Korea furniture industry is the difficulty of producing manpower supply and demand together with rising raw material and are facing severe difficulties as a diversification of consumer needs. Since the onset of the 21st century, digital technology has been widely adopted in various fields of art; it has enabled artists or designers to try diverse and brand-new ways of expression in literally every possible field of art, including painting, sculpture, and other design work. Furniture design is no exception. From the initial design step to the final production of furniture, modern digital skills are broadly utilized, creating a whole new set of designs that would otherwise be hardly conceivable and realizing a highly efficient furniture-making mechanism. More recently, the 3D printing technique, which is called a 21st century alchemy, has been successfully commercialized and is getting more popular, heralding yet another innovative shift in the area of furniture design and production. In this context, this study discusses the background of the furniture design using digital technology, and identifies the correlations between the modern digital technology and furniture design by redefining the concept of such digital technology. By reviewing multiple real-life cases, some of the key digital expressions found in modern furniture design are also analyzed. This study aims at suggesting the reason why digital technology is significant and promising in diverse ways for the development of modern furniture design.

Currently, the global furniture market can not overlook environmental problems due to changes in environmental regulations. In order to grow into a global corporation, environmentally friendly design became essential. In addition, domestic and foreign consumers are increasingly interested in and spending on children's furniture, and demand for environment - friendly furniture for children's health and emotional development is increasing. In the era of universal consumer tastes due to massive mass production, it has been changed into a multi-product small-volume production period that reflects the preferences of various consumers, so that various types of furniture that meet individual preferences are required. Therefore, in this study, we investigated various personal opinions, perception, preference, propensity to use furniture, purchasing points, etc. for environmentally friendly children's furniture, and provided basic data for environmentally friendly children's furniture development that reflects consumer preference and requirements. Accordingly, 243 parents who have more than one child living in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon were surveyed about the use of children's furniture and the perception and preference of environmentally friendly children's furniture. According to the survey results, 64.57% of the respondents knew about eco - friendly children's furniture and the most popular way to get to know eco-friendly furniture was Internet advertising (49.48%). The rate of recognizing eco-friendly furniture as healthy furniture with no emission of hazardous substances was high as 56.16%. The purchase intention of eco-friendly children's furniture was very high at 86.01% and the most important factor in purchasing was the harmlessness to the human body (56.88%). 59.50% said that it is not possible to distinguish environmentally friendly furniture, which means that there is not much information to consumers yet. In addition, the preferred price range is 500~1000 thousand won, and the preference for the rest furniture is high. In the preferred form type, unit type modular furniture is 36.13%, in the material, wood is 72.35%, in the color, the color of wood with wood grain is high as 45.56%.

When we look at the pattern techniques of wooden furniture in the 19th century Joeson Dynasty, we see that furniture patterns in the main living room were showy and colorful while furniture patterns in the library room, where noble men used to study, were natural and moderate, retaining the actual color of the material without any artificial coloring. Even the serial patterns in the Hwe-Jang technique, Which were used rarely, used moderate techniques. such as weaving in patterns with colorless woods - willow and black persimmon ets. - rather than using excessive techniques. However, considering the marquetry&intarsia technique of ceramic and the silver string intarsia technique of metal then current, wood work must also have been technically advanced. Korean modern wood furniture needs remedies to improve the standard of sound wood work techniques. This study shows that pattern unit production, composition techniques, and color effects etc. Using colored patterns bars, by improving the pattern composition techniques of Marquetry&Intarsia, can be substituted for the production logic of modern manufactured furniture.

This study aimed at developing furniture for children by Ilgumte which is an expert manufacturer of educational equipments for school and kindergarten and the aim of this investigation is to develop the child-oriented furniture in consideration of Ilgumte's characteristic as a company composed of the disabled people, and furthermore to create a new sales market by developing own technology to improve competitive power. The current status of the child furniture in domestic and international market was researched and design concept on basis of this analysis was set, and through the designing process the new items of furniture having characteristics as follows were developed. First, the simple production way for the disabled to be able to work was selected and plywood used mainly by Ilgumte was presented as main material. Second, moving course, space and storage function were maximum considered, so that children feel convenient at using the furniture in their space, in case of playing as well as leaning. Third, natural wooden texture was mostly reflected for the emotional aspects of children and pink color played a role as partial accents. Finally, difficult production skill and expensive material were excluded for cost down.

