  • In general, jerk phenomenon appeared because of gear changing, when a vehicle starts off or climbs an incline. Therefore, it makes ride quality worse. In this paper, an optimal pattern of automatic transmission was designed using fuzzy logic in order to improve ride quality. After del eloping fuzzy rule for shift pattern control of automatic transmission, dynamic characteristics (i.e. acceleration, velocity, distance and so on) were simulated using dynamic model of a car. To do this he powertrain model of a vehicle with automatic transmission including torque converter, gear box, and final gear drive - from engine to tire - is developed.

  • In this paper GFI (Generalized Fuzzy Isodata) and FI (Fuzzy Isodata) algorithms are studied and applied to the tire tread pattern classification problem. GFI algorithm which repeatedly grouping the partitioned cluster depending on the fuzzy partition matrix is general form of GI algorithm. In the constructing the binary tree using GFI algorithm cluster validity, namely, whether partitioned cluster is feasible or not is checked and construction of the binary tree is obtained by FDH clustering algorithm. These algorithms show the good performance in selecting the prototypes of each patterns and classifying patterns. Directions of edge in the preprocessed image of tire tread pattern are selected as features of pattern. These features are thought to have useful information which well represents the characteristics of patterns.

  • This paper presents an effective design method for a gas identification system. The design method adopted the sequential combination between the hybrid genetic algorithms and the TSK fuzzy logic system. First, the sensor grouping method by hybrid genetic algorithms led the effective dimensional reduction as well as effective pattern analysis from a large volume of pattern dimensions. Second, the fuzzy identification sub-models allowed handling the uncertainty of the sensor data extensively. By these advantages, the proposed identification model demonstrated high accuracy rates for identifying the five different types of gases; it was confirmed throughout the experimental trials.

  • This paper presents a novel method for simultaneously and automatically choosing the nonlinear structures of regressors or discriminant functions, as well as the number of terms to include in a rule-based regression model or pattern classifier. Variables are first partitioned into subsets each of which has a linguistic term (called a causal condition) associated with it; fuzzy sets are used to model the terms. Candidate interconnections (causal combinations) of either a term or its complement are formed, where the connecting word is AND which is modeled using the minimum operation. The data establishes which of the candidate causal combinations survive. A novel theoretical result leads to an exponential speedup in establishing this.

  • In this thesis, an algorithm of fault detection and diagnosis during operation for induction motors under the condition of various loads and rates is investigated. For this purpose, the spectrum pattern of input cutterrents was used to monitor the state of induction motors, and by clustering the spectrum pattern of input currents, the newly occurrence of spectrums pattern caused by faults were detected. For diagnosis of the fault detected, the fuzzy fault tree was designed, and the fuzzy relation equation representing the relation between an induction motor fault and each fault type, was solved. The solution of the fuzzy relation equation shows the possibility of each fault's occurring.

  • The fuzzy TAM(Topographical Attentive Mapping) network is a supervised method of pattern analysis which is composed of input layer, category layer, and output layer. But if we don't know the target value of the pattern, the network can not be trained. In this case, the target value can be replaced by a result induced by using an unsupervised neural network as the SOM (Self-organizing Map). In this paper, we apply the results of SOM to fuzzy TAM network and show its usefulness through the case study.

  • In this paper, we proposed the fuzzy prototype pattern classifier. In the proposed classifier, each prototype is defined to describe the related sub-space and the weight value is assigned to the prototype. The weight value assigned to the prototype leads to the change of the boundary surface. In order to define the prototypes, we use Fuzzy C-Means Clustering which is the one of fuzzy clustering methods. In order to optimize the weight values assigned to the prototypes, we use the Differential Evolutionary Algorithm. We use Linear Discriminant Analysis to estimate the coefficients of the polynomial which is the structure of the consequent part of a fuzzy rule. Finally, in order to evaluate the classification ability of the proposed pattern classifier, the machine learning data sets are used.

  • This paper describes the result of applying neuro-fuzzy reasoning, which conducts Go term knowledge based on pattern knowledge, to the opening game of Go. We discuss the implementation of neuro-fuzzy reasoning for deciding the best next move to proceed through the opening game. We also let neuro-fuzzy reasoning play against TD($\lambda$) learning to test the performance. The experimental result reveals that even the simple neuro-fuzzy reasoning model can compete against TD($\lambda$) learning and it shows great potential to be applied to the real game of Go.

  • In this paper, an Adaptive neuro-fuzzy Inference system(ANFIS) using fuzzy min-max network(FMMN) is proposed. Fuzzy min-max network classifier that utilizes fuzzy sets as pattern classes is described. Each fuzzy set is an aggregation of fuzzy set hyperboxes. Here, the proposed method transforms the hyperboxes into gaussian menbership functions, where the transformed membership functions are inserted for generating fuzzy rules of ANFIS. Finally, we applied the proposed method to the classification problem of iris data and obtained a better performance than previous works.

  • In this paper, we propose a variable weighted average (VWA) learning method in order to improve the performance of the fuzzy ART neural network that has been developed by Grossberg. In a conventional method, the Fast Commit Slow Recode (FCSR), when an input pattern falls in a category, the representative pattern of the category is updated at a fixed learning rate regardless of the degree of similarity of the input pattern. To resolve this issue, a variable learning method proposes reflecting the distance between the input pattern and the representative pattern to reduce the FCSR's category proliferation issue and improve the pattern recognition rate. However, these methods still suffer from the category proliferation issue and limited pattern recognition rate due to inevitable excessive learning created by use of fuzzy AND. The proposed method applies a weighted average learning scheme that reflects the distance between the input pattern and the representative pattern when updating the representative pattern of a category suppressing excessive learning for a representative pattern. Our simulation results show that the newly proposed variable weighted average learning method (VWA) mitigates the category proliferation problem of a fuzzy ART neural network by suppressing excessive learning of a representative pattern in a noisy environment and significantly improves the pattern recognition rates.
