 120MHz at the resonant frequency. respectively.

  • In this study, thermal model for backplane of GPS antenna in Low Earth Orbit Satellite is updated and orbit thermal analysis is performed. The analysis is focused on the safehold mode of satellite. During the safehold mode, the solar panel is constantly looking to the Sun, and there is not a mission maneuvering. Therefore, antenna backplane receives the maximum heat influx considering the End-Of-Life condition. To maintain the temperature of antenna within allowable limits, radiating tape is applied and its area is determined. Besides, to verify the lowest temperature of the antenna, cold case with Begin-Of-Life analysis is also performed.

  • In the GPS/DR integrated system, the GPS position(or velocity) is used to compensate the DR output and to calibrate errors of the DR sensor. This synergistic relationship ensures that the calibrated DR accuracy can be maintained even when the GPS signal is blocked. Because of the observability problem, however, the DR sensors are not sufficiently calibrated when the vehicle speed is low. This problem can be solved if we use a multi-antenna GPS receiver for attitude determination instead of conventional one. This paper designs a two-antenna GP receiver integrated with DR sensors. The proposed integration system has three remarkable features. First, the DR sensor can be calibrated regardless of the vehicle speed with the aid of two-antenna GPS receiver. Secondly, the search space of integer ambiguities in GPS carrier-phase measurements is reduced to a part of the surface of the sphere using DR heading. Thirdly, the detection resolution of cycle-slips in GPS carrier-phase measurements is improved with the aid of DR heading. From the experimental result, it is shown that the search space is drastically reduced to about 3/20 of the non-aided case and the cycle-slips of 1 or half cycle can be detected.

  • In recent years, Container Security Device(CSD) using GPS & GLONASS to improve logistics efficiency are being extensively researched. The purpose of this paper is to examine the performance development antenna usable cargo container security transport. Antenna developed by study were optimized to match logistics environment apply to GPS/GLONASS dual frequency for monitering system. The measure of antenna have confirmation about frequency characteristics each 1575.42MHz, 1602MHz and VSWR is 2:1 measured in return loss -9.54dB. Reliability of this antenna has been verified about GPS/GLONASS through test-operation between the south korea and Russia.

  • In this paper, we suggest a flexible multiband antenna which can be equipped on an inflatable life-jacket. The antenna can send distress alert and location data of survivors to assist rescue operation when crew or people are in distress. The antenna operate in three frequency bands such as VHF-DSC band (156MHz), COSPAS-SARSAT band (406MHz) and GPS band (1,575MHz). The GPS band is implemented with a square ring-slot planar antenna, the COSPAS-SARSAT band and the VHF-DSC band antenna is implemented by monopole type. In order to give flexibility of substrate to be equipped on life-jacket, FR4-epoxy substrate of thickness 0.2mm is used to make antenna. The reflection coefficients of the fabricated antenna are -8.8dB, -20.4dB and -10.7dB at each bandwidth like VHF-DSC, COSPAS-SARSAT and GPS band, respectively, when people are wearing life-jacket integrated multiband antenna.

  • This letter presents a novel compact circularly polarized patch antenna for Global Positioning System/Global Navigation Satellite System (GPS/GLONASS) applications. The proposed antenna is composed of a simple square radiating patch fed by a capacitive dual-feeder to increase the impedance bandwidth and a lumped element hybrid coupler to achieve the broadband characteristic of the axial ratio (AR). The realized antenna dimensions are $28mm{\times}28mm{\times}4mm$, which is the most compact size among the dual-band GPS/GLONASS antennas reported to date. The measured results demonstrate that the proposed antenna has a gain of 2.5 dBi to 4.2 dBi and an AR of 0.41 dB to 1.51 dB over the GPS/GLONASS L1 band (1.575 GHz to 1.61 GHz).

  • Global Positioning System(GPS) is a useful system used in both civilian and military applications. However, the signal of GPS is susceptible to jamming attacks due to low receive sensitivity, since the signals come from the satellite located at over 20,000 km above the earth. In this paper, we have conducted a preceding research on a non-Foster matching circuit that efficiently matches an electrically ultra-small GPS antenna. Electrically Small Antennas(ESAs) are inefficient radiators and are difficult to match in wideband due to extremely high quality factor. In order to match small GPS antenna in wideband, a non-Foster matching circuit for a small GPS antenna was designed. A negative impedance converter circuit consisting of Linvill's cross-coupled pair transistors was fabricated and its stability was verified by the time-domain stability analysis. In addition, anechoic chamber measurements show that the non-Foster matching circuit for small GPS antenna can lead bore-sight gain improvement by more than 17 dB.

  • In this paper, an antenna for telematics is proposed. It operates at GPS/GSM frequency-bands and it can be installed inside of a vehicle. There is a great difference between the proposed antenna and commonly used antennas. It needs not to use a dielectric with a high permittivity since it is formed on a sheet of FR4 with only 1mm thickness. Thus, it is possible to cut costs and make process of manufacture simple. Planar inverted-F antenna(PIFA) for GSM and microstrip antenna(MSA) for GPS is designed and PIFA-MSA antenna is proposed. The height is lower than that of commonly used antennas. And polarization of the PIFA and MSA is arranged perpendicularly for isolation improvement of each port, thus isolation of these two antennas is improved. Also, it is sufficient for the all specifications.

  • Recently, the dual-polarized antenna array has drawn attention due to the dependency of its signal processing gain on the signal polarization. Even though this polarization dependency makes it possible to mitigate a non-right-hand circularly polarized (non-RHCP) jamming signal from the same direction as a GPS signal, the dual-polarized antennas are not yet widely used for various applications. This study suggests a method that can acquire the polarization dependency of the signal-processing gain by intentionally misaligning antenna elements in a single-polarized antenna array. The simulation results show that the proposed method can successfully mitigate a non-RHCP jammer from the same direction as a GPS signal as if a dual-polarized antenna array does and provide comparable signal-to-jammer-plus-noise ratio (SJNR) performance with a completely aligned single-polarized antenna array and a dual-polarized antenna array.
