In spite of fast growing of prediction codes, there is still not negligible uncertainty in their results. This uncertainty affects on the turbine structural design and power production prediction. With the growing size of wind turbine, reducing this uncertainty is becoming one of critical issues for high performance and efficient wind turbine design. In this respect, there are international efforts to evaluate and tune prediction codes of wind turbine. As the reference data for this purpose, field test data is not appropriate because of its uncontrollable wind characteristics and its inherent uncertainty. Wind tunnel can provide controllable wind. For this reason, NREL has done the full scale test of the 10m turbine at NASA-Ames. With this reference data, a blind comparison has been done with participation of 18 organizations with 19 modeling tools. The results were not favorable. In Europe, a similar project is going on. Nine organizations from five countries are participating in the MEXICO project to do full scale wind tunnel tests and calculation with prediction codes. In this study. these two projects were reviewed in respect of wind tunnel test and its contribution. As a conclusion, it is suggested that scale model wind tunnel tests can be a complementary tool to calculation codes which were evaluated worse than expected.

A new full scale testing apparatus generically named the Wall of Wind (WoW) has been built by the researchers at the International Hurricane Research Center (IHRC) at Florida International University (FIU). WoW is capable of testing single story building models subjected up to category 3 hurricane wind speeds. Depending on the relative model and WoW wind field sizes, testing may entail blockage issues. In addition, the proximity of the test building to the wind simulator may also affect the aerodynamic data. This study focuses on the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) assessment of the effects on the quality of the aerodynamic data of (i) blockage due to model buildings of various sizes and (ii) wind simulator proximity for various distances between the wind simulator and the test building. The test buildings were assumed to have simple parallelepiped shapes. The computer simulations were performed under both finite WoW wind-field conditions and in an extended Atmospheric Boundary Layer (ABL) wind flow. Mean pressure coefficients for the roof and the windward and leeward walls served as measures of the blockage and wind simulator proximity effects. The study uses the commercial software FLUENT with Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes equations and a Renormalization Group (RNG) k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. The results indicated that for larger size test specimens (i.e. for cases where the height of test specimen is larger than one third of the wind field height) blockage correction may become necessary. The test specimen should also be placed at a distance greater than twice the height of the test specimen from the fans to reduce proximity effect.

The experimental results of the model tests for the twin propeller cavitation noise are presented. The model test was carried out by means of procedure of noise measurement followed by the signal processing and full-scale extrapolation. In order to convert the measured sound pressure level into the sound source level, transfer function measurements for three conditions were performed according to the combination of locations and number of virtual sources. White noise and LFM signal were used as a source signals to examine the influence of the input signal. For the twin propellers, 5 transfer functions were defined and the results were discussed. Cavitation noise measurement tests were performed similarly to the transfer function measurement test. Noise source localization analysis was performed to confirm the test effectiveness. It was confirmed that the source level of the twin propeller can be estimated reliably by using transfer function corrections. Finally, the model test results were converted into full-scale by applying the ITTC '87 model-ship scaling raw, and the validity of the model test was confirmed by comparison with the full-scale measurement result.
Purpose: This study was to test the effects of a full body massage on labor pain and delivery stress reaction for primipara during labor. Method: This study employed a quasi- experimental method(nonequivalent control group, pre-post test design). The subjects of this study were 57 primipara hospitalized at the U OB & GYN hospital in Inchon from November 1. 2001 to July 31, 2002. 28 women were assigned to the experimental group and 29 to the control group. The experimental group was given 20 minutes full body massage for each of three delivery phases. The control group was given conventional delivery care. The levels of labor pain were measured by the Visual Analogue Scale and the expression scores of the labor pain and the levels of delivery stress reaction were measured by pulse rate, respiration rate, and blood pressure, and State-Anxiety Scale. Data were analyzed using the repeated measures analysis of covariance(ANCOVA), t-test, $X^2$- test, simple ANCOVA with SPSS program. Result: There was no interaction effect between time and group(F=.370, p=.693), but significant time effects were found for subjective labor pain(F=3.840, p=.028). There was no interaction effect between time and group(F=.112, p=.894), but significant group effects were found for objective labor pain(F=12.299, p=.001). There was no interaction effect between time and group for PR(F=.172, p=.843), RR(F=.626, p=.539), SBP(F=.089, p=.915), DBP(F=.748, p=.479), but significant group effects were found for SBP(F=7.547, p=.008). The level of status anxiety of the experimental group was significantly lower than the control group(F=11.787, p=.001). Conclusion: This study showed that the full body massage has partially positive effect on labor pain and delivery stress reaction. Therefore this study suggested that the full body massage might be used clinically to help primipara during labor.

