  • Most of our GIS implementation activities have been focussed on the management of urban information in local municipalities. Management of urban facilities has been the major issue of concern and has little role in providing the decision maker with alternatives from which one can analyse and choose the optimum solution. For this reason, the spatial decision support system is in need. Business analysis software is effectively used for site analysis of new stores, customer prospecting and other issues of decision making for business purposes, The same geoprocessing module of business analysis software would be useful if put to use for the management of disaster management especially for storm surge management. Application of the business analysis model for disaster management has been reviewed. Specially in case of storm surge, where quick response is crucial, the spatial decision support system will be most effective.

지구정보시스템을 이용한 충주호 북부 지역의 사면 안정 평가 (Analysis of Slope Stability Using GIS in the Northern Area of Chungju Lake)

  • As a part of natural hazard assessment, regional slope stability analysis was conducted using Geoscientific Information System (GIS) in the northern area of Chungju Lake. Selected factors which affect the slope stability in the study area were lithology, soil, density of lineament, groundwater level, dip of slope, aspect of slope, and geological engineering properties. Geological structural domains were determined by collected data of joint orientation from about 200 sites in order to produce a slope instability map. Potential type of failure and its direction could be expected through the domains. And a slope instability map was produced, comparing the representative orientations of the domains with the orientations of the slopes which were made through TIN module in ARC/INFO. Under the consideration of environmental geological characteristics of the study area, rating and weighting of each factor of slope stability analysis were decided and spatial analysis of regional slope stability was couducted through overlaying technique of GIS. The result of areal distribution of slope stability showed that the most unstable area was the area between Mt. Pudae and Mt. Jubong, and the northern area of the railway station, Samtan.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop Water Quality Management System(WQMS), which performs calculating pollutant discharge and forecasting water quality with water pollution model. Operational water quality management requires not only controlling pollutants but acquiring and managing exact information. A GIS software, ArcView was used to enter or edit geographic data and attribute data, and MapObject was used to customize the user interface. PCI, a remote sensing software, was used for deriving land cover classification from 20 m resolution SPOT data by image processing. WQMS has two subsystems, Database Subsystem and Modelling subsystem. Database subsystem consisted of watershed data from digital map, remote sensing data, government reports, census data and so on. Modelling subsystem consisted of NSPLM(NonStorm Pollutant Load Model)-SPLM(Storm Pollutant Load Model). It calculates the amount of pollutant and predicts water quality. This two subsystem was connected through graphic display module. This system has been calibrated and verified by applying to Mokhyun stream watershed.

GML Map Visualization on Mobile Devices

  • GIS can only be applied to certain areas by storing format. It is subordinate to a system when displaying geographic information data. It is therefore inevitable for GIS to use GML that supports efficient usage of various geographic information data and interoperability for integration and sharing. The paper constructs VisualGML that translates currently-used geographic information such as DXF (Drawing Exchange Format), DWG (DraWinG), or SHP (Shapefile) into GML format for visualization. VisualGML constructs an integrated map pre-process module, which filters geographic information data according to its tag and properties, to provide the flexibility of a mobile device. VisualGML also provides two major GIS services for the user and administrator. It can enable visualizing location search. This is applied with a 3-Layer POI structure for the user. It has trace monitoring visualization through moving information of mobile devices for the administrator.

  • 해수유통모델 결과를 3차원적으로 가시화하기 위한 그래픽 유저 인터페이스를 지리정보시스템 (GIS) 기술을 활용하여 구축하였다. 연안역 관리에서 GIS기법은 산재되어 있는 방대한 자료들을 저장하고 이를 3 차원으로 가사화하는 기능을 제공하며 해석적, 통계적, 모델링 도구로써 주어진 상황에 적합한 데이터 변환이 가능하도록 해준다. 해수유동모델은 개방경제에서 조석, 바람, 수온, 염분, 장물 유업 및 태양복사 등 과 같은 모델입력값을 부여함으로써 구동되며 대상해역은 진해만으로 하였다. 본 연구에서는 국산 GIS 소프트웨어인 GeoMania (v2.5)를 사용하여 진해만을 대상으로 시뮬레이션된 해수유통모델 결과의 3차원 가시화 모듈을 구축하였다.