3D form study is one of basic subjects in industrial design education. There are an array of textbooks of visual art, design and architecture, most of which address basic geometrical form study and abstract forms. With the introduction of computerization, current trends are directed to reduce basic form education and students' participation in classes and their accomplishments. This study was intended to develop works under a theme of furniture design with concrete shapes and functions. This study focused on developing relevant process by fusing 3D form study and furniture design which fall into basic design and design studio subjects, respectively. Among 3D form studies, applied were a concept of 3D configuration that explores the relations between surface forms and 3D forms. Furniture design is a challenge to students at beginner or intermediate level in basic design education from initial devising stage to production in kind. To ease high level of difficulties at designing and producing stages, technical education was systematized in the process of conceptualizing, developing idea and production. This type of challenge was carried out during separate semesters, along with a case study done to develop different types of challenges. This study helped students to be motivated and actively participate in classes and well perform advanced form study and technical training from design to actual production.

This study is a review on the relationship between furniture purchasers and producers in the Joseon period. Understanding the relationships in our traditional spirit and the Joseon furniture that reflects a aesthetic sense is a meaningful work. Joseon was to build an ideal country which put emphasis on the order and harmony through Theory of 'Yeak' as the confucianism nation. Human aesthetics, which emphasis on the spiritual value by confirmity to nature and forcus on the relaxed, deficient personality rather than completeness was established as the central formative consciousness of the Joseon Dynasty. The nature of things in the confucian scholar prior to the representations of things is expressed in the form of master craftsman's skill and soul. Formative consciousness of the confucian scholar is to realize ideals by communciation and interchange with master craftsman's soul in the form of the Joseon furniture. The beauty of restraint and brevity in the Joseon Dynasty furniture includes meanings and procedures of art work. It implies an orderer's purpose of production and a producer's products. Understanding the spirit of times in the production becomes the cornerstone capable of getting closer to the furniture ultimate proper function. These problems have a very close relationship with the problems of modern people's commnuication. We expect an even higher growth of the furniture by achieving more improved communication based on the consumer's great insight and the producer's passion.

The most widely used material in furniture is wood. It is not only because it has good machinability and can be easily accessed, but also it is eco-friendly and human-friendly. Such material has been continuously being used for furniture and its machining method has been being actively researched and developed. Lumber has and has developed its own machining method. The conventional lumber machining method is difficult to make various types of furniture because it focuses on solving lumber's own modification problem due to the swelling and shrinking, and durability. Considering such characteristic of the material, a method to make it light and durable has been being researched and possibilities were found in wooden ships. Wooden ships are ships made of lumber, and are light and strong to be used in water. Also, in order to reduce the water resistance, it has streamlined curves so is formatively beautiful. The elegant curves and light and strong structure showed sufficient possibility to be used in furniture. Thus, the purpose of this study is to find a method to make various shapes of lumber lightly and strongly, using the production method of wooden ships, and to use this production method in designing furniture to propose a new form and structure of bench design, differentiating from conventional monotypic furniture.

There are several way to classify the furniture. The furniture can be classified into use, style, and function, but if the furniture is classified into the way of production, it can be the industrial furniture and the studio furniture. Especially, technology and function of the furniture are important elements in industrial furniture. However, it could be considered artists' character and concept as more important elements in the studio furniture. The studio furniture had come out one of the historical movement in American furniture field after the World War II. This case to apply found objects began to increase after the 1970s. Using objects In furniture design field had built up sprightly after end of 1950s. This expression could be the statement of new expression that essential properties of matter in objects is removed. I try to suggest original and interesting furniture design to apply found objects in this thesis. Especially, I use the Korean traditional objects for the furniture and try to make their essential function to be changed. Also, I focus on furniture design to have formative element in their shapes.

Current Korea furniture market is holding and leading with Hanssem, Livart, and other 10 main furnitures companies. The Hanssem furniture company is the first sales in Korea. And whole sales revenue was over 1 trillion KRW. Recently in Korea furniture market is changing rapidly by announcement of IKEA of expansion to Korea. IKEA is the number one furniture company in north european countries. Also, this company spreads at world widely, 44 countries and 358 shops, with their own marketing plans between lowest prices and developing north european furniture styles. Korean furniture companies are get in dangerous condition, and especially serious problems near Korean furniture company using same market place with IKEA. This research is expecting IKEA's brand power will hitting Korea furniture industries. Therefore, Korea furniture companies and industries need analysis of IKEA furniture, marketing strategy of IKEA, production strategy and other plans must be prepare for expansion of IKEA in Korea.
