  • The aggregation behavior of nystatin (NYS) in the presence of pluronic F127, triblock copolymer of poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO) and poly (propylene oxide) (PPO), was measured and correlated with hemolytic activity. Antifungal activity was also studied using Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model strain. The critical aggregation concentrations (CAC) of the drug were 50.1, 108.0, 134.2, 154.3, and $217.9\;{\mu}M$ at 0.1%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, and 2.0% pluronic F127 solution, respectively. The levels of NYS required to start lysis of erythrocytes were about 80, 100, 125, 150, and $200\;{\mu}M$ at 0.1%, 0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, and 2.0% pluronic F127 solution, respectively. It was $50\;{\mu}M$ in the absence of the polymer. Minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimal fungicidal concentration (MFC) of NYS-pluronic F127 lyophilizate were same at $3\;{\mu}g/ml$, while MIC and MFC of pure NYS are $3\;{\mu}g/ml$ and $12\;{\mu}g/ml$, respectively. By modulating the aggregation behavior of NYS, pluronic F127 was able to reduce the toxicity of the drug without compromising the MIC and MFC.

  • ZnS:Sm, F TFEL devices with double insulating layer are prepared by e-beam evaporation method. Electroluminescence and luminous efficiency of the device fabricated at various conditions are investigated. The main transitions on the emission spectra for ZnS:Sm, F TFEL device occur at$^4G_{5/2}\to^6H_{9/2}^4G_{5/2}\to^6H_{7/2}, \;^4G_{5/2}\to^6H_{5/2}\to$.Among them, the dominant spectral line and its corresponding transition occur at $^4G_{5/2}\to^6H_{9/2}$(650 nm) and results in an orange-red emission color. The optimum concentration and substrate temperature for the ZnS:Sm, F TFEL device are around 1 wt% and $200^{\circ}C$. Luminous efficiency for the device is the largest at optimum condition.

  • Two forms of sea mustard, Undaria Pinnatifida were cultured in order to compare the morphological characteristics and the efficiency of production. U. Pinnatifida f. distans was collected from Wando, Korea and U. Pinnatifida f. typica was transplanted from Sanriku, Japan. The latter form grew faster in length and weight than the former. Maximum growth was shown in early April for both forms, and the growth rates decreased after this. Absolute growth rates between the two forms were quite different. Average total lengths at the harvest season was 161.1cm in U. Pinnatifida f. distans and 183.5 em in U. Pinnatifida f. typica and average weights of those two forms were 1,003.4g and 1,314.6g, respectively. The weight of available parts for the salting process of the two forms were 734.8g and 968.5g, respectively. The rates of total length versus the length of the available part of the two forms were $76\%$ and $83\%$, respectively and those of the total length versus weight of the available part of them were $43.8\%$ and $52.7\%$, respectively. The results of this study suggest that the U. pinnatifida f. typica had more available part per unit weight than that of the U. pinnatifida f. distans for the efficiency of salt processing.

  • For two integers m, n with m $\leq$ n, an [m,n]-factor F in a graph G is a spanning subgraph of G with m $\leq$ d$\_$F/(v) $\leq$ n for all v ∈ V(F). In 1996, H. Enomoto et al. proved that every 3-connected Planar graph G with d$\_$G/(v) $\geq$ 4 for all v ∈ V(G) contains a [2,3]-factor. In this paper. we extend their result to all 3-connected locally finite infinite planar graphs containing no unbounded faces.

  • A 16-wk feeding trial was conducted to investigate the proper feeding regimen on the performance of Korean Native Chicken(KNC) consuming broiler diets. Commercial KNC are normally fed 3 kinds of diets during their life span, i. e., starter(S, 0 to 3wk of age), grower(G, 4 to 7wk of age), and finisher(F, 8 to l6wk of age) diets. In this trial, four feeding regimen were employed:T1(S-G-F), T2(S-G-G), T3(S-S-F), and T4(S-F-F). Day-old 360 KNC were randomly allotted to 12 pens: three pens per treatment, and 30 birds per pen. At the end of the trial, the BW of T2 was significantly better than that of T3(P<0.05), and T1 and T4 were intermediate. No significant difference were found in feed intake, feed conversion ratio, and viability among treatments. It appears that, in terms of BW gain, the T2 is the recommendable feeding regimen for KNC consuming broiler diets.

  • Let ${\pi}:E{\rightarrow}B$ be a Serre fibration with fibre F. We prove that if the inclusion map $i:F{\rightarrow}E$ has a left homotopy inverse r and ${\pi}:E{\rightarrow}B$ admits a cross section ${\rho}:B{\rightarrow}E$, then $G_n(E,F){\cong}{\pi}_n(B){\oplus}G_n(F)$. This is a generalization of the case of trivial fibration which has been proved by Lee and Woo in [8]. Using this result, we will prove that ${\pi}_n(X^A){\cong}{\pi}_n(X){\oplus}G_n(F)$ for the function space $X^A$ from a space A to a weak $H_*$-space X where the evaluation map ${\omega}:X^A{\rightarrow}X$ is regarded as a fibration.