This paper documents the result of a preliminary analysis on the influence of hull-ice friction coefficient on model resistance and power predictions and their correlation to full-scale measurements. The study is based on previous model-scale/full-scale correlations performed on the National Research Council - Ocean, Coastal, and River Engineering Research Center's (NRC/OCRE-RC) model test data. There are two objectives for the current study: (1) to validate NRC/OCRE-RC's modeling standards in regarding to its practice of specifying a CFC (Correlation Friction Coefficient) of 0.05 for all its ship models; and (2) to develop a correction methodology for its resistance and propulsion predictions when the model is prepared with an ice friction coefficient slightly deviated from the CFC of 0.05. The mean CFC of 0.056 and 0.050 for perfect correlation as computed from the resistance and power analysis, respectively, have justified NRC/OCRE-RC's selection of 0.05 for the CFC of all its models. Furthermore, a procedure for minor friction corrections is developed.
Small and full scale model tests were performed to obtain the transient responses of shafts subjected to elastic impact by impact-echo test. Four end conditions of drilled shafts were considered: (1) free, (2) fixed, (3) rock-socketed, and (4) soft bottom. In small scale model tests, mock-up shafts were fabricated to simulate these four drilled shafts using poly-urethane and plastic material. Additionally, skin frictions between shaft and rock were changed to find out the effect of side contact on dynamic responses. All impact responses were tested in the air. Subsequently, full scale model tests were also carried out on concrete shafts that were in free and rock-socketed condition. The end conditions of the drilled shafts could be identified with good reliability by the waveforms from both small and full scale model tests. The results obtained in this study will provide an improved understanding of the impact responses for end conditions, especially for rock-socketed drilled shafts that are frequently designed and built in Korea.
The aluminum extruded sections are used to the light construction of the high speed rail vehicle structures. However, the research works on the crashworthy design of aluminum extruded sections are not published sufficiently. In this paper, the collapse characteristics of aluminum extruded sections are investigated by crush test and simulation. The scale model studies are also performed to predict the impact energy absorption characteristics of full scale model through axial crush test and simulation.

Generally, form factor is determined through ITTC method. Determining the form factor from ITTC method includes the assumption that the form factor of a full-scale ship is the same value as its model ship. In other words, the form factor is independent on Reynolds number. However, for the more appropriate prediction of the resistance performance of a full-scale ship, the form factor must be determined with the consideration of the variation attendant on Reynolds number. In this research, several Geosim ship models are adopted to investigate the scale effect, and correlation lines of form factor are improved to suggest the better extrapolation method for the prediction of the form factor of full-scale ship. The corrected form factors using the correlation lines are compared with those determined from the results of low-speed resistance tests. To consider the influence of hull form, the correlation lines are determined for the group of high-speed ships and the group of low-speed ships, respectively. The corrected form factors have shown good agreement among the prediction results from each Geosim ship model to the full-scale ship.

Investigation on operation of the test apparatus for the M4 semi-freejet tests with a full-scale vehicle model was carried out utilizing domestic facilities. An integrated design of the experimental apparatus and the vehicle model was obtained through iterative computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis. The test results showed that the M4 nozzle of the apparatus was fully expanded to provide required test conditions. It was also found that the intake of the vehicle model successfully started, and the corresponding shadowgraph images were recorded during the test. A variable nozzle of the model was set to adjust the back pressure of the model combustor, and wall-static pressures were measured to obtain the pressure distribution at the main locations of the model. The flame of torch ignitors and pilot fuel ignition were observed in a flame-holder of the combustor.

In this study, seismic response control performance of decentralized response-dependent MR damper which generates the control force using only the response of damper-installed floor, was experimentally investigated through the tests of a full-scale structure installed with large MR dampers. The performance of the decentralized control algorithm was compared to those of the centralized ones such as Lyapunov, modulated homogeneous friction, and clipped-optimal control. Hybrid mass damper were controlled to induce seismic response of the full-scale structure under El Centro earthquake. Experimental results indicated that the proposed decentralized MR damper provided superior or equivalent performance to centralized one in spite of using damper-installed floor response for calculating input voltage to MR damper.