  • 본 연구는 MODIS 위성영상을 이용한 산불탐지 성과물을 인터넷 서비스를 통해 지도로 보여줄 수 있는 모니터링 Web GIS시스템을 설계하고 시험/구축하는 것을 목표로 한다. 이를 위하여 위성영상을 이용한 국외 주요 산불 모니터링 시스템을 조사, 분석하여 인터페이스 및 제공 서비스를 분석하고 보다 효율적인 시스템을 설계, 구축하고자 하였다. 구체적으로 신논리적 DFD를 이용하여 시스템의 프로세스 모델링을 수행하였으며, ERSI사의 ArcIMS 4.0과 Microsoft사의 Web 서버인 IIS 5.1을 이용하여 Web GIS 시스템을 구축하였다. 자료의 입력 및 변환의 측면에서는 국내외 산불탐지 알고리즘을 적용한 래스터 형태의 영상 성과물을 Web GIS에 접목시키기 위해 산불탐지 이진영상을 벡터 형태의 데이터로 변환시키는 모듈을 자체 개발하여 적용하였다.

Development and Application of SATEEC L Module for Slope Length Adjustment Based on Topography Change

  • Severe sediment-laden problem has been the hot issue in Korea. It was assumed that agricultural activities and landslides were the primary causes of these problems in watersheds. The USLE-based systems have been widely used in soil erosion studies. However the GIS-based USLE modeling system has limitation in USLE L factors. In this study, the SATEEC L module was developed to reflect the slope length segmentations in the fields. The SATEEC L module was applied to the study watershed to analyze the effects of using the SATEEC L module on estimated sediment. As shown in the comparisons between SATEEC estimated sediment with SWAT values, the SATEEC GA-SDR module derives the SDR with reasonably acceptable accuracies. However, it is worthy to note that the soil erosion using the SATEEC L module for the study watershed was lower than that without using the SATEEC L module by 25%, although the SATEEC estimated sediment values with and without using L module match the SWAT sediment values with similar accuracies. This is because the SATEEC GA-SDR module estimates lower SDR in case of greater soil erosion estimation without the L module and greater SDR in case of lower soil erosion estimation with the L module. This indicates that the SATEEC input parameters, especially L factor, need to be prepared with care for accurate estimation of SDR at a watershed scale and for accurate evaluation of BMPs in the watershed.

  • Pine Wilt Disease (Bursaphelenchus Xylophilus) has been attacked since 1988, then it becomes very serious problem of the all over the country. Government has been invested a lot of money to prevent but it is hard to survey the damaged area and ineffectively control the process of prevention. Therefore, this study is focused on development of Pine Wilt Disease (Bursaphelenchus Xylophilus) Prevention System using GIS and GPS through constructiong database of digital map, satellite imagery and attribute data and development component for desktop PC, internet and mobile system to realtime data transmission between project manager and field worker. Especially, we developed the mobile system that can transmit field conditions in realtime using GPS, GIS and CCD camera, the telecommunication control server that transmit received field condition data to web connecting module and system manager, the web system for end user to notify prevention details, the control system lot manager to recognize filed conditions and to control field workers and the wireless telecommunication module to connect in realtime between field and control center.

A UIS-based System Development to Express the Damage History Information of Natural Disasters

  • The damage of natural disasters has occurred on huge scale more frequently than before. The damage caused by the disasters are summarized and are analyzed, and are managed as a very general type of documentation, not showing the position of previous damage records and related information such as weather, facilities of CCTV, hospitals, and gas station on the maps. Therefore, it needs to provide map-based searching systems considering damaged area as well as search key-words. This paper focuses on the development of a search system based on the map to manage previous disaster records and related information each disaster using spatial databases. This system consists of three modules, which are databases to store disaster data, the SQL procedure-based search module to extract needed information from the constructed databases, and the map module to express the search results on the map. This paper will contribute to provide framework of a system development for managing the disaster information according to each year and disaster based on the maps and to be utilized as the basic framework in developing damage prediction and prevention systems for disasters in future.
