  • In this paper, we use time-frequency localization analysis method to analize the target function and the area of the target space. When we analize the function with the time and frequency axis simultaneously, the characteristic of the function is shown more precisely and the area is covered by a certain block. After we analize the target function in the time-frequency space, we can decide the activation functions and compose the hidden layer of the RBFN by choosing the radial basis function which can represent the characteristic of the target function, RBFN made by this method, designs the good structure proper to the target problem because we can decide the number of hidden node first.

  • This paper proposes a new measure of cost function ruggedness in local optimization with DEAS. DEAS is a computational optimization method developed since 2002 and has been applied to various engineering fields with success. Since DEAS is a recent optimization method which is rarely introduced in Korean, this paper first provides a brief overview and description of DEAS. In minimizing cost function with this non-gradient method, information on function shape measured automatically will enhance search capability. Considering the search strategies of DEAS are well designed with binary matrix structures, analysis of search behaviors will produce beneficial shape information. This paper deals with a simple quadratic function contained with various magnitudes of noise, and DEAS finds local minimum yielding ruggedness measure of given cost function. The proposed shape information will be directly used in improving DEAS performance in future work.

  • In this study, the optimal design of the multi-cavity mold layout and packing pressure for the automobile TCU connector cover is determined based on the injection molding analysis and the desirability function method for multi-characteristic optimization. The design characteristics to be optimized are the warpage and sink marks of the product, the scrap of the feed system, and the clamping force. The optimal design is determined by performing injection molding analysis and desirability analysis for design alternatives defined by a complete combination of five mold layouts and six-level packing pressure. The optimal design shows that the desirability values for individual characteristics are quite high and balanced, and the resulting values of individual characteristics are satisfactorily low.

  • Fuel sloshing in a vehicle fuel tank generates a reluctant low frequency noise, called slosh noise. To reduce slosh noise, whilst many approaches have used the Computational Fluid Dynamics method to first identify fuel behavior in a fuel tank, this paper applies the Transfer Path Analysis method. It is to find contribution of each transfer path from noise transfer function, vibration transfer function and acceleration. Then the final goal is to attenuate slosh noise by controlling them. To this aim, two types of models are studied. One is the decoupled model in which some of connection points of the fuel tank with the vehicle underbody are separated. The other is the modified model which is created by changing noise transfer function and acceleration from the original model. The analysis and validation test results show that the transfer path analysis can be an approach to enhancing slosh noise.

  • This paper presents a method for the identification of vibration sources in a multiple input system where the input source may be coherent with each other. Using multi-dimensional spectral analysis, it is found that one of the most significant vibration sources of a gasoline engine is the pressure variation within the cylinder. In this analysis the concepts of residual spectral analysis and the partial coherence function are applied. Finally, the overall levels of the acceleration on the cylinder block obtained by multi-dimensional spectral analysis are compared with those by the frequency response function approach. The experimental results have shown a good agreement with the results calculated by this method the input sources are coherent strongly each other.

  • Fuzzy theory provides an intelligence treatment model for judgement about information when it needs a solution or a decision making about vague problems. Therefore, fuzzy theory is used for appropriate evaluation and decision on obscure information as human's emotion in human factors, In previous study, fuzzy membership function is defined for judgement infOlmation as human's emotion then ultimate results are deducted through fuzzy inference model. This method uses general CWTent through literature review or max, min and average as representative statics value about considering variables. But, this method makes away with nonlinear's or inegular's factors of human sensibility. Accordingly, application of this method leads to considerable loss of information in the ultimate evaluation. For that reason, this method has a limitation in objective evaluation of human factors. So, this study focuses on development of fuzzy membership function, which evaluates human's emotion or feeling accurately and objectively. We used the regression analysis and reasoned a fuzzy membership function about the relation of the variables. Then we verified the adequacy with the reliability through the experiment after this.

  • In this work transfer function synthesis method based on FRF data of each substructure is investigated for a complex structure composed of many substructures. Though the transfer function synthesis method has superiority to analyze the characteristics of interfaces among substructures effectively, many problems arise in the computation process, especially matrix inversion process. Due to computational problems, the error between the data obtained by test and the predictions through computations is inevitable. So in this paper, computational aspects in the transfer function synthesis method are examined through a steering system problem of passenger car. For the FBS method, frequency response functions of 3 substructures are measured experimentally. Effects of several parameters such as matrix inversion method, connection conditions between substructures and off-diagonal terms on system response are studied numerically.

  • In stochastic analysis, the randomness of the structural parameters is taken into consideration and the response variability is obtained in addition to the conventional (mean) response. In the present paper the structural response variability of plate structure is calculated using the weighted integral method and is compared with the results obtained by different methods. The stochastic field is assumed to be normally distributed and to have the homogeneity. The decomposition of strain-displacement matrix enabled us to extend the formulation to the stochastic analysis with the quadratic elements in the weighted integral method. A new auto-correlation function is derived considering the uncertainty of plate thickness. The results obtained in the numerical examples by two different methods, i.e., weighted integral method and Monte Carlo simulation, are in a close agreement. In the case of the variable plate thickness, the obtained results are in good agreement with those of Lawrence and Monte Carlo simulation.

  • The quantile residual life function has been effectively used to interpret results from the analysis of the proportional hazards model for censored survival data; however, the quantile residual life function is not always estimable with currently available semi-parametric regression methods in the presence of heavy censoring. A parametric regression approach may circumvent the difficulty of heavy censoring, but parametric assumptions on a baseline hazard function can cause a potential bias. This article proposes a Bayesian semi-parametric regression approach for inference on an unknown baseline hazard function while adjusting for available covariates. We consider a model-based approach but the proposed method does not suffer from strong parametric assumptions, enjoying a closed-form specification of the parametric regression approach without sacrificing the flexibility of the semi-parametric regression approach. The proposed method is applied to simulated data and heavily censored survival data to estimate various quantile residual lifetimes and adjust for important prognostic factors.
