  • The requirements of reliability verification for new products and technology are increasing more and more in accordance with the trend of climate change prevention and GHG reduction technology, functional skills. SCA(Swirl Control Actuator) is the important part of a car intake manifold system. This device generates swirl that is mixing the fuel and air into the engine combustion chamber. This is to improve output for engine and reduce the emission for exhaust. In this article reliability assessment criteria for swirl control actuator for automobiles are established in terms of basic HALT and life time test.

  • Microgrid is a small-scale power system composed of distributed generators, energy storage system and loads, and can operate in the grid-connected mode and the islanded mode. This paper presents optimal design procedures for remote microgrid. The design program is based on the economic evaluations including the feasibility study module, optimal combination and allocation of DER, power network design and the reduction of the GHG emmission. This program which is suggested in this paper shows good performance as a tool of remote microgrid design.

미세조류 유래 바이오연료 생산 기술에 관한 고찰 (A Review of Biofuels Production Technologies from Microalgae)

  • Biofuels produced from biomass can be substituted for petroleum fuels due to GHG reduction, sustainability and environmental friendly. The process technologies that convert biomass into biofuels are varied and depend on the feedstocks. Microalgae are considered to be one of the most promising alternative source to the conventional feedstocks for biofuel. Microalgae can be converted to biodiesel, bioethanol, biogas and biojet fuel via thermolchemical and biochemical production technologies. This reviews discusses recent advance in understanding the effects of the characteristics of various processes on the production of biofuels using microalgae. The performances of microalgae based biofuel are compared.

  • After the Kyoto Protocol has been ratitied in Feb. 16 2005, the developed countries which is involved in Annex-1 have tried to mitigate GHG to the reduction objective. To accomplish this objective, EU developed EU-ETS, CDM project, and so on. Korea has faced pressure to be a member of Annex-1, because Korea and Mexico are only non-Annex-1 countries in the OECD nations. This study is intended to examine unfolding transition on negotiations of Conference of Parties(COP), the Kyoto Mechanism referred as a cost-effective tool to meet a targeted level of greenhouse gas decrease, and trends in responses of developed countries to the Kyoto Protocol, and finally suggests legal and politic counterplans responding to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change(hereafter, UNFCCC).

ENERGY SAVING EFFECT OF INTELLIGENT EXCAVATING SYSTEM

  • Global warming and climate change is now an important issue in every industry. Construction is not an exception. Greenhouse Gases (GHG) are emitted by construction activities such as fuel usage in construction equipment and so on. In light of this, Intelligent Excavating System (IES), which is a robotic excavator with site modeling capability, is developed by a research consortium formed in Korea to improve productivity, quality, and safety of the traditional earthwork. This paper presents that energy saving effect of IES in comparison to traditional method. Through this review, we propose a research strategy to achieve carbon reduction goals in construction industry.

과수의 탄소발자국 표지를 위한 LCA 동향 및 해석: 경남지역 참다래를 중심으로 (Trends and Interpretation of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for Carbon Footprinting of Fruit Products: Focused on Kiwifruits in Gyeongnam Region)

