  • In this paper, the hybrid-type current controller for inverter TIG systems was implemented and it was shown that the low-current pulse wave forms with high dynamic performance could be obtained. It is not sri easy to obtain the optimum gain tuning of PID controllers in digital PWM control methods. Hybrid control methods which uses automatic tuning techniques after adding fuzzy control methods to traditional PID controllers are chosen to improve the dynamic performance of PID controller's. To demonstrate the practical significance and dynamic performance improvement of the results, some simulation and experimental results are presented.

  • A position control system using hydraulic cylinder is modeled as a nonlinear system. In order to control this nonlinear system, in this paper, the fuzzy PID control technique which has time-varying control parameters is adopted. In this study, an exclusive sensor to detect the position of hydraulic cylinder is used, which is embeded in hydraulic cylinder.

Study on a New and Effective Fuzzy PID Ship Autopilot

  • Ship Autopilots are usually designed based on the PD and Pill controllers because of simplicity, reliability and easy to construct. However their performance in various environmental conditions is not as good as desired. This disadvantage can be overcome by adjusting works or constructing adaptive controllers. But those methods are complex and not easy to do. This paper presents a new method for constructing a Ship Autopilot based on the combination of Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC) and Linear Control Theory (Pill control). The new Ship Autopilot has the advantages of both the Pill and FLC control methodologies: easy to construct, and optimal control laws can be established based on ship masters' knowledge. Therefore, the new ship autopilot can be well adapted with parameter variations and strong environment effects. Simulation using MATLAB software for a ship with real parameters shows high effectiveness of the Fuzzy Pill autopilot in course keeping and course changing manoeuvres in comparison with the ordinary Pill ship autopilots.

  • This paper proposes a new width control system composed of an ANWC(Automatic Neural network based Width Control) and a fuzzy-PID controller in hot strip finishing mills which aims at obtaining the desirable width. The ANWC is designed using a neural network based width prediction model to minimize a width variation between the measured width and its target value. Input variables for the neural network model are chosen by using the hypothesis testing. The fuzzy-PlD control system is also designed to obtain the fast looper response and the high width control precision in the finishing mill. It is shown through the field test of the Pohang no. 1 hot strip mill of POSCO that the performance of the width margin is considerably improved by the proposed control schemes.

  • To deal with non-linearities and time-varying characteristics of hydraulic systems, in this paper, the neuro-fuzzy controller has been introduced. This controller does not require an accurate mathematical model for the nonlinear factor. In order to solve general fuzzy inference problems, the input membership function and fuzzy reasoning rules are used for determining the controller Parameters. These parameters are determined by using the learning algorithm. The control performance of the neuro-fuzzy controller is obtained through a series of experiments for the various types of input while applying disturbances to the cylinder. .and performance of this controller was compared with that of PID, PD controller. As a experimental result, it can be proven that the position tracking performance of the neuro-fuzzy is better than that of PID and PD controller.

  • A mathematical model is developed for thermal solution copolymerization of styrene and acrylonitrile in a continuous stirred tank reactor(CSTR). Computational studies are carried out with the continuous copolymerization system model developed in this work to give the monomer conversion, copolymer composition and the average molecular weights of the copolymer. By performing the dynamic analysis of the reaction system, the polymer properties against the changes in the operating conditions are determined quantitatively. The cascade PID and fuzzy controller show satisfactory performances for both set point tracking and disturbance rejection. Especially, the fuzzy controller is superior to the PID controller.

  • Motivated by a recent work, a fuzzy-power-controller(FPC) is designed for the relieving-horsepower control of output variable pump with electrical proportional valve and actually implemented on the industrial excavator. In order to calculate the output power of pump with input of FPC, a linear discrete time model of load system to pump is obtained and the result is applied to control the engine-pump coupled system by software without pressure and flow sensor. The FPC controls the engine and pump coupled system by relieving horsepower control according to the change of load and the running conditions in relieving horsepower control are selected by fuzzy inference engine. A case study is peformed through the construction of the control device and installation on the excavator. It shows that the relieving-horsepower control system with the FPC, as suggested in this paper, is superior to the conventional PID controllers. And also, the excavator, with the FPC, shows that the power-loss of the coupled system is reduced and the running speed of the hydraulic actuator is enhanced.

  • Terminal voltage of the Automatic Voltage Regulator(AVR) of brushless synchronous generator is generally being controlled by PID Control way in shore and ship field. However, in case of changeable large load on power system, PID control method is deficiency to respond output voltage with settling time. Hence, taking into consideration this situation, it is required new control method. In this thesis, we propose Fuzzy Logic Control(FLC) which has more optimal robust control way in order to respond varying values of terminal voltage to the brushless synchronous generator through simulation of MATLAB/SIMULINK and prove Fuzzy logic control more optimal compared with PID control.

  • A rule based fuzzy expert system to self-tune PID controllers is proposed in this paper. The proposed expert system contains two rule bases, where one is responsible for "Long term tuning" and the other for "Incremental tuning". The rule for "Long term tuning" are extracted from the Wills'map and the knowledge about the implicit relations between PID gains and important long term features of the output response such as overshoot, damping and rise time, etc., while 'Incremental tuning" rules are obtained from the relations between PID gains and short term features, error and change in error. In the PID control environment, the proposed expert system operates in two phases sequentially. In the first phase, the long term tuning is performed until long term features meet their desired values approximately. Then the incremental tuning tarts with PID gains provided by the long term tuning procedure. It is noticeable that the final PID gains obtained in the incremental tuning phase are only the temporal ones. Simulation results show that the proposed rule base for "Long term tuning" provides superior control performance to that of Litt and that further improvement of control performance is obtained by the "Incremental tuning'.ance is obtained by the "Incremental tuning'.ing'.

A Study on Fuzzy Control Simulator of Naturally Circulated Boiler (자연 순환식보일러의 퍼지제어 모사기 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The engineering equations, which have been used in many engineering companies, were employed for the dynamic modelling part in order to develop the naturally circulated boiler simulator. The fuzzy algorithm, which is similar to the algorithm of making decision by the human being, was developed for the boiler simulator controller and its simulated variables were compared with those of classical PID simulations to verify the stability and the effectiveness of fuzzy controller. The simulator is for the naturally circulated boiler and the main components are the furnace, the drum, the super heater, and the economizer. The combustion and thermal radiation dominant equations were used within the furnace and the mass conservation and the energy rate balance equations were employed for the drum part. The heat transfer rates were calculated using the logarithmic mean temperature differences both for the super heater and for the economizer. The simulations are very useful to understand the boiler operations and the engineering design of the main components. The main program was developed under the PC window condition by linking the fuzzy controller to the main boiler program using the Visual C++ language. The various operational conditions such as the abrupt changes of load, the changes of water supply pipes and the diameter of drum were simulated.
