  • Voices demanding a revision of the aviation law on the operating drones are continuously rising high with the increase of their applicability in various industry fields. According to the current regulations, drones are permitted to fly under very strict conditions, which include limited places and the line-of-sight visibility from pilots. Because of the strict regulations, it is almost impossible for drones to be used in many industries such as parcel delivery services. To improve the business value of drones, we have to improve the accuracy of drones' positions and provide the proper protection levels in order to detect and avoid any risks including the collisions with the other drones. SBAS(Satellite Based Augmentation System) can support the aviation requirements with the accuracy and integrity so as to reduce the position errors and to calculate the protection levels of drones. In this paper, we assign the flight heights of drones according to the decision heights as per LAAS(Local Area Augmentation System) landing categories and conduct a simulation to predict the SBAS available time of the day.

  • Method establishment needs for recent shortening the flight path, fuel reduction, reduction of the flight delay time, increase of the route capacity like as relieve congested airspace and solving future demand. However, As the existing conventional navigation systems is impossible to be resolved. Hereupon, SBAS has been developed with using the GNSS. ICAO has recommended that SBAS need to be operated with aircraft operation from 2025, korea is also developing KASS in accordance with the recommendation. In this paper, before the 2022 KASS will be completed, KASS can be expected using for flight test and inspection as analyzing KASS flight test and relative specifications.

  • The importance of GPS was great1y increased for aviation after the completion of the GPS satellite constellation in December of 1993. The Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) is being developed for operational use in the United States and also a similar system, European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS), is also under development in Europe. There are needs to develop Wide Area Differential GPS (WADGPS) covering Korea to complete the GNSS mentioned above. The GNSS then allows international aviation users to fly world-wide with a single avionic system. In case of DGPS, it can cover within 100km and needs many stations for serving the widely-spreaded users. But WADGPS can cover wide area via fewer stations than DGPS. In this paper we propose an Korea version of WADGPS and discuss on algorithms and performances.

  • A Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) is a representative differential GNSS system, which is used for the navigation performance improvement of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) users. SBAS has been developed focusing on the securement of user integrity so that it can be used for the navigation in aviation fields. Accordingly, the development of SBAS has been completed, and it has been actively used in the United States, Europe, and Japan. As the new satellite of Global Positioning System (GPS) recently started to broadcast new civil signals (L5 frequency), the methods for improving user navigation performance in SBAS using this signal have also been studied. In Korea, to keep pace with these circumstances, full-scale SBAS development is expected to start in 2014, and studies on dual-frequency SBAS using L1/L5 frequencies will also be performed. In this study, before the full-scale development of dual-frequency SBAS in Korea, a simulation was performed to predict the performance and analyze the expected effects.

  • To accommodate the increasing air traffic and increase safety and efficiency of aviation operation, ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) recommended the development and implement of a new CNS/ATM system which is based on GNSS technologies and data link communication. The system is composed of Communication, Navigation, Surveillance and Air Traffic Management. ICAO approved the Global Air Navigation Plan for CNS/ATM systems. The world aviation leader countries launched CNS/ATM Research and Development program to enable the Global Plan and support the transition of air traffic infrastructure. In this paper, to establish the direction and measures of domestic technology development, CNS/ATM technology trend is analyzed.

  • A K-SBAS (Korean Satellite Based Augmentation System) is proposed as one of the space infrastructure. The proposed system considers the existed elements to the utmost for the most economical SBAS construction. As reference system the current DGPS (differential global positioning system) network is investigated. Space segment is investigated based on the COMS-1 (Communications, Oceanographic, and Meteorological Satellite-1). While bus system of COMS-1 can be kept to minimum change, the communication payload of needed, crucial parts such as software, man power can be easily secured through the DGPS network operation heritage.

  • Wide Area Differential GNSS(WA-DGNSS) was developed in order to improve the accuracy and integrity performance of GNSS. In this paper, overall structure of Pseudolite-Based Augmentation System(PBAS) and experimental methods which enables the post-processing test with commercial receiver will be described. For generating augmenting message, GPS measurement collected from five NDGPS reference stations were processed by reference station S/W and master station S/W. The accuracy of augmenting message was tested by comparing SP3, IONEX data. In the test, RF signal of user was collected and correction data were generated. After that, RF signal was broadcasted with pseudolite signal. Test was conducted using three commercial receiver and the performance was compared with MSAS and standalone user. From the position output of each receiver, it was shown that improved position was obtained by applying augmenting message.

  • In this study, author analyzed the overview and the convergence time of Fixed solutions (<15cm) of OmniSTAR, one of SBAS(Satellite Based Augmentation System) as WADGPS (Wide Area Differential GPS), which can compensate the drawbacks of the existed GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) that require the expensive receiver and is impossible to position in case of the radio interference in urban sometimes. As a result, the test shows that the less than 15cm 3D standard deviation converges in 39 minutes at Dynamic mode and 28 minutes at Static mode. It is expected that we can apply OmniSTAR to a variety of fields such as LBS(Location Based Service), mobile positioning, and the geo-spatial information industry that does not necessarily guarantee the high position accuracy.
