A Study on Present Condition and Policy Direction of GIS Education (GIS 전문인력 양성실태 및 정책방향 연구)

  • Although GIS technology has been developed rapidly, the education system for GIS technology and its utilization has not been well facilitated in our society. Consequently, the economic value in GIS application system is not estimated properly in the public sector. On the other hand, industries currently suffer lack of technocrats or researchers to develop GIS. In addition, the demand for GIS education on its concept and know-how has increased drastically as GIS analytic technology has come to be applied to more varified fields. Under these circumstances, this study researched and analyzed the current state of GIS education in the public, private and academic sectors in Korea. Furthermore, it recommended improving the educational environment for GIS experts training based on the results of the questionnaire used in the survey. Most of all, the national investment should be conducted systematically in order to improve quality of education in the public, private and academic sectors.

  • Korea's GIS market has been proliferating since the 1990s, but still its scale and the structure require overall rearrangements. Recently as the needs and initiatives from central and local governments go stronger to drive 'u-City(ubiquitous City)' developments, there are much more demand of spatial information from sectors like city management, construction, environment and so on. Through the merge between GIS and the advanced Information and Telecommunication Technology, the introduction of new Ubiquitous IT is swiftly changing GIS market environments, so the GIS industry is to be prepared for this trend. The pioneering developments of Ubiquitous-related GIS technologies are expected to highly boost spatial data and related industries, and the pre-occupancy of those technologies in the world would enable the expansion of overseas export market. In the context of these epoch-making chances, by looking into the actual status of GIS industry, this study is to investigate the actual accomplishments to foster the GIS industry through Korea's National GIS Master Plan. Thereby, impending issues will be discussed to provide useful problem-solving suggestions.

A Study on 4D GIS Technology Trends and Development Strategies (4D GIS 기술동향 및 개발전략 연구)

  • The horizon of using GIS technologies can be expanded to analyzing spatial changes by time in reality. Traditional GIS technologies usually use maps for a snapshot aspect of spatial information. Limitations of the present GIS technologies in terms of dealing with spatial changes require more solutions for collecting, processing and analyzing spatial data with time. Traditional GIS technologies include Temporal GIS, Real-time GIS and Virtual GIS respectively but those are not capable enough to represent spatial change in an overall perspective. By reflecting dynamic changes the current GIS technologies can be more useful and valuable than before. This study assumes that '4D GIS', a composite of temporal, realtime and virtual GIS technology, will open a new horizon for the future sophisticated GIS applications. By identifying a technology application model for 4D GIS the new concept of 4D GIS can be clarified. The model is established by combining dynamic spatial information types and applicable 4D GIS technologies, which are identified from the most current 4D application and research efforts. The technology application model for 4D GIS can be expected to contribute to efficient in planning for 4D GIS technology development in the future.he future.

  • 최근 정보통신기술의 발달로 인해 다양한 종류의 컴퓨터가 사람, 사물, 환경 속으로 스며들고, 이들이 서로 네트워크로 연결되어 인간의 삶을 도와주는 유비쿼터스 환경이 급속히 진전되고 있다. 이러한 유비쿼터스 환경은 모두 국토 공간을 근간으로 구현되고 있으며, 국토에 대한 공간 및 위치 정보를 제공하는 u-GIS 공간정보 기술은 미래 유비쿼터스 환경의 핵심 기반 기술로 대두되고 있다. 본 고에서는 u-GIS 공간정보 기술을 구성하는 핵심 기술인 GeoSensor와 GIS 데이터 처리 기술, u-GIS 통합정보 처리기술과 모바일 GeoSensing 기술을 중심으로 최신 동향 및 이슈들을 소개하고, 향후연구 개발 방향을 제시해 보고자 한다.

  • GIS is considered as a big industry or business in the field of applied sciences. Recently GIS market in Korea is growing rapidly for LBS, Telematics, Web-geographic information services. This paper attempts to focus on the interrelationship between GIS and geography, and the question of how geography emerged out of intellectual trends within GIS to examine possible contribution of geographers in GIS fields. The application of GIS appears to be largely technical in nature. It is important for the GIS operator and the consumer of GIS products to be aware of the geographical concepts that underpin GIS operations. Also it is seen that many departments of geography in Korea have attempted to actively adopt GIS into their education program, with aim to improve the status. GIS has promoted a shift towards applied geography from academic geography. GIS researchers and educators in geography are concerned not with technology, but with the basic concepts and the issues relating to its use, in comparison with other academic fields. It is the responsibility of geography community to make sure that our students receive a geographical education that includes problem-solving, critical thinking and technical capabilities. It is concluded that promoting GIS technology in geography curriculum is essential for the further expansion of geography within GIS and also for the survival of geography.

