National Geographic Information Institute has established a plan that preoccupies UCPs (Unified Control Points) at 2~3km intervals in urban areas by considering the distance between existing UCPs by satellite images and aerial photographs in 2015. In this study, we discussed the method of selecting the locations of optimal UCPs by simulating GPS reception environment in candidate sites for UCPs using GIS. For this purpose, we selected new candidate sites for installing UCPs using satellite images and aerial photographs, and analyzed the GPS reception environment by calculating the visibility distance from buildings around UCPs using GIS skyline analysis. The number of and the arrangement of visible satellites that are capable of GPS satellite reception from the viewpoint of sky view were showed by GIS skyline analysis. Quality evaluation results of GPS observation data were compared with average PDOP calculated from hourly PDOP and TEQC in two points of Sungkyunkwan University during 8 hours. As a result of GPS reception environment using GIS, if the PDOP increases, the data acquisition rate is lowed, and the multipath error and the cycle slip are increased. Thus, this study verified that the quality of GPS observation data can be secured by constructing three-dimensional spatial information and simulating PDOP when preoccupying multiple UCPs using GIS.
In urban areas it can be difficult to utilize global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) due to signal reflections and blockages. It is thus crucial to detect reflected or blocked signals because they lead to significant degradation of GNSS positioning accuracy. In a previous study, a classifier for global positioning system (GPS) signal reception conditions was developed using three features and the support vector machine (SVM) algorithm. However, this classifier had limitations in its classification performance. Therefore, in this study, we developed an improved machine learning based method of classifying GPS signal reception conditions by including an additional feature with the existing features. Furthermore, we applied various machine learning classification algorithms. As a result, when tested with datasets collected in different environments than the training environment, the classification accuracy improved by nine percentage points compared to the existing method, reaching up to 58%.
This study analyzed positioning accuracy of the multi-differential global navigation satellite system (DGNSS) algorithm that integrated GPS, GLONASS, and BDS. Prior to the analysis, four sites of which satellite observation environment was different were selected, and satellite observation environments for each site were analyzed. The analysis results of the algorithm performance at each of the survey points showed that high positioning performance was obtained by using DGPS only without integration of satellite navigation systems in the open sky environment but the positioning performance of multi-DGNSS became higher as the satellite observation environments degraded. The comparison results of improved positioning performance of the multi-DGNSS at the poor reception environment compared to differential global positioning system (DGPS) positioning results showed that horizontal accuracy was improved by 78% and vertical accuracy was improved by 65% approximately.

With the development of MEMS, small and low-priced sensors integrating IMU and GPS have produced and exploited for diverse field. In this research, we have judged that MEMS-based IMU/GPS sensor is suitable for light-weighted mobile mapping system and carried out experiments to analyze the characteristics of MTi-G, which was developed from XSens company. From a sensor which fixed to dashboard, coordinates results with no post-processing were achieved for test area. On the whole, the results show satisfactory performances but some errors also were discovered from parts of the road due to sensor properties, XKF characteristics and GPS reception environment. We could confirm the potential of light-weighted mobile mapping system. Experiments considering various GPS reception environments and road condition and more detailed level of accuracy analysis will be performed for further research.

This paper explains major considerations for integrated GPS/GLONASS/BDS positioning, and then analyzes integrated GNSS positioning accuracies based on low-cost receivers in open-sky and poor reception environments. In an open-sky environment, horizontal RMSE of the integrated system positioning is about 1.2m. It shows improved result compared with single system positioning, the improvement ratio was 17-55%. In poor reception environments, we sometimes could not do positioning because the number of visible satellites gets below four. In an integrated positioning mode, the number of visible satellites was always higher than four, allowing us to find positions all the time. The horizontal RMSE of the integrated system positioning in poor reception environments is about 6.4m. Compared with single system positioning;the integrated system positioning shows better performance and the improvement ratio was 8-47% for the horizontal directions.

