In this study, an integrated GNSS Simulator called Inha GNSS Simulation System (IGSS) using 3D spatial information was developed and validated. Also positioning availability and accuracy improvement were evaluated under the integrated GNSS environment using IGSS. GPS and GLONASS satellite visibility predictions were compared with real observations, and their frequency of error were 6.4% and 7.5%, respectively. To evaluate positioning availability and accuracy improvement under the integrated GNSS environment, the Daejeon government complex area was selected to be the test site because the area has high-rise buildings and thus is susceptible to signal blockages. The test consists of three parts: the first is when only GPS was used; the second is when both GPS and GLONASS were simulated; and the last is when GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo were used all together. In each case, the number of visible satellites and Dilution Of Precision were calculated and compared.

With the rapid development of spatial infrastructure in US, Europe, Japan, China and India, there is no doubt that the next generation Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) will improve the integrity, accuracy, reliability and availability of the position solution. GNSS is becoming an essential element of personal, commercial and public infrastructure and consequently part of our daily lives. However, the applicability of GPS in supporting a range of location-sensitive applications such as location based services in an urban environment is severely curtailed by the interference of the 3D urban settings. To characterize and gain in-depth understanding of such interferences and to be able to provide location-based optimization alternatives, a high-fidelity 3D urban model of Melbourne CBD built with ArcGIS and large scale high-resolution spatial data sets is used in this study to support a comprehensive simulation of current and future GNSS signal performance, in terms of signal continuity, availability, strength, geometry, positioning accuracy and reliability based on a number of scenarios. The design, structure and major components of the simulator are outlined. Useful time-stamped spatial patterns of the signal performance over the experimental urban area have been revealed which are valuable for supporting location based services applications, such as emergency responses, the optimization of wireless communication infrastructures and vehicle navigation services.
For using Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS) in the civil aviation, it should satisfies the Required Navigation Performances(RNPs) which are defined by International Civil Aviation Organization(ICAO). RNP defines the required accuracy, integrity, availability, continuity of each flight procedure. In order to guarantee user's integrity, user's protection level has to be overestimated. On the other hand, for improving user's availability, user's protection level has to be estimated tightly. Therefore protection level should be estimated as tight as possible while it assuring the user's integrity. This paper describes the current integrity function of Korean WAD GNSS test bed, and predicts the availability performance of Korean WAD GNSS by simulation.

This paper describes the availability of the forthcoming integrated GNSS(Global Navigation Positioning System) positioning that includes GPS(Global Positioning System), Galileo, and QZSS(Quasi-Zenith Satellites System). We built a signal propagation model that identifies direct, multipath, and diffraction signals, using the principles of specular reflection and ray tracing technique. The signal propagation model was combined with 3D GIS(three-dimensional geographic information system) in order to measure the satellite visibility and positioning error factors, such as the number of visible satellites, average elevation of visible satellites, optimized DOP(dilution of position) values, and the portion of multipath-producing satellites. Since Galileo and QZSS will not be fully operational until 2010, we used a simulation in comparing GPS and GNSS positioning for a $1km{\times}1km$ developed area in Shinjuku, Tokyo. To account for local terrain variation. we divided the target area into 40,000 $5m{\times}5m$ grid cells. The number of visible satellites and that of multipath-free satellites will be greatly increased in the integrated GNSS environment while the average elevation of visible satellites will be higher in the GPS positioning. Much decreased PDOP(position dilution of precision) values indicate the appropriate satellite/user geometry of the integrated GNSS; however, in dense urban areas, multipath mitigation will be more important than the satellite/user geometry. Thus, the efforts for applying current technologies of multipath mitigation to the future GNSS environment will be necessary.

