Construction and Measurement of a T-DMB/GPS/Mobile Antenna for Vehicular Application (차량에 적용 가능한 T-DMB/GPS/Mobile 안테나의 제작과 측정)

  • This paper presents the design of a novel integrated T-DMB/GPS/Mobile antenna for vehicular application. The T-DMB antenna is designed with a modified meander-type microstrip patch providing linearly a polarized broadside radiation pattern. The GPS antenna is designed with an inserted slot in the patch antenna providing circularly polarized broadside radiation pattern. The Mobile (GSM, AMPS, DCS, PCS, UMTS, etc.) antenna is designed as a modified G-type patch antenna providing multi-band operation. Experimental results indicate that the impedance bandwidth (VSWR 1:2.5) of the proposed T-DMB /GPS/Mobile antenna satisfactorily matches that of the simulation results. The 2D and 3D radiation patterns and gains according to the results of the experiment are also presented and discussed.

Single Feed Compact Wideband Antenna for Wireless Communication Applications

  • Wideband terminal and base station is required to serve not only existing 1st and 2nd generation mobile communication systems but also 3rd generation systems. In this paper, we presents a feasibility study on single feed compact wideband antenna for wireless communication applications including GSM (890-960 MHz), GPS (1575 MHz), DCS (1710-1880 MHz), PCS (1880-1990 MHz), UMTS (1900-2200 MHz), ISM (2400-2480 MHz), IMT2000 and satellite DMB bands. The original antenna was designed for partial discharge detection sensor in high voltage diagnostic system. However, we modified the original prototype to achieve shifted down resonant frequency for wideband wireless communication applications. The experimental result shows good return loss characteristics and radiation patterns except for the total gain at each resonant frequency. The maximum measured gain was 2.45 dBi${\sim}$3.18 dBi at 1710 MHz${\sim}$1880 MHz.

  • A folded monopole antenna is proposed for mobile communication applications. The proposed antenna covers CDMA and GSM at low frequency band, and it has a wide bandwidth (6.85 GHz) at high frequency band to cover GPS, DCS, USPCS, UHfS, WLAN (2.4, 5.2, 5.8 GHz), and the future application of IEEE 802.16e mobile WiMAX.

  • In this paper, multi-band internal antenna which can adjust both resonant frequency and input impedance of antenna as using lumped inductor between shoring plate and ground plane is proposed. The structure of proposed antenna consists of PIFA (Planar Inverted F Antenna) structure and half-wavelength loaded line structure and has two shorting plates and one feeding plate. One shorting plate is shared. The operating frequency bands of designed antenna are GSM, GPS in the PIFA structure and DCS, US-PCS, W-CDMA in half-wave loaded line structure as varying the inductor value in 2.2nH, 3.3nH, and 4.7nH. As varying the inductor value in the shared shorting plate, input impedance of antenna is varied. To minimize the gain variation of antenna as adding lumped element, the inductor value is restricted at maximum of 6.8nH. The maximum gain of proposed antenna is measured as -1.60dBi in the GSM band, -1.16dBi in the GPS band, and 1.41dBi in the DCS/US-PCS/W-CDMA band.

  • In this paper, the quad-band antenna for mobile handsets is proposed and developed. The operating frequency bands include GSM(880 MHz${\~}$960 MHz), GPS(1,575 MHz$\pm$10 MHz), DCS(1,710 MHz${\~}$l,880MHz), and PCS(1,850 MHz${\~}$l,990 MHz). The proposed antenna consists of a feed line, a shorting post, and a radiating element of the feed loop. The multi-band operation is achieved by using the fundamental and higher resonant modes of the radiating element. Based on analysis of the current distribution on the radiator, the resonant frequency of each mode can be adjusted by adding the different sizes of slots on the radiator. The radiator of the feed loop is designed to be symmetrical so that the energy is symmetrically distributed on the radiator, which results in omni-directional radiation pattern. The ground plane under the radiator is removed in order to improve the bandwidth. The measured impedance bandwidths are $10.1\%$ in GSM band(VSWR<2.5), $26.8\%$ in GPS band, and DCS/US-PCS bands(VSWR<2.5), respectively. The maximum gains on the H-plane of the fabricated antenna are measured about -0.37 dBi${\~}$2.55 dBi for all operating frequency bands.

