  • Recently, flood damage is rapidly increasing because of warming of globe, urbanization and industrialization. As a countermeasure to prevent these flood damages, it is quite required to extend the flood control ability by improving the objective rivers in the watershed and building more medium to large scale reserviors. Simultaneously repairing and rehabilitation of facilities through the safety diagnosis for reinforcement of the facilities should be continuously proceeded. Also extensive implementation of drainage improvement, establishment of prevention and refairing system against flood damage and raise of accuracy of weather forecasting should be proceeded.

  • The second decade of the current century has witnessed a sharp rise in the total number of mobile users across the globe. Mobile device ownership rather defines our daily lives and even identities. India has emerged to become one of the largest markets for smartphones. India is an emerging economy with a lot of uniqueness: particularly, it has one of the most tech literate young consumers in the world and that its cultural fabric is extremely collective. This study looks into some issues related to the proliferation of smartphones among the Indian youth.

  • In the summer, the irradiated solar heat gain through the roof has an effect on the thermal environment of the top floor units of apartment houses. This paper investigated the differences of the indoor air temperature, globe temperature and thermal comfort index between the top floor unit and the middle floor unit by measuring them at the sample units on the condition that all the openings of the units are opened. The purpose of this paper is to provide quantitative data about the irradiated solar heat gain during the summertime through the roof of an apartment house and these data to be the source to reevaluate the appropriate roof insulation efficiency. From this study, we obtained three brief results as follows. Indoor air temperature difference between the two sample units shifts a day. Indoor air temperature at the top floor unit is $0{\sim}1.8^{\circ}C$ higher than that of the middle floor unit from 12:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. and $0{\sim}2.8^{\circ}C$ lower from 12:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The evaluation of the indoor thermal comfort index and the globe temperature shows similar results as the indoor air temperature measuring. Results of this experiment verified the actual existence of indoor air temperature difference between the top floor unit and the middle one and this difference comes from the heat storage of the roof.

  • The ripe unfertilized eggs of Acheilognathus signifer were elliptical shape and baggily swollen toward animal pole. The size of fertilized eggs were $2.19{\pm}0.01$ mm in long axis and $1.85{\pm}0.08$ mm in short axis and oil globe were not observed. The zona radiata of A. signifer had the structure of regular fibrilar net and the diameter of outer opening micropyle was about $2.5{\mu}m$ and that of inner opening micropyle was about $1.5\sim2.0{\mu}m$. Development of fertilized eggs in A. signifer was proceeded in inclining position of animal pole and hatched in 49 hours under $20{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. The yolk sac was absolutely absorbed in 21 days after hatching.

  • The purpose of this study is to present the range of defects mentioned in the Product Liability (PL) and to establish an objective basis and grounds for the analysis of accidents expected to happen by analyzing and presenting the external flame pattern and electrical characteristics of an LED streetlight lamp, a new lighting lamp. From the analysis of the cross-section of a cable carbonized by an external flame, it was observed that the wire's strand and insulation material had solidly adhered, and that greater voids were formed at the surface than at the center. Irregular carbide lumps were formed in the globe directly exposed to the flame, and the globe carbonized by the indirect flame showed characteristics that they had melted and flowed downward. It was found that the forward and backward resistances of the normal LED were approximately 1.74 [$M{\Omega}$] and 140 [$M{\Omega}$], respectively. The lamp burnt by the strong flame exhibited infinite forward and backward resistances and the LED did not emit light. The carbonized LED lamp was gray and exhibited fine delaminations. According to the Product Liability, a product defect signifies a simple product defect. Most of the defects were caused by the lack of stability, and the defect of the product itself occurred during the design and manufacture. The defects in warnings and markings include an insufficiency of handling manuals and warnings, expressive warranty violations, defective markings, etc. In order to prevent an accident resulting from a product, it is necessary to prepare safety warnings and documentation, establish clear-cut lines of liabilities, and subscribe insurances. However, it could be seen that important factors against the Product Liability were product improvement, response to compensation requests and law suits, credit restoration, etc.

  • Background: This study was conducted to investigate the heat stress and semen quality among male workers in a steel industry in Iran and investigate the relationship between heat stress indices and semen parameters. Methods: The study was conducted on workers exposed (n = 30) and unexposed (n = 14) to heat in a steel industry. After obtaining a brief biography of the selected employees, scrotal temperature, oral temperature, and environmental parameters were measured, and their semen samples were analyzed according to the procedure recommended by the World Health Organization. The heat stress indices, including wet-bulb globe temperature (WBGT) and predicted heat strain (PHS), in their workplace were calculated according to environmental parameters (ISO 7243:1989 and 7933:2004, respectively). Results: Time-weighted averages of WBGT and PHS ($35.76^{\circ}C$ and 491.56 $w/m^2{\frac{w}{m^2}}$, respectively) for the exposed group were higher than threshold limit values. The mean difference of environmental, physiological, and semen parameters (exception: pH of semen), and also WBGT and PHS indices were statistically significant (p < 0.05) between the two groups. Mean semen parameters were in the normozoospermic range. WBGT and PHS indices showed significantly "negative" correlation with physiological parameters (scrotal and oral temperature) and most semen parameters (semen volume, sperm morphology, sperm motility, sperm count; p < 0.05); moreover, the correlation of WBGT with these parameters was stronger than PHS. Conclusion: Semen parameters of the studied workers exposed to heat were in the borderline level of normozoospermic range, and their semen parameters were significantly lower than controls. For better assessment of occupational environment concerning physiological and semen parameters in steel industries, WBGT can be a more useful index.