Design and Implegmentation of an Enterprise Server for Component-based Geographic Information Systems (컴포넌트 기반 지리 정보 시스템을 위한 엔터프라이즈 서버의 설계 및 구현)

  • Recently, the new software paradigm in information technology (IT) is the component-based development (CBD) technology that has brought as a result of the distributed computing environment (DCE). The CBD has reduced a program developing time and has been designed to make a distributed computing environment easier in the Internet and Intranet environments. These changes of software technology have influence on the geographic information system (GIS) and the CBD technology is highly needed as a point of view of the technique and policy of the geographic information system. In this paper, we designed and implemented an Enterprise Server for the efficient development and management of GIS components. Especially, the Enterprise Server was developed with the Enterprise JavaBeans Specification 1.1 that had been proposed as an industry standard by the Sun Microsystems. The Enterprise Server can allows users to manage the Unified Modeling Language (UML) and Design Patterns for the development of GIS components, develop a GIS component container which obeyed the Open Geodata Interoperability Specification (OpenGlS), manage spatial metadata through a spatial XML (eXtensible Markup Language) engine, and implement a TESTBED server for testing and verification of developed GIS components.

  • In this paper, we implement a spatial data management system which is based on GIS technology. GIS technology is tightly related with spatial information and will be important method for future information-oriented society. The implemented system collects and manages spatial data. In the implementation, we use PostgreSQL DBMS. We also implement magnification, reduction, movement and search functions in the system.

  • 유비쿼터스 기술은 기를 비즈니스 모델의 패러다임을 공급자 중심에서 수요자 중심으로, 비용 절감에서 가치창출로 변화시키고 있으며, 기업의 비즈니스 전략 및 수행방식을 혁신적으로 변화시키고 있다. 이러할 새로운 가치를 창출하는 유비쿼터스 기반 GIS 서비스에 대한 관심이 높아짐에 따라 그 중요성 또한 증대되고 있다. 하지만 이러한 상황에도 불구하고 유비쿼터스 기반 GIS 서비스와 관련된 연구는 기술과 표준화 등에 관련된 연구가 중심을 이루고 있어, 다양하게 발생하게 될 여러 서비스를 검증하고 보완하기에는 한계를 갖는다. 새로운 유비쿼터스 GIS 서비스는 더 많은 산업을 등장하게 할 것이고 가치창조의 기회를 줄 것이다. 따라서 새로운 유비쿼터스 기반의 GIS 서비스를 이해하고, 분석하기 위해서 기존과 다른 새로운 분석체계가 필요하다. 그래서 유비쿼터스 기반의 GIS 서비스의 중심인 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅과 유비쿼터스 네트워킹 기술을 통해 활용되는 서비스를 중심으로 분석체계를 제시하도록 한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 유비쿼터스 기반 GIS 서비스를 분석하기 위해 유비쿼터스 비즈니스 분석기준들 참조하며 서비스 제공 기술, 제공대상, 제공형태를 제시한다.

  • GIS 시스템 구축사업이 진행됨에 따라 편리성을 위한 연구와 함께, 최근에는 전산망 및 인터넷의 보안문제가 대두됨에 따라, GIS 시스템에서도 보안에 대한 관심을 갖게 되었다. 크게 GIS 시스템에서의 보안과 관련된 문제는 지금까지 전문가들을 위한 정보유통에서 최근 일반인들에 대한 정보유통으로 발생되는 유통정보에 대한 보안문제와 GIS 유통노드, 지리공간 데이터 서버에 대한 보안문제로 구별할 수 있다. 유통상의 정보에 대한 보안문제는 전송되는 유통정보에 대한 도청을 방지하기 위한 암호화 기술이 요구되며, 또한 전송도중 불법사용자에 의한 변조 혹은 삭제 등의 위협으로부터 유통정보에 대한 무결성을 입증하기 위한 인증기술이 요구된다. 이와 같이 암호 및 인증기술과 함께, 인터넷과 전산망의 급속한 보급에 따른 GIS 유통노드, 지리공간 데이터 서버에 대한 불법적인 접속 및 무단 변조에 대한 전산망 접속제어 기술도 요구된다. 결과적으로 GIS 시스템이 정상적으로 운용되기 위해서는 이러한 제반 문제 해결을 위한 방안이 제시되어야 하며, 이는 각종 범죄를 방지하고 건전한 정보화 사회를 구축하기 위한 선결과제이다 따라서 본 고에서는 이러한 제반문제 해결을 위한 방안을 제시한다.
