The aim of this study is to evaluate the ability of target localizations of Leksell GammaPlan(LGP) in Gamma Knife Subthalamotomy(or Pallidotomy, Thalamotomy) of functional diseases. To evaluate the accuracy of LGP's location settings, the difference Δr of the target coordinates calculated by LGP (or LSP) and author's algorithm was reviewed for 10 patients who underwent Deep Brain Stimulation(DBS) surgery. Δr ranged from 0.0244663 mm to 0.107961 mm. The average of Δr was 0.054398 mm. Transformation matrix between stereotactic space and brain atlas space was calculated using PseudoInverse or Singular Value Decomposition of Mathematica to determine the positional relationship between two coordinate systems. Despite the precise frame positioning, the misalignment of yaw from -3.44739 degree to 1.82243 degree, pitch from -4.57212 degree to 0.692063 degree, and rolls from -6.38239 degree to 7.21426 degree appeared. In conclusion, a simple in-house algorithm was used to test the accuracy for location settings of LGP(or LSP) in Gamma Knife platform and the possibility for Gamma Knife Subthalamotomy. The functional diseases can be treated with Gamma Knife Radiosurgery with safety and efficacy. In the future, the proposed algorithm for target localizations' QA will be a great contributor to movement disorders' treatment of several Gamma Knife Centers.

Abalone, a marine organism inhabiting the west coast of Korea, has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, and is a resource with potential to be used in various industries such as antibiotic development and cosmetic raw materials. In this study, we chose abalone among various marine lives on the west coast. Antibacterial peptide (AMP) was separated from abalone and its derivative Ab4-7 was identified and its physiological activity was studied. The treatment of Ab4-7 in inflammatory RAW 264.7 to check the anti-inflammatory efficacy nhibited inflammatory cytokines, TLR4, TNF-α, IL-1β, COX-2, and iNOS and increased mRNA manifestation of HO-1, genes related to antioxidants. Based on the strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of Ab4-7, the effects of Ab4-7 in the inflammatory RAW 264.7 cells were identified through RT-PCR, which regulates the gene Matrix Metalloproteinase (MMPs) that induces a variety of inflammatory skin diseases by engaging in the decomposition of the extrocellular matrix metalloproteinase (ECM). Taken together, it is concluded that Ab4-7 has a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect and can be used as a functional material for various inflammatory skin disease treatments by controlling the genes associated with matrix metalloproteinase (MMPs).
BACKGROUND: In recent years, studies on microplastics have focused on their decomposition in the ocean. However, no studies have been reported on the interaction between microplastics and metal ions in aqueous solutions. Therefore, this study was conducted to evaluate the adsorption capacity of cadmium(Cd) by polypropylene (PP) in aqueous solution. METHODS AND RESULTS: Cadmium adsorption characteristics of PP in aqueous solution were evaluated through various conditions including initial Cd concentration(1.25-25 mg/L), contact time(0.5-24 h), initial pH(2-6) and temperature($20-50^{\circ}C$). Cadmium adsorption fit on PP was well described by Freundlich isotherm model with adsorption capacity(K) of 0.028. The adsorption amount of Cd by PP increased with increasing contact time, indicating that adsorption of PP by Cd was dominantly influenced by contact time. Especially, the removal efficiency of Cd by PP was highest at high temperature. However, the surface functional groups of PP before and after adsorption of Cd were similar, suggesting that adsorption of Cd by PP is not related to surface functional groups. CONCLUSION: Our study suggests that PP affects the behavior of Cd in aqueous solution. However, in order to clarify the specific relationship between microplastics and metal ions, mechanism research should be carried out.

