Aiming at high-power and long-pulse operation up to 1000 s, some improvements have been made for both 2.45 GHz and 4.6 GHz lower hybrid (LH) systems during the recent 5 years. At first, the guard limiters of the LH antennas with graphite tiles were upgraded to tungsten, the most promising material for plasma facing components in nuclear fusion devices. These new guard limiters can operate at a peak power density of 12.9 MW/m2. Strong hot spots were usually observed on the old graphite limiters when 4.6 GHz system operated with power >2.0 MW [B. N. Wan et al., Nucl. Fusion 57 (2017) 102019], leading to a reduction of the maximum power capability. With the new limiters, 4.6 GHz LH system, the main current drive (CD) and electron heating tool for EAST, can be operated with power >2.5 MW routinely. Long-pulse operation up to 100 s with 4.6 GHz LH power of 2.4 MW was achieved in 2021 and the maximal temperature on the guard limiters measured by an infrared (IR) camera was about 540 ℃, much below the permissible value of tungsten material (~1200 ℃). A discharge with a duration of 1056 s was achieved and the 4.6 GHz LH energy injected into the plasma was up to 1.05 GJ. Secondly, the fully-active-multijunction (FAM) launcher of 2.45 GHz system was upgraded to a passive-active-multijunction (PAM), for which the density of optimum coupling was relatively low (below the cut-off value). Good coupling with reflection coefficient ~3% has been achieved with plasma-antenna distance up to 11 cm for the new PAM. Finally, in order to eliminate the effect of ion cyclotron range of frequencies (ICRF) wave on 4.6 GHz LH wave coupling, the location of the ICRF launcher was changed to a port that is located 157.5° toroidally from the 4.6 GHz LH system and is not magnetically connected.
A fundamental function of court sport shoes has been considered as the protection of human feet from unexpected injuries. But, recently its role for improving the playing competency is being regarded as a more important function. In connection with this situation, intensive efforts are being world-widely forced on the development of court sport shoes proving the excellent playing competency, by taking kinesiology and biomechanics into consideration. However, the success of this goal depends definitely on the shoes design based upon the reliable evaluation of shoes functional parts. This paper addresses the application of finite element method to the evaluation of landing impact force of court sport shoes. In order to reflect the coupling effect between leg and shoes accurately and effectively, we construct a fully coupled shoes-leg FEM model which does not rely on the independent experimental data any more. Through the numerical experiments, we assess the reliability of the coupled FEM model by comparing with the experimental results and investigate the landing impact characteristics of court sport shoes.
A vorticity-based method for the numerical solution of the two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations is presented. The governing equations for vorticity, velocity and pressure variables are expressed in an integro-differential form. The global coupling between the vorticity and the pressure boundary conditions is fully considered in an iterative procedure when numerical schemes are employed. The finite volume method of the second order TVD scheme is implemented to integrate the vorticity transport equation with the dynamic vorticity boundary condition. The velocity field is obtained by using the Biot-Savart integral. The Green's scalar identity is used to solve the total pressure in an integral approach similar to the surface panel methods which have been well established for potential flow analysis. The present formulation is validated by comparison with data from the literature for the two-dimensional cavity flow driven by shear in a square cavity. We take two types of the cavity now: (ⅰ) driven by non-uniform shear on top lid and body forces for which the exact solution exists, and (ⅱ) driven only by uniform shear (of the classical type).
Wireless power transmission technology has been studied variety. Recently, wireless power transmission technology used by resonance and magnetic induction field is applied to various fields. However, magnetic resonance and inductive coupling are have drawbacks - power transmission distance is short. Microwave transmission and accept techniques have been developed to overcome short distance. However, improvement in efficiency is required. This paper, propose a high-efficiency microwave energy acceptor IC(EAIC). Suggested EAIC is consists of RF-DC converter and DC-DC converter. Wide Input power range is -15 dBm ~ 20 dBm. And output voltage is boosted up to 5.5 V by voltage boost-up circuit. EAIC can keep the output voltage constant. Available efficiency of RF-DC converter is 95.5 % at 4 dBm input. And DC-DC efficiency is 94.79 % at 1.1 mA load current. Fully EAIC efficiency is 90.5 %.