  • For the purpose of developing a microbial insecticide utilizing Bacillus thuringiensis Berliner, research was done and the following results were obtained. 1) As the freeze-dried matter of the cocoon-cooked water discarded from the filature contains much crude protein(51.825%) and a lot of inorganic salts, it can make a good nutrition source for the culture cf B. thuringiensis Berliner. 2) Based on the suspensibility, formula F-5 turned out to be the most suitable for insecticidal use. Its composition includes 0.2 g of the cell-spore-crystal mixture, 25 g of 200-mesh kaolin, 2.5 g of New Kalgen-NX-150, and 2.5 g of glycerine admixed with 8 ml of distilled water and granulated in 80-mesh size. 3) All the components of F-5, F-6 and F-7 are identical except that the amounts of cell-spore-crystal mixture of F-5, F-6, and F-7 are 0.2 g, 0.4 g, and 0.6 g, respectively. Accordingly, their physical properties are almost all the same. 4) Formulas F-5, F-6, and F-7 exhibited an excellent toxicity to Anomis mesogona Walker, Dendrolimus spectabilis Butler, and Margaronia perspectalis Walker at the concentration of 5%. 5) Formulas F-8 and F-9 which contain $NaHCO_3$ as one of their components showed a remarkably reduced toxicity to Anomis mesogona Walker and Dendrolimus spectabilis Butler than F-6 which does not contain $NaHCO_3$. 6) A maximum of $2.97{\times}10^9$ spores per ml was obtained by incubating B. thuringiensis in M-3 which has a pH of 7.05 and comprises 0.2% of ammonium sulphate and 0.8% of glucose dissolved in the cocoon-cooked water, with aeration for 96 hours. 7) Formula F-6 exhibited a somewhat reduced toxicity to Anomis mesogona Walker and Dendrolimus spectabilis Butler, when stored at room temperature for 70 days after formulation and it is desirable to keep it in a dark and cold place. 8) In held applications, formula F-6 showed a good activity in controlling Monema flavescens Walker. Margaronia perspectalis Walker, and Macrosiphum ibarae Matsumura.

  • Graphene doped zinc oxide nanoparticles (G-ZnO) were prepared using modified hummer's technique together with the ultrasonic method and characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Different samples of epoxy resin nanocomposites reinforced with G-ZnO nanoparticles were prepared and were marked as F1 (without adding nanoparticles), F2 (1% w/w G-ZnO), and F3 (2% w/w G-ZnO) in combination of ≈ 56:18:18:8w/w% with epoxy resin/hardener, ammonium polyphosphate, boric acid, and Chitosan. The peak heat release rate (PHRR) of the epoxy nanocomposites was observed to decrease dramatically with the increasing G-ZnO nanoparticles. However, the LOI values increased significantly with the increase in wt % of G-ZnO nanoparticles. From the UL-94V data, it was confirmed that the F2 and F3 samples passed the flame test and were rated as V-0. The results obtained in the present work clearly revealed that the synthesized samples can be used as efficient materials in fire-retardant coating technology.

  • Two types of synthetic zeolites, commercially used (Z-WK) and synthesized by coal fly ash (Z-C1), and raw coal fly ash(F-C1) were examined for its kinetics and adsorption capacities of cobalt. Experimental data are fitted with kinetic models, Lagergen $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ order models, and four types of adsorption isotherm models, Langmuir, Freundlich, Redlich-Peterson, and Koble-Corrigan. Synthesized zeolite (Z-C1) which had 1.51 of Si/Al ratio was synthesized by raw coal fly ash from a thermal power plant. Adsorption capacities with three types of adsorbents, Z-WK, Z-C1, and F-C1, were in the order of Z-C1 (94.15 mg/g) > F-C1 (92.94 mg/g) > Z-WK (88.56mg/g). The adsorption kinetics of Z-WK and Z-C1 with cobalt could be accurately described by a pseudo-second-order rate equation. The adsorption isotherms of Z-WK and Z-C1 with cobalt were well fitted by the Langmuir and Redlich-Peterson equation. Z-C1 will be used to remove cobalt in water as a more efficient absorbent.

  • The author carried out an experiment for the dynamical swimming force of crusian carp, Carassius carassius. The experimental water tank was made of 4mm thick transparent acryl board in the right hexahedral shape (400L$\times$240W$\times$800H mm). The water temperature in the tank ranged 20.6$^{\circ}C$ to 21.2$^{\circ}C$. The water level in the tank was maintained 70cm high from the bottom. The measurement of the swimming force was carried out by use of strain gauge. The results obtained can be summarized as follows: 1) The momentary maximum swimming force F sub(M) (g) and the sustainable maximum swimming force F sub(s) (g) can be expressed as a function of the body weight W(g). F sub(M) =1.45W, F sub(s) =0.29W where the momentary maximum swimming force means the highest value, and the sustainable maximum swimming force means the mean high value sustained for 4 to 5 seconds presented in the recording paper. 2) F sub(M) and F sub(s) can be expressed as a function of the body length L(cm). F sub(M) =0.11L super(2.63), F sub(s) =0.15L super(1.77) 3) The coefficient of hydraulic resistance for crusian carp was derived as 0.287.
