This paper reviews the topic of GIS, the academic setting of GIS, GIS model curricula and the possibility GIS education in Korea. The topics which might be included in a science of geographic information consist of data collection and measurement, data capture, spatial statistics, data modeling and theories of spatial data, data structures, algorithms and processes, display, analytical tools, institutional, managerial and ethical issues. The problems in teaching a course on GIS in higher education are reviewed. Because of their technological, integrative, and rapidly changing nature, GIS pose major challenges to their education system which it is ill equipped to meet. In higher education a number of initiatives have been taken to provide education about and training with, GIS. The possible GIS curricula are suggested. These curricula are divided into 3 major sections, relating GIS context, technical issues and application issues. The prospects of GIS appears lo depend largely upon the future cooperation of academia, government, and industry

Because the complexity in the development phase of geographic information system, its hard to change its operation or user interface after the development. So we should develop most part of the applied GIS even though previous GIS is almost exist. In other words, reusing the previous system is not easy. Therefore, its required to research reusable GIS for easy construction of applied GIS. This thesis describes design and implementation of web GIS framework which makes applied web GIS development more easy. Framework is software library composed of reusable units such like classes and objects. Proposed web GIS framework Provides basic web GIS functionalities and execution design to web GIS developers. They could extend the framework to build applied web GIS with applied operation and user interface. The development of applied web GIS could be archived by various tools used for general web application development.

Nowdays the need of modeling a real world using computers leads to increase the importance of GIS. Moreover, the wide spread of the Internet service has brought about Web GIS Development. Especially, the tuning of Web GIS system has a crucial role in improving the performance of high resolution image Web GIS system. Thus, this study provides a variety of ways to improve the performance of high resolution image Web GIS system. We have tuned IBM AIX operation system, Oracle, ArcSDE in the database level and Tomcat, ArcIMS in the application level. What is more, we propose ways of coding which can have a positive impact on performance. As a result, the proposed methods guarantee high resolution image Web GIS system to improve performance.

Structure safety inspection is executing periodically to apply with maintenance data of the structure. Because of the location of structure is appearing by measuring point and picture in the subway. It is difficult to track the accurate location of the inspected structure. Purpose of this paper is computerizing location and attribute of construction and searching efficiency by GIS.

GIS(Geographic Information System) tool has been applied to determine a spatial difference of weed population density in paddy field and it has introduced to rice yield difference among counties as well as to rice blast in Korea. There was highly difference between sampling sites in terms of spatial analysis which may imply to be able to apply this tool for the precesion agriculture in the 21 century.

In this study a framework for cost effective visualization application is presented. Visualizations of a complex street rehabilitation and a highway interchange project are performed. The visualized products were presented to political and community groups, which significantly expedited the consensus building and project approval process.

Three dimensional database of building use in Central Obihiro City was created and displayed using three dimensional graphics and quicktime movies. Then intra structure of Central Obihiro City was analyzed based on this database using GIS and the results were also displayed using three dimensional graphics and quicklime movies.

최근의 막대한 인적ㆍ재산적 피해를 초래하고 있는 다양한 자연재해로부터 위험정보의 신속한 취득과 분석을 통해 재해 예방에서 복구에 이르기까지 재난관리를 효과적으로 수행할 수 있는 시스템구축이 요구되고 있다 본 연구에서는 홍수 방재분야에서 보다 현실에 가까운 현황분석을 통한 적극적인 재해 상황 대처와 체계적인 방재관리를 수행하기 위해 수리수문학적 자료와 수치지도, DEM, 고해상 위성영상을 이용하여 데이터베이스를 구축하고 3D GIS를 활용하여 홍수재해를 효과적으로 관리할 수 있는 정보시스템 구축에 대한 방안을 제시하였다.

Urban residential area, one of the main subjects of urban and architectural studies, can be analyzed accurately and rapidly with CIS. (Geographic Information System) And the applications of GIS in urban studies are too macro to be explained in architectural terms and the ones in architectural studies are not so much active rather be used as a secondary means. So the studies in urban-architectural scale are very useful in many ways. This study explores urban-architectural possibilities of analytic capabilities of GIS through the analysis of spatial characteristics of residential area in terms of land price according to parcel attributes. It is found, firstly, that the parcel attributes have relations with land price and its distribution patterns. Secondly, it is verified that the visualization capability of GIS can be a very useful method of analysis through user-interface effects in urban-architectural scaled analysis.
