측면충돌 성능 향상을 위한 고강도 강판의 적용 및 단순 센터필러 모델의 최적경량설계 (Light-weight Design with a Simplified Center-pillar Model for Improved Crashworthiness)

  • This paper is concerned with the light-weight design of a center-pillar assembly for the high-speed side impact of vehicle using advanced high strength steels(AHSS). Steel industries continuously promote the ULSAB-AVC project for applying AHSS to structural parts as an alternative way to improve the crashworthiness and the fuel efficiency because it has the superior strength compared to the conventional steel. In order to simulate deformation behavior of the center-pillar assembly, a simplified center-pillar model is developed and parts of that are subdivided employing tailor-welded blanks(TWB) in order to control the deformation shape of the center-pillar assembly. The thickness of each part which constitutes the simplified model is selected as a design parameter. Factorial design is carried out aiming at the application and configuration of AHSS to simplified side-impact analysis because it needs tremendous computing time to consider all combinations of parts. In optimization of the center-pillar, S-shaped deformation is targeted to guarantee the reduction of the injury level of a driver dummy in the crash test. The objective function is constructed so as to minimize the weight and lead to S-shape deformation mode. Optimization also includes the weight reduction comparing with the case using conventional steels. The result shows that the AHSS can be utilized effectively for minimization of the vehicle weight and induction of S-shaped deformation.

  • Membrane electrode assembly (MEA) for polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) are commonly prepared in the research laboratory by spraying, screen-printing and brushing catalyst slurry onto membrane or other support material like carbon paper or polyimide film in a batch style. These hand applications of the catalyst slurry are painstaking process with respect to precision of catalyst loading and reproducibility. It has been generally mentioned that the adoption of continuous process is very helpful to develop the reliable product. In the present work, we report the results of using continuous type coater with doctor-blade to coat catalyst slurry for preparing the MEA catalyst layers In a faster and highly reproducible fashion. We show that while expectedly faster than batch style, the machine coater requires the use of slurry of appropriate composition and a properly selected transfer decal material in order to achieve superior MEA plat lnw loading reproducibility. To make highly viscous catalyst slurry that is imperative for using coater, we use 40wt.% Nafion solution and minimize the content of organic solvent. And the choice of proper high surface area catalyst is important in the viewpoint of making well-dispersed slurry. After catalyst coating onto the support material, we transferred the catalyst layer to both sides of Nafion membrane by hot-pressing In this case, the degree of transfer was Influenced by hot-pressing condition including temperature, pressure, and time. To compare the transferring ability, we compared so many films and detaching papers. And among the support, polyethylene terephthalate(PET) film shows the prominent result.

Study of the Electrolytic Reduction of Uranium Oxide in LiCl-Li$_{2}$O Molten Salts with an Integrated Cathode Assembly

  • 650$^{\circ}C$의 LiCl-Li$_{2}$O 용융염계에서 10 g U$_{3}$O$_{8}$/batch 규모의 장치를 이용해서 우라늄산화물의 전해환원 특성에 대한 평가를 수행하였다. 일체형 음극은 고체전극, 우라늄산화물과 우라늄산화물을 담아주는 다공성 용기(멤브레인)로 구성된다. 멤브레인 재료로는 325-mesh 스테인레스강막과 다공성 마그네시아 도가니를 사용하였다. 일체형 음극의 재질에 따른 LiCl-3 wt$\%$ Li$_{2}$O계와 U$_{3}$O$_{8}$-LiCl-3 wt$\%$ Li$_{2}$O계의 순환 전압측정법 결과로부터 전해환원 반웅 메커니즘을 규명하였다. 일체형 음극의 재질에 따른 우라늄산화물의 직접 및 간접 전해환원에 대한 실험을 수행하였다. 그 결과, 325-mesh스테인레스강막을 사용하여 직접 및 간접 전해환원으로 금속전환을 수행하였을 때 낮은 전류효율로 인해 우라늄산화물을 금속우라늄으로 환원시키지 못했으며, 마그네시아 다공성 도가니를 사용하여 간접 전해환원으로 금속전환을 수행하였을 때는 높은 전류효율로 인해 우라늄산화물을 금속우라늄으로 환원시킬 수 있었다

AAO를 사용한 고분자전해질 연료전지의 공기극 촉매층 구조 제어 (Morphology Controlled Cathode Catalyst Layer with AAO Template in Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells)

  • 고분자전해질 연료전지 (PEMFC)의 공기극을 양극산화 알루미늄 (AAO) 템플레이트를 이용하여 제조하고 촉매층의 구조적 특성을 주사현미경 (SEM) 측정과 BET (Brunauer-Emmett-Teller) 분석을 통해 알아보았다. SEM 측정을 통해 일정한 크기와 모양의 Pt nanowire 가 규칙적으로 형성된 것을 확인할 수 있었다. BET 분석을 통해 AAO 템플레이트로 인하여 20-100 nm 크기의 기공 분포가 증가한 것을 확인하였다. 단위전지 성능평가와 임피던스 측정을 통하여 막-전극접합체 (MEA)의 전기화학적 특성을 분석하였다. 그 결과, AAO 템플레이트를 이용하여 제조한 MEA는 촉매층의 구조 개선으로 인하여 물질 전달 저항을 감소시킬 수 있었으며, 25%의 단위전지 성능이 향상되었다.