The physical and chemical properties of the dried low rank coals (LRCs) before and after the surface treatment using ozone and ammonia were characterized in this study. The contents of moisture, volatiles, fixed carbon and ash consisting of dried LRCs before the surface treatment were about 2.0, 44.8, 44.9 and 8.9%, respectively. Also, it was composed of carbon of 62.66%, hydrogen of 4.33%, nitrogen of 0.94%, oxygen of 27.01% and sulfur of 0.09%. The dried LRCs was surface-treated with the various dry methods using gases such as ozone at room temperature, ammonia at $200^{\circ}C$ and then the dried LRCs before and after the surface treatment were characterized by the various analysis methods such as FT-IR, TGA, proximate and elemental analysis, caloric value, ignition test, adsorption of $H_2O$ and $NH_3-TPD$. As a result, the oxygen content increased and the calorific value, ignition temperature and the contents of carbon and hydrogen relatively decreased because the oxygen-contained functional groups were additionally generated by the surface oxidation with ozone which plays a role as an oxidant. Also, its $H_2O$ adsorption ability got higher because the hydrophilic oxygen-contained functional groups were additionally generated by the surface oxidation with ozone. On the other hand, it was confirmed that the dried LRCs after the surface treatment with $NH_3$ at $200^{\circ}C$ have the decreased oxygen content, but the increased calorific value, ignition temperature and contents of carbon and hydrogen because of the decomposition of oxygen-contained functional groups the on the surface. In addition, the $H_2O$ adsorption ability was lowered bucause the surface of the dried LRCs might be hydrophobicized by the loss of the hydrophilic oxygen-contained functional groups. It was concluded that the various physico-chemical properties of the dried LRCs can be changed by the surface treatment.
In this work, we have prepared organophilic MMT having thermal stability by ion exchange reaction of various aromatic ammonium salts with MMT containing sodium ion. The organic modifiers having alkyl side chains and amine functional group were successfully synthesized by effectively introducing the surfaces of MMT via ion exchange reaction to form organophilic MMTs with a view to improve the reactivity and thermal stability. The WAXD patterns of organophilic MMT showed the more increased gallery spacing by $3.3{\AA}$ than that of the pristine MMT and also the onset of initial decomposition of organophilic MMT was $275^{\circ}C$ as determined by a thermogravimetric analysis. The polyimide (PI) nanocomposite films based on poly(amic acid) and organophilic MMT were prepared by a solution blending followed by cyclodehydration reaction. We have investigated the dispersity of organophilic MMTs in PI matrix by using WAXD and the effect of the organophilic MMT content on the mechanical properties of PI nanocomposite films was studied.
Packaging of export cut lilies reduces physical damage during distribution like dropping, shock, vibration, compression and serves to protect from necrosis, microbial contamination and decomposition. Study on which packaging materials must be selected is necessary because it serves to direct effect maintaining quality and the degree of freshness. newspaper, perforated OPP film, Oriented Nylon film (ON), punched OPP film, OPP films are used in this study. Plant senescence of lilies was happened rapidly during storage at $25^{\circ}C$ rather than at $5^{\circ}C$. Also, water absorption, fresh weight at during storage $25^{\circ}C$ rather than at $5^{\circ}C$ In addition, fresh weight of lilies storage at $25^{\circ}C$ appears higher than at $5^{\circ}C$ all of the packaging materials except OPP because water absorption of lily storage at $5^{\circ}C$ appears higher than at $25^{\circ}C$, thereby suppressing the fresh weight reducing Also, effect on biological activity of lilies from shape of packaging material appears higher during storage at $5^{\circ}C$ than at $25^{\circ}C$. Compared with each packaging materials, newspaper packaging is the smallest effect on changes in biological activity of cut lilies during storage. Thus, the results demonstrate that flowering date are affected mainly by the storage temperature rather than packaging materials.