  • Femtocells are cellular access points that connect to a mobile operator's network using residential DSL or cable broadband connections. They have been developed to work with a range of different cellular standards including CDMA, GSM and UMTS. Like legacy base station, the frequency accuracy and phase alignment is necessary for ensuring the quality of service (QoS) for applications such as voice, real-time video, wireless hand-off, and data over a converged access medium at the femtocell. But, the GPS has some problem to be used at the femtocell, because it is difficult to set-up, depends on the satellite condition, and very expensive. So, some techniques are discussed to alternate with the legacy GPS system. NTP, PTP, Synchronous Ethernet use the ethernet to synchronize distributed clocks in packet networks. AGPS support reliable position information than the legacy GPS in poor signal conditions. But, These method also have some problems. So, hybrid timing method like A-GPS+PTP and TV+GPS was developed to make up the weak point of GPS. This paper introduces the each method and compare each other and y propose much better solution for timing synchronization at the Femtocell

Multi-band Folded Monopole Internal Antenna for Mobile Handset Applications (이동통신 단말기용 다중대역 폴디드 모노폴 내장형 안테나)

  • In this paper, a multi-band folded planar monopole internal antenna for mobile handset applications is proposed. The proposed antenna has multi-resonances, which is different from a conventional folded monopole antenna, and it provides a wide bandwidth at high frequency bands. The measured impedance bandwidth (VSWR < 3) is 180 MHz and 1880 MHz in lower and higher frequency bands, respectively. The proposed antenna can effectively cover most wireless communication bands including CDMA, GSM, GPS, DCS, PCS, and W-CDMA, WiBro and S-DMB.

  • XML(eXtensible Markup Language)은 시스템 독립적인 문서 포맷으로 네트워크와 애플리케이션간 교환되어지는 정보를 명세하기 위한 언어이다. 최근 들어 XML은 데이터 교환과 공유에 대한 비즈니스와 산업 표준으로써 그 응용 영역이 점점 더 확장되어 적용되고 있다. 또한, 사용자 측위에 대한 GPS 시스템에 대한 연구는 1996년 10월 미연방 통신위원회(FCC)에서 미국 내 모든 통신업자들에게 내놓은 위치정보서비스를 위한 E-911 권고안을 기준으로 짧은 기간 동안 많은 발전이 이루어졌다. 본 논문은 GSM, CDMA망의 기지국을 기반으로한 사용자 측위정보 및 GPS위성을 기반으로 한 GPS 수신모듈에서 얻어진 사용자 측위정보를 이용하여 좀 더 전문화, 다양화된 서비스를 지원하기 위한 LTML(Location Tracking Markup Language)이라는 XML 언어를 제안한다.

  • This paper presents a design of a multi-band infernal antenna for mobile handsets which can cover the major mobile services such as WiBro/WiMAX mobile internet services and Media-FLO/S-DMB services. Using wideband monopole antenna structure, the proposed antenna obtains the wide bandwidth characteristic at high Sequency band to be applicable for new mobile services. Stacking meandered radiator on the wideband monopole radiator and obtaining the different current path and lenga on these stacked radiators, overall antenna volume is effectively reduced. The measured bandwidths (VSWR<3) of the proposed antenna is 270 MHz and 2032 MHz at low and high band, respectively. This antenna can effectively covers major wireless communication bands including Media-FLO, CDMA, GSM, GPS, DCS, PCS, UMTS, WiBro, WiMAX, and S-DMB.

  • Due to the deployment of various wireless networks originating from CDMA, GSM, and WLAN, it became very convenient to exchange information from one place to another. As compared with the traditional environments for one-way information distribution based on fixed radio frequency bands, the convenient wireless network environments will bring about many changes in positioning technologies based on global navigation satellites. Among the many changes to come, the reconfigurable receiver network is one of the most attractive concepts since it can be tailored to a specific application area among networked robots, formation flying, bridge monitoring, and traffic monitoring. As an initial study to develop a reconfigurable receiver network, this paper deals with the design and implementation of the key elements of the reconfigurable receiver netowork; server, broadcaster, and client. In the designed receiver network, a sever receives and decodes measurements from a reference receiver installed at a known location, a broadcaster processes and transfers the messages from servers to clients and manages connections with servers and clients, a client receives the messages from the broadcaster and performs differential positioning. A real-time experiment result is demonstrated to validate the functionalities of each network element.
