  • A high resolution algorithm is presented for resolving multiple narrowband plane waves that are incident on an equispaced linear array. To overcome the deleterious effects due to coherent sources, a number of noise-eigenvector-based approaches have been proposed for narrowband signal processing. For differing reasons, each f these methods provide a less than satisfactory resolution of the coherency problem. The proposed algorithm makes use of fundamental property possessed by those eigenvectors of the spatial covariance matrix that are associated with eigenvalues that are larger than the sensor noise level. This property is then used to solve the incoherent and coherent sources incident on an equispaced linear array. Simulation results are shown to illustrate the high resolution performance achieved with this new approach relative to that obtained with MUSIC and spatial smoothed MUSIC.

  • Educational facilities have an affect to make a decently learning environment. After constructed, it needs a maintenance plan to keep the performance or function which provide the repair time, repair scope and ratio. But the fundamental data are so insufficient that the field worker can't provide the maintenance plan and has no choice use the other data which concerned with apartment or office building. Above all, the service life is indispensible to make a repair plan because the repair time and scope would be provided within the service life. This study aimed at providing the method to make a service life of component in educational facilities and applying the method into the roof proof and floor finishing. Results are shown that first, it is important to set the $1^{st}$ repair time after constructed. when it proposes the three ways with the probability approach, choice probability model and cumulative cost function. Second, the service life of roof proof is provided with about 35 years. In addition, the service life of the floor finishing is about 40 years. These result would be utilized to conduct the repair plan under the service life.

  • Recently, with the diffusion of a new paradigm named as the creative economy, the government's interests and efforts regarding support of SMEs' R&D have been concentrated. In particular, due to the dominant perception that the fundamental science and original technology from government-funded research institutes can further enhance the capabilities of SMEs' R&D, the importance of performance's diffusion on national R&D is further emphasized. In fact, the domestic SMEs don't have enough budget and workforce, so that all of self-contained technologies, product's competitiveness as well as the R&D capabilities, are very vulnerable, and thereby SMEs' commercialization is very likely to fail. For this end, SMEs need to adopt the concept of open innovation as the use of external R&D resources by licensing. In this study, we conducted a survey on a total of 286 domestic IT SMEs, and analyzed empirically to compare the degree of their acceptance on technological innovation between two groups divided by open/not-open innovation. As a result, we drew some of the key factors influencing the acceptance of the SMEs' open technological innovation, and found a variety of implications through them.

  • There is a relationship between effective time management and project success. Therefore, advanced time management techniques have recently been introduced. This paper investigates the current time management practices for road construction sites and proposes lean construction practices to effectively implement time management. This would be helpful to establish an effective schedule plan. Also, an efficient construction site time management system can be developed base on this fundamental research. Furthermore, future research should be performed to investigate the performance of lean construction.

Modeling mesoscale uncertainty for concrete in tension

  • Due to heterogeneities at all scales, concrete exhibits significant variability in mechanical behavior from sample to sample. An understanding of the fundamental mechanical performance of concrete must therefore be embedded in a stochastic framework. The current work attempts to address the connection between a two-dimensional concrete mesostructure and the random local material properties associated within that mesostructure. This work builds on previous work that has focused on the random configuration of concrete mesostructures. This was accomplished by developing an understanding of the effects of variations in the mortar strength and the mortar-aggregate interfacial strength in given deterministic mesostructural configurations. The results are assessed through direct tension tests that are validated by comparing experimental results of two different, pre-arranged mesostructures, with the intent of isolating the effect of local variations in strength. Agreement is shown both in mechanical property values as well as the qualitative nature of crack initiation and propagation.

