Modeling and Simulation of Combustion Chamber Test Facility Fuel Supply System (연소기 연소시험 설비 연료 공급 시스템 해석)

  • The propulsion system of space launch vehicle generates thrust by supplying oxidizer and fuel to combustion chamber. KSLV-II 2nd stage engine, currently under development by KARI, is to use liquid oxygen as a oxidizer and JET-A1 as a fuel. The 2nd stage pump-fed engine is mainly composed of combustion chamber, turbo-pump and engine supply system. To develop liquid propulsion engine, the development of combustion chamber must be preceded. For performance validation of the combustion chamber, the designed and manufactured combustion chamber should be tested in combustion chamber test facility (CCTF). The detailed design for the planned CCTF in Naro Space Center was conducted. The fuel supply system modeling using AMESim was performed based on the results of the detailed design, and the fuel supply characteristics was analyzed in this paper.

  • This paper presents on design factor considered in an altitude test cell facility to determine the best sizing to optimize exhaust diffuser pressure recovery and the exact cooling load required to be supplied under transient operation. Engine simulation was performed to analyse the exhaust gas temperature, exit mass flow rate, specific fuel consumption and exhaust velocity helpful in determining secondary mass air flow and the mixed air temperature entering the ejector. based on this, the amount of cooling load was deduced. It was found that improved pressure recovery reduces operational cost(air supply facility, cooling water).

  • A large amount of fuel is required for heating the agricultural facility house, and many farmhouses are experiencing the burden of heating costs due to the recent increase in fuel prices. This paper proposes a supply system that supports heating of agricultural facility houses located nearby by utilizing industrial chimney waste heat, and analyzes the application and effect of a heating cost reduction model. The system was designed based on the chimney waste heat system, and the facility house heating cost reduction model was applied and effect analysis was performed based on the proposed model. It was confirmed that the high-temperature waste heat from the chimney can be used to supply heating to facility houses in nearby farms. If heating is supplied to large-scale facility houses near industrial complexes, it is expected to contribute to improve productivity and competitiveness of domestic farms.

  • The fuel cell, a renewable energy facility, hasn t come into wide use to the public. However, the usefulness of it is so high through Supply Business called Green Home, general auxiliary Supply Business, obligation to supply renewable energy for public organizations, Building Certification System and compulsory quota of using renewable energy to power generating businesses, etc. Intial installation was supported by government and a local autonomous entities in case of home fuel cell. Cost-benefits of installing it in home are approximately from $1,000 to $2,500. As Korea applies a progressive tax scheme in home electricity, energy costs are associated with electricity consumption. We should contemplate ways to make effective use of additional waste heat because technology of fuel cell is kind of a cogeneration.

  • According to Electricity Acceleration Law of Rural Area recently, the needs for replacement of a small scale diesel power generation facility which supplied electricity to 10-50 households Remote Islands has been revealed due to high operating and maintenance cost of Diesel Power Generation. Optimization of electric power system for Small Remote Islands must be made considering the economics, reliability and stability as power sources and estimation of total construction cost of those power stations. For its purpose, an assessment of power generation options such as Photovoltaic, Fuel cell, Wind-hybrid was implemented, economic evaluation of power supply shows the Photovoltaic, Fuel Cell for few household's islands and Diesel, Wind-hybrid for more inhabited islands. Power supplied by Diesel shows the best response to increasing electric demand and system reliability even with its lower economic value. Those who are in charge of power planning have to pay attention to system reliability, stability and operating characteristics of candidate's power supply besides its economics.

The CCTF is the test facility to develop the combustor of rocket engine, which uses liquid oxygen as a oxidizer and kerosene as a fuel. Present paper introduces the detailed design results of compressed gas supply system of CCTF, which is planned to be installed at Naro Space Center.

  • Combustion Chamber Test Facility (CCTF) to be constructed in Naro Space Center for re-burning the fuel-rich gas of gas generator have afterburner system. The afterburner system is supplied the Oxygon ($O_2$) gas and Methane ($CH_4$) gas to reduced the harmful exhaust gas. The detailed design for the planned CCTF afterburner system is simulated and analysed by AMESim program through the all of gas supply system components. Afterburner system is performed to verify the pipe size, orifice diameter, and gas supply conditions according to the total gas consumption from analysis of gas supply system.
