The recycling cell formation problem means that disposal products me classified into recycling part families using group technology in their end of life phase. Disposal products have the uncertainties of product status by usage influences during product use phase and recycling cells are formed design, process and usage attributes. In order to treat the uncertainties, fuzzy set theory and fuzzy logic-based neural network model are applied to recycling cell formation problem far disposal products. In this paper, a heuristic approach fuzzy ART neural network is suggested. The modified fuzzy ART neural network is shown that it has a great efficiency and give an extension for systematically generating alternative solutions in the recycling cell formation problem. We present the results of this approach applied to disposal refrigerators and the comparison of performances between other algorithms. This paper introduced a procedure which integrates economic and environmental factors into the disassembly of disposal products for recycling in recycling cells. A qualitative method of disassembly analysis is developed and its ai is to improve the efficiency of the disassembly and to generated an optimal disassembly which maximize profits and minimize environmental impact. Three criteria established to reduce the search space and facilitate recycling opportunities.

In retrieving large database of image data, the clustering is essential for fast retrieval. However, it is difficult to cluster a number of image data adequately. Moreover, current retrieval methods using similarities are uncertain of retrieval accuracy and take much retrieving time. In this paper, a suggested image retrieval system combines Fuzzy ART neural network algorithm to reinforce defects and to support them efficiently. This image retrieval system takes color and texture as specific feature required in retrieval system and normalizes each of them. We adapt Fuzzy ART algorithm as neural network which receive normalized input-vector and propose improved Fuzzy ART algorithm. The result of implementation with 200 image data shows approximately retrieval ratio of 83%.
In this paper we present a new approach to estimate link travel speed based on the hybrid neuro-fuzzy network. It combines the fuzzy ART algorithm for structure learning and the backpropagation algorithm for parameter adaptation. At first, the fuzzy ART algorithm partitions the input/output space using the training data set in order to construct initial neuro-fuzzy inference network. After the initial network topology is completed, a backpropagation learning scheme is applied to optimize parameters of fuzzy membership functions. An initial neuro-fuzzy network can be applicable to any other link where the probe car data are available. This can be realized by the network adaptation and add/modify module. In the network adaptation module, a CBR(Case-Based Reasoning) approach is used. Various experiments show that proposed methodology has better performance for estimating link travel speed comparing to the existing method.

This paper discusses the application of fuzzy-ARTMAP neural network to compensate the nonlinearity of satellite communication channel. The fuzzy-ARTMAP is the class of ART(adaptive resonance theory) architectures designed fur supervised loaming. It has capabilities not fecund in other neural network approaches, that includes a small number of parameters, no requirements fur the choice of initial weights, automatic increase of hidden units, and capability of adding new data without retraining previously trained data. By a match tracking process with vigilance parameter, fuzzy-ARTMAP neural network achieves a minimax teaming rule that minimizes predictive error and maximizes generalization. Thus, the system automatically leans a minimal number of recognition categories, or hidden units, to meet accuracy criteria. As a input-converting process for implementing fuzzy-ARTMAP equalizer, the sigmoid function is chosen to convert actual channel output to the proper input values of fuzzy-ARTMAP. Simulation studies are performed over satellite nonlinear channels. QPSK signals with Gaussian noise are generated at random from Volterra model. The performance of proposed fuzzy-ARTMAP equalizer is compared with MLP equalizer.
The recycling cell formation problem means that disposal products are classified into recycling part families using group technology in their end of life phase. Disposal products have the uncertainties of product status by usage influences. Recycling cells are formed considering design, process and usage attributes. In this paper, a novel approach to the design of cellular recycling system is proposed, which deals with the recycling cell formation and assignment of identical products concurrently. Fuzzy clustering algorithm and Fuzzy-ART neural network are applied to describe the states of disposal product with the membership functions and to make recycling cell formation. This approach leads to recycling and reuse of the materials, components, and subassemblies and can evaluate the value at each cell of disposal products. Application examples are illustrated by disposal refrigerators, compared fuzzy clustering with Fuzzy-ART neural network performance in cell formation.
Today, an automatic and accurate processing using computer is essential because of the rapid increase of travelers. The determination of forged passports plays an important role in the immigration control system. Hence, as the preprocessing phase for the determination of forged passports, this paper proposes a novel method for the recognition of passports based on the fuzzy binarization and the fuzzy RBF network. First, for the extraction of individual codes for recognizing, this paper targets code sequence blocks including individual codes by applying Sobel masking, horizontal smearing and a contour tracking algorithm on the passport image. Then the proposed method binarizes the extracted blocks using fuzzy binarization based on the trapezoid type membership function. Then, as the last step, individual codes are recovered and extracted from the binarized areas by applying CDM masking and vertical smearing. This paper also proposes an enhanced fuzzy RBF network that adapts the enhanced fuzzy ART network for the middle layer. This network is applied to the recognition of individual codes. The results of the experiments for performance evaluation on the real passport images showed that the proposed method has the better performance compared with other approaches.

The mass attenuation coefficient is the primary physical parameter to model narrow beam gamma-ray attenuation. A new machine learning based approach is proposed to model gamma-ray shielding behavior of composites alternative to theoretical calculations. Two fuzzy logic algorithms and a neural network algorithm were trained and tested with different mixture ratios of vanadium slag/epoxy resin/antimony in the 0.05 MeV-2 MeV energy range. Two of the algorithms showed excellent agreement with testing data after optimizing adjustable parameters, with root mean squared error (RMSE) values down to 0.0001. Those results are remarkable because mass attenuation coefficients are often presented with four significant figures. Different training data sizes were tried to determine the least number of data points required to train sufficient models. Data set size more than 1000 is seen to be required to model in above 0.05 MeV energy. Below this energy, more data points with finer energy resolution might be required. Neuro-fuzzy models were three times faster to train than neural network models, while neural network models depicted low RMSE. Fuzzy logic algorithms are overlooked in complex function approximation, yet grid partitioned fuzzy algorithms showed excellent calculation efficiency and good convergence in predicting mass attenuation coefficient.