  • 국내외 탄소발자국 연구 동향을 분석하였으며 뉴질랜드 참다래의 전과정 평가 방법의 체계를 해석하였고, 경남지역 참다래를 중심으로 과수의 탄소발자국표지 적용에 대하여 제언하였다. 제품의 탄소발자국은 일반적으로 ISO14040 시리즈, PAS 2050, GHG Protocol 등과 같은 국제표준에 따라서 평가된다. 국내 탄소발자국 표지는 한국환경산업기술원이 환경부의 위탁하에 한국 표준을 마련하고 "기후변화대응", "저탄소상품"이란 문구가 표시된 탄소성적표지를 운영하고 있지만 현재까지 농산물은 인증대상에서 제외되어 있다. 반면 영국, 스웨덴, 덴마크, 뉴질랜드 등은 농산물의 전 과정 평가를 이미 수행하고 있다. 뉴질랜드 참다래의 전과정 평가는 ISO 표준 방법들을 준용하고 ISO 표준에서 분명한 기준이 없는 경우에는 PAS 2050 표준을 준용한다. 시스템 경계는 뉴질랜드 참다래의 총 온실가스 배출량에 대한 각 단계에서의 영향을 이해하기 위해서 과원 생산에서 소비까지의 모든 전과정 단계들을 포함하였다. 전과정 평가 결과에서 총 온실가스 배출량에 대한 각 단계의 영향은 과원 생산 17%, 포장(냉장) 12%, 뉴질랜드 항구 선적 1%, 선박운송 41%, 영국 Zeebrugge에서의 재포장 3%, 대형유통점 6%, 소비 및 쓰레기처리 21%로 나타났다. 선박운송과 같은 장거리 운송은 무역에서 장애물이 될 수 있으며, 이것을 극복하기 위해서는 과원과 냉장에서 온실가스의 감축이 필요하다. 국내 산업현황 분석에 따르면 최근 참다래 수입량은 매우 빠르게 증가하고 있음에도 불구하고 참다래 재배면적과 생산량은 감소하고 있으며, 수출량도 감소하고 있다. 그 이유는 수입 농산물들에 의해서 경제적 이익이 감소하였기 때문인데, 탄소발자국 표지는 참다래뿐만 아니라 국내 과수산업의 새로운 활력을 가져올 수 있다. 과수의 국제 표준에 의한 탄소발자국 도입은 가능한 한 조속히 수행되어야 할 것이다. 본 논문에서 제시된 뉴질랜드 참다래의 전과정 평가 방법 체계는 이를 위해서 유용하게 활용될 수 있다.

Methods to Reduce Greenhouse Gas for University Buildings to Make a Low-Carbon Green Campus - With Case Study on the 'E' University -

  • University buildings are energy-guzzling facility that consume more than 10,000TOE within a campus annually. Even the consumption is on an upswing trend. Behind such high consumption are there cheap power rates for education facility, lack of high-efficiency equipment and ever-increasing use of various information equipment. Being keenly aware that greenhouse gas emission increases due to such rise of energy consumption, the present study carried out a case study. In the case study, the study chose the buildings of E university from top 10 universities that consume energy most in Seoul and examined the current status of their energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission. And then it set the reduction target of greenhouse gas by year. Putting aside a middle and long-termed strategy for later endeavor, it first established the 1st year's implementation plan (2014) for energy saving and greenhouse gas reduction with limited budget and according to greenhouse gas reduction target. The plan is specified as follows. Targets for energy saving are mainly divided into two sectors: machine equipment and electric equipment. 7 ideas were proposed. Three ideas to improve machine equipment are to replace with high-efficiency boilers and chillers and to adjust the position of the cooling tower. By doing so, it was estimated that energy could be saved by 176.34TOE in total and greenhouse gas could be reduced by 370.771t$CO_2$-eq. Four ideas to improve electric equipment include the replacement with LED lights, LED emergency lights and high-efficiency motors and the installation of motion sensors. It was calculated that such replacement could conserve 1,076.08TOE (electric energy) and reduce 2,181.420t$CO_2$-eq (greenhouse gas).

LEAP 모형을 이용한 도로교통부문의 온실가스 감축잠재량 분석 - 저탄소차협력금제도, 연비강화, 운전행태개선을 중심으로 - (Analysis of GHG Reduction Potential on Road Transportation Sector using the LEAP Model - Low Carbon Car Collaboration Fund, Fuel Efficiency, Improving Driving Behavior -)

  • This study the efficiency of greenhouse gas reduction of 'low carbon car collaboration fund' and its alternative 'control of average fuel efficiency and greenhouse gas', and 'improving driving behavior' were analyzed by using LEAP, long term energy analysis model. Total 4 scenarios were set, baseline scenario, without energy-saving activity, 'low carbon car collaboration fund' scenario, 'fuel efficiency improving scenario', and 'improving driving behavior' scenario. The contents of analysis were forecast of energy demand by scenario and application as well as reduction of greenhouse gas emission volume, and the period taken for analysis was every 1 year during 2015~2030. Baseline scenario, greenhouse gas emission volume in 2015 would be 7,935,697 M/T and 13,081,986 M/T in 2030, increased 64.8%. The analysis result was average annual increase rate of 3.4%. The expected average annual increase rate of other scenarios was, 'low carbon car collaboration fund' scenario 1.7%, 'fuel efficiency improving' scenario 3.0%. and 'improving driving behavior' scenario 3.4%. and these were each 1.7%, 0.3%. 0.3% reduce from baseline scenario. The largest reduction was 'low carbon car collaboration fund' scenario, and there after were 'fuel efficiency improving scenario', and 'improving driving behavior' scenario.