After USA removed the Selective Availability(SA), Global Positioning System(GPS) has monopolized tile world market and other countries have been depended on GPS, absolutely So the other countries, Russia, European Community(EC) and Japan, which apprehend to monopolize in technical and strategic parts, are developing the next generation GNSS including GLONASS Galileo and JRANS. And the countries are planning to provide the another GNSS. This research has focused on the next generation GNSS system based on GPS and Galileo system with developing a GNSS simulation software, named as GIMS2005, which generates and analyzes satellite constellation and measurements. Based on the software, a variety of simulation tests have been carried out to recognize limits of GPS-only system and potential benefits of integrated GPS/Galileo positioning In terms of satellite geometry strength and solution accuracy.

Commercial uses of GPS have been growing rapidly with applications for aircraft, ship, and land vehicle navigation as well as for surveying and time keeping. The next generation GPS and Japanese QZS (Quasi Zenith Satellite) will provide three different civil signals. Galileo will also provide several types of civil signals. The availability of the third civil frequency has obvious advantages to instantaneous carrier phase accuracy and ambiguity resolution for centimeter level measurements. This paper discusses the effects of additional new civil signals for the high accuracy positioning in urban areas based on simulation using practical raw data. As for constellation, only GPS and GPS+QZS are considered. For positioning, a short distance baseline is assumed in order to disregard atmosphere effects. In this simulation, mask angle and signal conditions were fixed and ambiguity success rates were compared between different triple frequency combination scenarios. The coefficient of reflection was set randomly from 0.05 to 0.5 and the multipath delay was also set randomly from 5-100 m. Visible satellites and signal strength were determined by raw data collected in Tokyo by car. These simulation results have confirmed that the availability of high accuracy positioning will increase in all scenarios if we use GPS+QZS with triple frequencies.

Ionospheric anomaly is one of the major error sources which deteriorate the GNSS performance. In the equatorial region, effects of the ionospheric plasma bubbles are of great interest because they are pretty common phenomena, especially in the period of the high solar activity. In order to evaluate the GNSS performance under circumstance of the bubbles, an ionospheric scintillation monitor has been developed and installed in Bangkok, Thailand. Furthermore, a model simulating the ionospheric delay and scintillation due to the bubbles has been developed. Based on these developments, the effects of the simulated plasma bubbles are analyzed and their agreement with the real observation is demonstrated. An availability degradation of the GPS ground based augmentation system (GBAS) caused by the bubbles is exampled in details. Finally, an integrated GPS/INS approach based on the Doppler frequency is proposed to remedy the deterioration.

This paper deal with estimating the direction of arrival (DOA) of GNSS signal using two antennae for spoofing detection. A technique for estimating the azimuth angle of a received signal by applying the interferometer method to the GPS carrier signal is proposed. The experiment assumes two antennas placed on the earth's surface and estimates the azimuth angle when only GPS signal are received without spoofing signal. The proposed method confirmed the availability through GPS satellite placement simulation and experiments using a dual antenna GPS receiver. In this case of using dual antenna, an azimuth angle ambiguity of the received signal occurs with respect to the baseline between two antennas. For this reason, the accurate azimuth angle estimation is limits, but it can be used for deception by cross-validating the ambiguity.
In this paper, we propose an efficient satellite selection method for multi-constellation GNSS. The number of visible satellites has increased dramatically recently due to multi-constellation GNSS. By the increased availability, the overall GNSS performance can be improved. Whereas, due to the increase of the number of visible satellites, the computational burden in implementing advanced processing such as integer ambiguity resolution and fault detection can be increased considerably. As widely known, the optimal satellite selection method requires very large computational burden and its real-time implementation is practically impossible. To reduce computational burden, several sub-optimal but efficient satellite selection methods have been proposed recently. However, these methods are prone to the local optimum problem and do not fully utilize the information redundancy between different constellation systems. To solve this problem, the proposed method utilizes the inter-system biases and geometric assignments. As a result, the proposed method can be implemented in real-time, avoids the local optimum problem, and does not exclude any single-satellite constellation. The performance of the proposed method is compared with the optimal method and two popular sub-optimal methods by a simulation and an experiment.
