  • The furniture industry in Korea is characterized by its 42.6% of concentration in Gyeonggi Metropolitan area. When taking a look at the representative furniture complexes including Maseok, Ilsan, and Eojeong, the furniture complexes and stores were spontaneously generated at the outskirts of a city whose land cost is relatively cheap. As a consequence, they tend to be jumbled up and face to be moved or contracted forcefully owing to the new town development plan of Metropolitan areas. In contrast, Italia that is one of the advanced country in furniture industry, cultivates and develops furniture complexes in Brianza district by supporting them oriented in the metropolis Milano while hosting large-scale furniture exhibitions. Such attempts have advanced the position of the italian furniture industry into the most leading figure. In this extent, the furniture industry in Korea that is a traditional industry of Gyeonggi Province has to device a political measure and systematic measure for its cultivation as a way to secure the foundation to develop a high value-added product and foster its competitiveness. Such movements are suggested for the development of the furniture industry in Gyeonggi Province.

경기북부 가구산업현황과 발전 방향 모색 연구 (A Study on the Current Status of Furniture Industry in the Northern Region of Gyeonggi Province and Future Policy Direction)

  • The furniture industry of the northern region of Gyeonggi Province consists of several regional complexes which was just autogenously, that is, not based on the organized and planned movements cultivated and clustered, so it stays small businesses. This fact certainly requires to find right courses for future policy direction, in order to develop the furniture industry centering in the northern region of Gyeonggi Province internationally competitive. Consequently the aim of the present study was to investigate the characteristics of the furniture industry in the northern region of Gyeonggi Province first and to present right development directions for the innovation of the structure of furniture industry according to the change of the times, i.e. to connect the industry, university and the authorities concerned well and to strengthen the technology level of furniture industry accordingly. In addition, this requires education and training of the excellent designers being able to create high added-value industrial sectors, including finding a new Korean national brand which should preoccupy the global market. Furthermore, the high-tech furniture industrial complex specialized in manufacture, distribution and marketing such as the division of work between business to business should be built and finally a Korean traditional & unique furniture culture should be created on the basis of a cultural approach of furniture industry. It would be the timing for entire business sectors related to Korea's furniture industry to establish an international standard certification like ISO, in order to upgrade the quality of furniture steadily while keeping our own tradition, and this belongs to a meaningful attempt for the high-tech lifestyles and the improvement in the quality of life of customers.

  • Korea furniture industry is the difficulty of producing manpower supply and demand together with rising raw material and are facing severe difficulties as a diversification of consumer needs.   • Our furniture industry is rapidly changing due to the declining economy. The existing weak furniture industry in Korea has yielded its inability to complete in a very competitive marketplace. The furniture companies lack the special necessary skills and professional knowledge necessary to design and manufacture furniture. Therefore, constant effort by designers and managers is needed in order to strengthen the Korean furniture industry's strategy and advance it into becoming a recognized player in the area of furniture design, worldwide, Designers has to have systematic training in order to have insight into upcoming international trends and incorporate new manufacturing techniques immediately This study will analyze the curriculums related to furniture design departments in Universities and technical schools in Germany, a leader in the furniture industry. It will present new educational ideas and program for furniture designers in the Korean universities.

  • Korea Furniture design development process is repeated a number of changes by the change of residence and type of market demand derived from the process of industrialization. The modernization process of industrialization advances by large-scale population moves to the city to urbanization proceeds rapidly. Housing problems are concentrated in cities and sparked the furniture industry, furniture design by changes in marketing concepts that appear in the industrialization phase, growth must necessarily accommodate the needs of consumers. Including kitchen furniture, living room furniture and master bedroom furniture has been sensitively adapted changes in the structure of these houses, particularly structural changes Apartments. Starting in the 1990s, jumping over furniture industry has adapted quickly to the market demand, changes in marketing concepts. Furniture industry is growing market share in most of the country, but the entire industry had to undergo a competitive marketing overheating due to excessive supply in excess of market demand since the mid-1990s. Changes in furniture design in this process was the change in furniture design more than the change of the residential structure. The study industrial development and marketing concepts are changing to construct a model to track the changes varied styles and time changes affect whether the main furniture design.