A navigation system is one of the important components of an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV). A GPS receiver collects data signals transmitted by (Earth orbiting) satellites. However, these data signals may contain many errors resulting misinformation and depending on one's position (environment), reception may be impossible. The proposed self-driven algorithm uses three low-cost GPS in order to minimize errors of existing inexpensive single GPS's driving algorithm. By using reliable final data, which is analyzed and combined from each of three GPS's received data signals, gathering a vehicle's steering performance information and its current pin-point position is improved even with error containing signals or from a place where signal gathering is impossible. The purpose of this thesis is to explain navigation system algorithm using multiple GPS and compass sensor and prove the algorithm through experiments.

GNSS signal is vulnerable to jamming signal because of well-known signal structure and weak signal power. For these reasons, the need for analysis of jamming effects and anti-jamming techniques of is increasing. In this paper, a GNSS signal generator is designed which includes a radio wave propagation model for six kind of tactical environments and a body masking model for the reception environment of a vehicle. The radio wave propagation model for downtown, rural, forest, coastline, waste land and snow or ice area is designed using two-ray model. The body masking model is designed the effect which the antenna is affected by the reception environment of a vehicle and radiation pattern from a user configuration. The performance of generated signals from the GNSS signal generator considering reception environment of a vehicle is evaluated by a commercial GPS L1 receiver(NordNav) in normal and jamming environment. Also, the generated GNSS signal is compared to a commercial GPS L1 H/W based RF signal generator(STR4500). The results show that the designed GNSS signal generator in a normal environment compared to the same navigation performance. In jamming environment, it is shown that the body masking effect and GNSS signal acquisition and tracking loss in compliance with the jamming signal are precisely working in the reception environment of a vehicle.

Before GBAS ground systems is installed at the airport, the site survey is needed to determine the suitability of proposed GBAS candidate sites depending on the siting requirements. Therefore, analysis of GPS signal reception environment, one of the site survey steps, is required. In this paper, the number of visible satellites, GPS signal strength, multipath error, radio frequency interference and predicted availability were analyzed using the GPS data of Gimpo International Airport measured by PortaSAT equipments and the analysis results were represented.

In this study, an algorithm that detects a spoofing signal for a GPS L1 signal was proposed, and the performance was verified through RF spoofing signal simulation. The proposed algorithm determines the reception of a spoofing signal by detecting a correlation distortion of GPS L1 C/A code caused by the spoofing signal. To detect the correlation distortion, a detection criterion of a spoofing signal was derived from the relationship among the Early, Prompt, and Late tap correlation values of a receiver correlator; and a detection threshold was calculated from the false alarm probability of spoofing signal detection. In this study, an RF spoofing environment was built using the GSS 8000 simulator (Spirent). For the RF spoofing signal generated from the simulator, the RF spoofing environment was verified using the commercial receiver DL-V3 (Novatel Inc.). To verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, the RF signal was stored as IF band data using a USRP signal collector (NI) so that the data could be processed by a CNU software receiver (software defined radio). For the performance of the proposed algorithm, results were obtained using the correlation value of the software receiver, and the performance was verified through the detection of a spoofing signal and the detection time of a spoofing signal.
Exposure analysis is a critical component of determining the health impact of pollutants. Global positioning systems (GPS) could be useful in developing time-location information for use in exposure analysis. This study compares four low cost GPS receivers with data logging capability (Garmin 60, Garmin Forerunner 201, GeoStats GeoLogger and Skytrx minitracker MT4100) in terms of accuracy, precision, and ease of use. The accuracy of the devices was determined at two known National Geodetic Survey points. The coordinates logged by the devices were compared when the devices were carried while walking and driving. The Garmin 60 showed better accuracy and precision than the GeoLogger when they were placed at the geodetic points. The Forerunner and Skytrx did not record when they were kept stationary. When the subject wore the devices while walking, the location of the devices differed by about 8 m on average between any two device combinations involving the four devices. The distance between the coordinates logged by the devices decreased when the devices were carried with their antennas facing the sky. All the devices showed similar routes when they were used in a car. All the devices except the Forerunner had satisfactory signal reception when they were worn and when they were carried in the car. The GeoLogger is less comfortable for the subject because of specific wearing requirements. This evaluation found that the Garmin 60 and the Skytrx may be useful in personal exposure analysis studies to record time-location data.
