The characteristics of liquefied butane spray are expected to be different from conventional diesel fuel spray, because a kind of flash boiling spray is expected when the back pressure is below the saturated vapor pressure of the butane(0.23MPa at 298K). The ambient pressure was held at a pressure above(0.37MPa) and below(0.15MPa) the fuel vapor pressure. The axial velocities, radial velocities, and size distributions in butane sprays were measured with PDPA(Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer) system. The PDPA measurement showed a smaller SMD at the 0.15MPa chamber pressure, compared to the 0.37MPa case. Log-hyperbolic density function for the droplets size distribution can be fitted to the experimental results of a liquefied butane spray.

The purpose of this paper is to overview Korean MPA, to figure out the problems of current system and to give policy suggestions for effective management for Korean MPAs. Results show that different types of MPAs are established based on different legislations but there is no effective control system for integrated management. In addition, Korean government can not use the function of MPAs due to the insufficient regulation for harmful activities within MPAs. Finally, this paper recommends four policy suggestions for effective management of Korean MPAs; legal requirements of MPA designation, establishment of national authority for MPA management, application of no-take MPAs for fisheries management and establishment of MPA network.

Theoretical consideration on the combustion behavior of nano-aluminum and water mixture was conducted. The regions are divided into; 1)water+aluminum 2)steam+aluminum 3)reaction zone. Latent heat of vaporization was considered as a function of pressure in case of phase change of water. Also, pressure exponent was studied of various sized nano particles within the range of 0.1MPa ~ 10MPa.

It is well-known that the corrosive behavior of PMC (polymer matrix composite) structure is much better than the metal structure in the marine environment. The understanding of fracture behavior of PMC in the deep-sea environment is essential to expand its use in the marine industry. For a present study, fracture tests have been performed under four different pressure levels such as 0.1 MPa, 100 MPa, 200 MPa, and 270 MPa using the seawater-absorbed carbon/epoxy composite samples. Fracture toughness was determined from the work factor approach as a function of hydrostatic pressure. It was found that fracture behavior was a linear elastic for all pressure levels. The fracture toughness increased with increasing pressure.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the spalling resistance of super high strength concrete with polypropylene(PP) fiber after 3 hours unstressed fire test. Tests have been carried out as a function of PP fiber quantity and concrete strength(100MPa, 150MPa). The results indicate that the spalling resistance will be achieved in suitable amount of PP fiber.
Rough rice is subjected to a series of static and dynamic forces during mechanical harvesting, handling and processing operations. The mechanical properties such as bioyield point, compressive strength, and deformations at the bioyield point and rupture point are important engineering data needed to develop processing machines and to determine reasonable operating conditions for these machines. The objectives of this study were to determine the mechanical properties of the rough rice kernel at loading rate of 0.664 mm/min and 1.673 mm/min and at various moisture contents, and to examine the effect of the moisture content and the loading rate on these mechanical properties. The follwing results were obtained from the study. 1. Bioyield point, rupture point, bioyield strength and ultimate strength of the rough rice kernel generally decreased in magnitude with an increase in moisture content. A little larger values of these mechanical properties were obtained at the higher loading rate. The rough rice variety and the loading rate affected significantly these mechanical properties at low moisture content, but not at the higher moisture levels. 2. Bioyield point of the sample grains varied from 20 to 80 N, and rupture point varied from 45 to 130N. Bioyield point for Japonica-type rough rice was a little higher than that for Indica-type rough rice, but there were little differnces in rupture point between two types of rough rice. 3. Bioyield strength and ultimate strength of the Japonica-type rough rice varied from 10 MPa. to 39 MPa., and from 13 MPa. to 45 MPa. respectively. Those of the Indica-type rough rice varied from 12 MPa. to 42 MPa., and from 15 MPa. to 53 MPa. respectively. 4. Deformations at bioyield point and rupture point ranged from 0.18 mm/min to 0.26 mm, and from 0.28 mm to 0.53 mm respectively. These deformations decreased with an increase in moisture content up to moisture content of approximately 17% (w.b.) and increased again thereafter. 5. Regression equations were developed to predict these mechanical properties for the rough rice kernel as a function of moisture content.

In order to develop stretchable substrates for wearable packaging applications, the variation behavior of elastic modulus was evaluated for transparent PDMS Sylgard 184 and black PDMS Sylgard 170 as a function of the base/curing agent mixing ratio. Both for Sylgard 184 and Sylgard 170, the true elastic modulus evaluated on a true stress-true strain curve was higher more than two times compared to the engineering elastic modulus obtained from an engineering stres-sengineering strain curve, and their difference became larger with increasing the stiffness of the PDMS. Sylgard 184 exhibited a maximum engineering elastic modulus of 1.74 MPa and a maximum true elastic modulus of 3.57 MPa at the base/curing agent mixing ratio of 10. A maximum engineering elastic modulus of 1.51 MPa and a maximum true elastic modulus of 3.64 MPa were obtained for Sylgard 170 at the base/curing agent mixing ratio of 2.

In order to apply to stretchable electronics packaging, locally stiffness-variant stretchable substrates consisting of island structure were fabricated by combining two polydimethylsiloxane elastomers of different stiffnesses and their elastic moduli were characterized as a function of the width of the high-stiffness island. The low-stiffness substrate matrix and the embedded high-stiffness island of the stretchable substrate were formed by using Dragon Skin 10 of the elastic modulus of 0.09 MPa and Sylgard 184 of the elastic modulus of 2.15 MPa, respectively. A stretchable substrate was fabricated to be a configuration of 6.5-cm length, 0.4-cm thickness, and 2.5-cm width, in which a high-stiffness Sylgard 184 island, of 4-cm length, 0.2-cm thickness, and 0.5~1.5-cm width, was embedded. The elastic modulus of a stretchable substrate was increased from 0.09 MPa to 0.16 MPa by incorporating the Sylgard 184 island of 0.5-cm width to Dragon Skin 10 substrate matrix. The elastic modulus was further improved to 0.18 MPa and 0.2 MPa with increasing the Sylgard 184 island width to 1.0 cm and 1.5 cm, which were in good agreement with values estimated by combining the Voigt structure of isostrain and the Reuss structure of isostress.
To estimate the true wear rate of polyethylene acetabular cups used in total hip arthroplasty, the dynamic compressive creep deformation of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) was quantified as a function of time, load amplitude, and radial location of the specimen in the extruded rod stock. These data were also compared with the creep behavior of polyethylene observed under static loading. Total creep strains under dynamic loading were only 64%, 70%, and 61% of the total creep strains under static loading at the same maximum pressures of 2 MPa,4 MPa, and 8 MPa, respectively. Specimens cut from the periphery of the rod stock demonstrated more creep than those cut from the center when they were compressed in a direction parallel to the extrusion direction (vertical loading) whereas the opposite was observed when specimens were compressed in a direction perpendicular to the extrusion direction (transverse loading). These findings show that creep deformation of UHMWPE depends upon the orientation of the crystalline lamellae.