  • 본격적인 지방화시대를 맞이하여 현재 경기북부 가구산업은 지역의 몇몇 가구산업단지 를 중심으로 영세적으로 이루어지고 있으나, 보다 경쟁력 있는 산업으로 육성하기 위하여 이를 가구산업의 전체적인 관점에서 조명하여야 한다. 이러한 차원에서 경기도에서 경기북부지역에 폭넓게 기반을 두고 있는 가구산업을 방관하기보다는 먼저 구조적 측면이나 제도적인 측면에서 경기북부지역을 중심으로 한 가구산업 현황을 분석한 결과를 통하여 경기북부에 연계된 다양한 산업과의 클러스터 화를 추진하며 적극적인 지원, 체계적인 정책마련 등을 통하여 문제를 해결하며 국제적으로 경쟁력 있는 산업으로서 총체적으로 개발육성 방안이 필요하다고 판단된다. 따라서 본 연구는 경기북부 지역에 각 가구업체의 네트워크를 총괄할 수 있는 전담 기구로서 가구산업센타와 세계화에 맞추어 국제적으로 경쟁할 수 있는 첨단가구산업단지 신설 그리고 기술적 차원에서 협업을 이룰 수 있는 가구관련 공동브랜드사업을 제시하였다. 또한 이러한 제시들이 활성화되기 위하여 경기도는 물론이거니와 산업의 주체라 할 수 있는 가구업체와 지역 대학의 관련학과 전문가들의 네트워크가 절실하게 필요하다.

국내 금속가구 디자인 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Design Development of the Metal Furniture in Korea)

  • While furniture making in general has been traditionally regarded as labor-intensive industry, the making of metal furniture has immense potential in terms of its growth and as a value added industry. Granted that the technology and designing of metal furniture in Korea are still behind the standards enjoyed by the developed nations of the world, still its future here is promising when we consider the comparatively short history of its industry, Korea depends on imports from abroad for almost all the natural resources she needs for industry. Metal (especially iron) industry is, however, one field where she has some advantage over other nations. Korea is a major producer of iron and her technology in this field is competitive in the international market. When viewed from the points of environment and ecology metal furniture has good points, as metals are recyclable when they are discarded and collected properly according to their reusability. This adds to the merits its industry has here as this country, with her limited natural resources, has yet to solve the pressing problem of disposing ever-increasing waste matter from homes and factories.

  • 이태리 가구산업의 특성을 파악하기 위해서는 가구 산업의 인프라(INFRA)적 측면, 즉 환경 적 측면에 대한 분석이 무엇보다 중요하리라 생각한다. 가구산업의 지역적 조건과 상황, 혈연중심의 중소기업의 구조, 기술혁신과 생산성 향상에 심혈을 기울이는 생산자들의 역할, 유통 및 생산현황 등과 같은 조건들이 환경 적 특성을 이해하는데 중요한 요인으로 파악된다. 이러한 산업구조의 제반 여건 하에 건축가들의 디자인 활동으로 다양한 디자인 언어가 공존하는 문화가 형성되어 있는 점 또한 이태리 가구산업의 특성으로 간주할 수 있다. 이에 이태리 가구산업의 특성과 발전배경을 본보기로 하여 국내가구산업의 발전에 시금석이 되고자 한다.

  • Current Korea furniture market is holding and leading with Hanssem, Livart, and other 10 main furnitures companies. The Hanssem furniture company is the first sales in Korea. And whole sales revenue was over 1 trillion KRW. Recently in Korea furniture market is changing rapidly by announcement of IKEA of expansion to Korea. IKEA is the number one furniture company in north european countries. Also, this company spreads at world widely, 44 countries and 358 shops, with their own marketing plans between lowest prices and developing north european furniture styles. Korean furniture companies are get in dangerous condition, and especially serious problems near Korean furniture company using same market place with IKEA. This research is expecting IKEA's brand power will hitting Korea furniture industries. Therefore, Korea furniture companies and industries need analysis of IKEA furniture, marketing strategy of IKEA, production strategy and other plans must be prepare for expansion of IKEA in Korea.

  • Recently, the demand for marine leisure industry is rapidly increasing due to the five-day work week and the per capita income approaching US $ 30,000. In particular, the Republic of Korea is surrounded by the sea on three sides and is composed of 3,150 islands and coastline. As shipbuilding infrastructure is abundant and the government is expected to actively support policies as a new growth engine, leisure boat furniture industry is expected to grow rapidly along with leisure boat manufacturing. Therefore, in this paper, after understanding the leisure boat (yacht) and analyzing the requirements of yacht furniture, we proposed a beautiful yacht furniture design that is lightweight, durable and safe using a 120-foot super yacht that can best show the characteristics of yacht furniture using wood bending technology and color variation of woods.