The higher valence state of iron i.e., Fe(VI) was employed for the treatment of Cu(II)-EDTA in the aqueous/waste waters. The ferrate(VI) was prepared through wet oxidation of Fe(III) by sodium hypochlorite. The purity of prepared Fe(VI) was above 93%. The stability of Fe(VI) solution decreased as solution pH decreased through self decomposition. The reduction of Fe(VI) was obtained by using the UV-Visible measurements. The dissociation of Cu(II)-EDTA complex through oxidation of EDTA using Fe(VI) and subsequent treatment of organic matter and metal ions by Fe(III) reduced from Fe(VI) in bench-scale of continuous flow reactor were studied. The removal efficiencies of copper were 69% and 79% in pH control basin and reactor, respectively, at 120 minutes as retention time. In addition, Cu(II)-EDTA in the reactor was decomplexated more than 80% after 120 minutes as retention time. From this work, a continuous treatment process for the wastewater containing metal and EDTA by employing Fe(VI) as muluti-functional agent was developed.

Acetylated Cellulose Ether (ACE), cellulose-based amphiphilic polymer with hydrophilic and hydrophobic, was synthesized and investigated in terms of its solubility and wettability for organic solvents and water. Acetyl group was substituted to the cellulose ether in a hydrophilic polymer by esterification. As a result of FT-IR, the peak corresponding to the hydroxyl group decreased and carboxyl acid peak increased with increasing reaction time and temperature, which signified the increase in the degree of acetylation of the ACE. There were similar thermal decomposition behaviors before and after esterification reaction until $800^{\circ}C$ so that the reaction occurred without significant structural changes of cellulose backbones. The solubility parameter of the ACE had a range of 18.5~26.4, and its viscosity and turbidity were controlled according to the solubility parameter of organic solvents. The ACE showed the hydrophilicity because the contact angle of the ACE was higher than the cellulose ether. These results confirmed that the ACE had the hydrophobicity and hydrophilicity due to the ether which was glucosidic bonding between the glucose units and un-reacted hydroxyl functional groups in the ACE.

Properties and chemical bonding of wood charcoal were investigated to understand the chemistry occurring in wood carbonization. From the pH changes of wood charcoal, it is revealed that it becomes acidic to weakly basic for charcoal carbonized at about $300^{\circ}C$, whereas it turns to basic at higher carbonization temperature higher than $600^{\circ}C$. Also, the ratio of carbon atoms in the charcoal was increased with increasing the carbonization temperature, while those of oxygen and hydrogen atoms. This tendency was significant when the carbonization temperature was increased up to $600^{\circ}C$ and the ratio changes of the atoms became stable at above $600^{\circ}C$. In the changes of chemical bonding, the ratio of C-C bonding was increased and those of C-O-H and C-O-R bonding was decreased significantly. It is considered that bondings connected to oxygen atoms tends to be broken, and the ratio of C-C bonding increased. Consequently, it is expected that this change may causes occurrence of new functional groups. In addition to that, it seems to be that the chemical bondings undergo the partial decomposition, formation, and recombination steps, Because ratio of C=O bonding tended to be increased or decreased by increasing the carbonization temperature. This understanding of chemical bond changes in charcoal can be a compensative consideration on the knowledges made only by physical parameters in the properties of micro-pore which has limited to explain the phenomenon. Also, it is considered that this can be treated as a basic knowledge for upgrading and development of use of wood charcoal.
In this paper, poly (dimethyl siloxane) (PDMS) was modified using electron beam irradiation and its property was investigated. PDMS sheets prepared using a conventional thermal curing method were irradiated by electron beams at absorbed doses between 20 and 200 kGy and their properties were characterized using swelling degree and contact angle measurements, universal testing machine (UTM), thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), and X -ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS). The results of the swelling degree measurements, UTM, and TGA revealed that the swelling degree of the irradiated PDMS sheets was reduced down to 24% in comparison to the control sheet, and their compression strength and thermal decomposition temperature increased up to maximum 2.5 MFa and $10^{\circ}C$, respectively, due to the increase in crosslinking density by irradiation. In addition, on the basis of the results of contact angle measurements and XPS, the wettability of the PDMS sheets was enhanced up to 24% owing to the generation of hydrophilic functional groups on the PDMS surface by oxidation during electron beam irradiation.