A Design of Push-push Voltage Controlled Oscillator using Frequency Tuning Circuit with Single Transmission Line (단일 전송선로의 주파수 동조회로를 이용한 push-push 전압제어 발진기의 설계 및 제작)

  • In this paper, a push-push VCDRO (Voltage Controlled Dielectric Resonator Oscillator) with a modified frequency tuning structure is investigated. The push-push VCDRO designed at 16GHz is manufactured using a LTCC (Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic) technology to reduce the circuit size. The frequency tuning structure is embedded in intermediate layer of A6 substrate by an advantage of LTCC process. Experimental results show that the fundamental frequency suppression is above 30dBc, the frequency tuning range is 0.43MHz over control voltage of 0 to 12V, and phase noise of push-push VCDRO presents a good performance of -103dBc/Hz at 100KHz offset frequency from carrier.

  • Dual throat nozzle(DTN) is recently attracting much attention as a new concept of the thrust vectoring technique of propulsion jet. This DTN is designed with two throats, an upstream minimum and a downstream minimum at the nozzle exit, with a cavity in between the upstream throat and exit. In the present study, a computational work has been carried out to analyze the performance of a dual throat nozzle(DTN) at various mass flow rate of secondary flow. Two-dimensional, steady, compressible Navier-Stokes equations were solved using a fully implicit finite volume scheme. The present computational results were validated with some experimental data available. Based upon the present results, Thrust-vector control using a DTN is discussed in terms of the thrust coefficient and the coefficient of discharge.

  • Liquid rocket injectors play crucial roles on propulsive performance, combustion stability, and heat transfer characteristics. Nevertheless, their developments have mainly relied on empirical methods and expensive hot-firing tests due to lack of fundamental understanding of high pressure combustion phenomena in the near-injector regions. The present study was motivated by recent efforts to develop reliable modeling of liquid rocket combustion. The turbulent combustion model based on the flamelet concept has been extended to take into account real-fluid behaviors occurred at supercritical pressures, and validated against measurements for a cryogenic nitrogen injection, a non-premixed turbulent jet flame at atmospheric pressure, and a LOx/$GH_2$ coaxial shear injector at a supercritical pressure.

Basis of design and numerical modeling of offshore wind turbines

  • Offshore wind turbines are relatively complex structural and mechanical systems located in a highly demanding environment. In the present paper the fundamental aspects and the major issues related to the design of these special structures are outlined. Particularly, a systemic approach is proposed for a global design of such structures, in order to handle coherently their different parts: the decomposition of these structural systems, the required performance and the acting loads are all considered under this philosophy. According to this strategy, a proper numerical modeling requires the adoption of a suitable technique in order to organize the qualitative and quantitative assessments in various sub-problems, which can be solved by means of sub-models at different levels of detail, for both structural behavior and loads simulation. Specifically, numerical models are developed to assess the safety performances under aerodynamic and hydrodynamic actions. In order to face the problems of the actual design of a wind farm in the Mediterranean Sea, in this paper, three schemes of turbines support structures have been considered and compared: the mono pile, the tripod and the jacket support structure typologies.

Structural performance of unprotected concrete-filled steel hollow sections in fire: A review and meta-analysis of available test data

  • Concrete filled steel hollow structural sections (CFSs) are an efficient, sustainable, and attractive option for both ambient temperature and fire resistance design of columns in multi-storey buildings and are becoming increasingly common in modern construction practice around the world. Whilst the design of these sections at ambient temperatures is reasonably well understood, and models to predict the strength and failure modes of these elements at ambient temperatures correlate well with observations from tests, this appears not to be true in the case of fire resistant design. This paper reviews available data from furnace tests on CFS columns and assesses the statistical confidence in available fire resistance design models/approaches used in North America and Europe. This is done using a meta-analysis comparing the available experimental data from large-scale standard fire tests performed around the world against fire resistance predictions from design codes. It is shown that available design approaches carry a very large uncertainty of prediction, suggesting that they fail to properly account for fundamental aspects of the underlying thermal response and/or structural mechanics during fire. Current North American fire resistance design approaches for CFS columns are shown to be considerably less conservative, on average, than those used in Europe.