This work investigates the characteristics of brain interactions of experienced Zen-Buddhist practitioners by obtaining multichannel EEG (electroencephalogram) data. Brain interactions were compared among three phases-40-minute meditation (M), 5-minute Chakra-focusing practice (Z) and rest with closed eyes (R). The similarity index S, developed in nonlinear dynamical system theory, was employed to measure the degree of possibly asymmetric coupling. Meditators exhibited, overall, stronger interactions among multiple cortical areas in meditation stages M and Z than in the R state. This enhancement was greater in the M stage when the meditator was accompanied by a thought-free and fully consciousness state. In the high-frequency band (>13Hz), the interdependence was also higher in both meditation stages than at baseline rest. However, the interaction strength, especially in the posterior regions, was greatest in the Z stage, which involved internal attention. Few electrode pairs were observed with significant pair-wise asymmetry in the Z state. The similarity is a possible characteristic of dense reciprocal and strong mutual interactions between multiple cortical areas during meditation - especially in the Z state in the high-frequency band. These results demonstrate that profound Zen meditation induces various dynamic states in different phases of meditation, possibly reflected by nonlinear interdependence measure.

This paper proposes a coordinated control of the reactive power between the STATCOMs (static synchronous compensators) and the grid-side converters (GSC) of wind farms equipped with PMSGs (permanent-magnet synchronous generators), by which the voltage fluctuations at the PCC (point of common coupling) are mitigated in the steady state. In addition, the level of voltage sags is reduced during grid faults. To do this, the GSC and the STATCOM supply reactive power to the grid coordinately, where the GSCs are fully utilized to provide the reactive power for the grid prior to the STATCOM operation. For this, the GSC capability of delivering active and reactive power under variable wind speed conditions is analyzed in detail. In addition, the PCC voltage regulation of the power systems integrated with large wind farms are analyzed for short-term and long-term operations. With this coordinated control scheme, the low power capacity of STATCOMs can be used to achieve the low-voltage ride-through (LVRT) capability of the wind farms during grid faults. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy has been verified by PSCAD/EMTDC simulation results.

This paper presents reference designs for vapor-cooled HTS/Copper leads rated at 25 kA and 40 kA and that satisfy a protection criterion. Each HTS section is cooled by the effluent helium vapor boiling from a 4.2-K bath. Each HTS section is based on a design concept in which a short portion of its warm end (77.3 K) operates in the current-sharing mode; such operation results in a considerable saving for HTS materials required in the HTS section. Two designs of "fully superconducting" vapor-cooled HTS sections, one rated at 25 kA and the other at 40 kA are also presented as comparison bases for the new HTS sections. Each warm end of HTS sections is coupled to an optimal vapor-cooled copper lead rated at the same current as that for the HTS section. The extra coolant required at 77.3 K at the coupling station, an optimal length of the copper section will be shorter than that optimized for helium-vapor cooling between 4.2 K and room temperature.mperature.
A FA-FD hybrid method, developed for solving three-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, is applied to calculate three-dimensional laminar flows through a square duct with a 90° bend. The method discretizes the convective terms in the primary flow direction with 3rd-order upwind finite-differences and the convective and diffusive terms in the transverse directions with the two-dimensional finite analytic method. The non-staggered grid system is used and the pressure-velocity coupling is achieved by a global iteration procedure based on the PISO algorithm. Detailed comparisons between the computed solutions and the available experimental data are given mainly for the velocity distributions at cross-sections in a 90° bend of a square duct with both fully developed and developing entry flows. Although the computational result shows generally a good agreement with the experimental data, there are some significant discrepancies underlining the necessity of more accurate numerical methods as well as reliable experimental data for their validation.
The computations of chemically reacting laminar and turbulent flows are performed using the preconditioned Navier-Stokes solver coupled with turbulent transport and multi-species equations. A low-Reynolds number $k-\varepsilon$ turbulence model proposed by Chien is used. The presence of the turbulent kinetic energy tenn in the momentum equation can materially affect the overall stability of the fluids-turbulence system. Because of this coupling effect, a fully coupled formulation is desirable and this approach is taken in the present study. Choi and Merkle's preconditioning technique is used to overcome the convergence difficulties occurred at low speed flows. The numerical scheme used for the present study is based on the implicit upwind ADI algorithm and is validated through the comparisons of computational and experimental results for laminar methane-air diffusion flame and $ H_2/O_2$ reacting turbulent shear flow. Preconditioning formulation shows better convergence characteristics than that of non-preconditioned system by approximately five times as much.