이산화탄소 배출량의 수렴성 검정 : 다이나믹 패널 분석과 패널 단위근 검정을 이용하여 (Testing for Convergence in Carbon Dioxide Emissions : Using a Dynamic Panel Analysis and Panel Unit Root Test)

  • 본 연구는 1971년부터 2002년까지 의무감축국과 비의무감축국의 이산화탄소 배출량에 대한 ${\beta}$-수렴성을 검정하였다. 이를 위해서 Barro and Sala-i-Martin (1995)의 경제성장 수렴성 이론을 확장하였고 기존의 정태적 패널 방법이 아닌 종속변수의 시차변수가 독립변수로 포함되는 동적패널분석 (dynamic panel analysis)과 패널 단위근 검정 (panel unit root test)을 시행하였다. 패널 단위근 검정의 경우, Levin et al. (2002) 와 Im et al. (2003) 두 가지 방법을 적용하였다. 연구 결과 의무감축국은 Levin et al. 방법으로 검정한 결과 단위근 존재가 기각되어 수렴성을 확인할 수 있었고 비의무감축국의 경우 Levin et al. 방법과 Im et al. 방법 모두에서 단위근 존재를 기각하지 못하여 수렴성이 존재하지 않음을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 의무감축국가와 비의무감축국가의 ${\beta}$-수렴성 검정 결과 두 집단 모두 수렴성이 존재하지만 중국을 제외한 비의무감축국가의 경우 수렴성이 존재하지 않았다. 이는 중국의 기본 배출량이다 국가들보다 월등히 높기 때문에 전체 검정의 편의가 발생했을 것으로 생각되어 중국을 제외한 집단을 재검정한 결과 예상대로 수렴성이 존재하지 않는 것으로 나타났다.

위성영상 시공간 융합과 CASA 모형을 활용한 산지 개발사업의 식생 순일차생산량에 대한 영향 평가 (Impact Assessment of Forest Development on Net Primary Production using Satellite Image Spatial-temporal Fusion and CASA-Model)

  • As the "Guidelines for GHG Environmental Assessment" was revised, it pointed out that the developers should evaluate GHG sequestration and storage of the developing site. However, the current guidelines only taking into account the quantitative reduction lost within the development site, and did not consider the qualitative decrease in the carbon sequestration capacity of forest edge produced by developments. In order to assess the quantitative and qualitative effects of vegetation carbon uptake, the CASA-NPP model and satellite image spatial-temporal fusion were used to estimate the annual net primary production in 2005 and 2015. The development projects between 2006 and 2014 were examined for evaluate quantitative changes in development site and qualitative changes in surroundings by development types. The RMSE value of the satellite image fusion results is less than 0.1 and approaches 0, and the correlation coefficient is more than 0.6, which shows relatively high prediction accuracy. The NPP estimation results range from 0 to $1335.53g\;C/m^2$ year before development and from 0 to $1333.77g\;C/m^2$ year after development. As a result of analyzing NPP reduction amount within the development area by type of forest development, the difference is not significant by type of development but it shows the lowest change in the sports facilities development. It was also found that the vegetation was most affected by the edge vegetation of industrial development. This suggests that the industrial development causes additional development in the surrounding area and indirectly influences the carbon sequestration function of edge vegetaion due to the increase of the edge and influx of disturbed species. The NPP calculation method and results presented in this study can be applied to quantitative and qualitative impact assessment of before and after development, and it can be applied to policies related to greenhouse gas in environmental impact assessment.