CFD simulation of flow and heat transfer characteristics in a 5×5 fuel rod bundles with spacer grids of advanced PWR

  • High fidelity nuclear reactor fuel assembly simulation using CFD method is an effective way for the structure design and optimization. The validated models and user practice guidelines play critical roles in achieving reliable results in CFD simulations. In this paper, the international benchmark MATiS-H is studied carefully and the best user practice guideline is achieved for the rod bundles simulation. Then a 5 × 5 rod bundles model in the advanced pressurized water reactor (PWR) is established and the detailed three-dimensional thermal-hydraulic characteristics are investigated. The influence of spacer grids and mixing vanes on the flow and hear transfer in rod bundles is revealed. As the coolant flows through the spacer grids and mixing vanes in the rod bundles, the drastic lateral flow would be induced and the pressure drop increases significantly. In addition, the heat transfer is enhanced remarkably due to the strong mixing effects. The calculation results could provide meaningful guidelines for the design of advanced PWR fuel assembly.

직접메탄올 연료전지의 농도 및 온도변화에 따른 실험적 검증 (Experimental Validation of a Direct Methanol Fuel Cells(DMFCs) model with a Operating Temperatures and Methanol Feed Concentrations)

  • In this paper, both theoretical and experimental investigations have been performed to examine the effects of key operating parameters on the cell performance of a DMFCs (i.e., methanol feed concentration and operating temperature). For experiment, the membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) were prepared using a conventional MEA fabrication method based on a catalyst coated electrode (CCE) and tested under various cell temperatures and methanol feed concentrations. The polarization curve measurements were conducted using in-house-made $25cm^2$ MEAs. The voltage-current density data were collected under three different cell temperatures ($50^{\circ}C$, $60^{\circ}C$, and $70^{\circ}C$) and four different methanol feed concentrations (1 M, 2 M, 3 M, and 4 M). The experimental data indicate that the measured I-V curves are significantly altered, depending on these conditions. On the other hand, previously developed one-dimensional, two-phase DMFC model is simulated under the same operating conditions used in the experiments. The model predictions compare well with the experimental data over a wide range of these operating conditions, which demonstrates the validity and accuracy of the present DMFC model. Furthermore, both simulation and experimental results exhibit the strong influences of methanol and water crossover rates through the membrane on DMFC performance and I-V curve characteristics.

AMBIDEXTER 원자력 복합체 - 신뢰성 있는 미래 원자력에너지 이용 방안 (AMBIDEBTER Nuclear Complex - A Credible Option for Future Nuclear Energy Applications)

  • Aiming at one of decisive alternatives for long term aspect of nuclear power concerns, an integral and closed nuclear system, AMBIDEXTER (Advanced Molten-salt Break-even Inherently-safe Dual-mission Experimental and TEst Reactor) concept is under development. The AMBIDEXTER complex essentially comprises two mutually independent loops of the radiation/material transport and the heat/energy conversion, centered at the integrated reactor assembly, which enables one to utilize maximum benefits of nuclear energy under minimum risks of nuclear radiation. And it provides precious radioisotopes and radiation sources from its waste stream. Also the reactor operates at very low level of fission products inventory throughout its lifetime. The nuclear and thermalhydraulic characteristics of the molten TH/$^{233}$ U fuel salt extend the capability of the self-sustaining AMBIDEXTER fuel cycle to enhance resource security and safeguard transparency. The reactor system is consisted of a single component module of the core, heat exchangers and recirculation pumps with neither pipe connections nor active valves in between, which will significantly improve inherent features of nuclear safety. States of the core technologies associated with designing and developing the AMBIDEXTER concept are mostly available in commercialized form and thus demonstration of integral aspects of the concept should be the prime area in future R&D programs.

VISUALIZATION OF THE INTERNAL WATER DISTRIBUTION AT PEMFC USING NEUTRON IMAGING TECHNOLOGY: FEASIBILITY TEST AT HANARO

  • Neutron imaging technique was used to investigate the water distribution and movement in Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) at HANARO, KAERI. The Feasibility tests were performed in the first and second exposure rooms at the neutron radiography facility (NRF) at HANARO in order to check the ability of each exposure room, respectively. The feasibility test apparatus was composed of water and pressurized air before making up the actual test apparatus. Due to the low neutron intensity in the second exposure room, the exposure time was too long to investigate the transient phenomena of PEMFC. Although the exposure time was improved to 0.1 sec in the first exposure room, it was difficult to discriminate detail water movement at the channel due to the high noise level. Therefore, the experimental setup must be optimized according to the test conditions. Water discharge characteristics were investigated under different flow field geometries by using feasibility test apparatus and the neutron imaging technique. The water discharge characteristics of a 3-parallel serpentine are superior to those of a 1-parallel serpentine, but water at Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) was not removed, regardless of the flow field type.

  • These days, to change the new & renewable energy change the subject because environmental pollution and exhausted fossil power. The most notable Fuel cells by one of the new & renewable energies are one of very useful power conversion sources. Their advantages are low environmental pollution, highly efficient power generation, diversity of fuels (natural gas, LPG, methanol and naphtha), and reusability of exhaust heat, modularity, and faster installation. PEMFC by one of the Fuel Cells is the energy of new technology which is produced by the electric chemical reaction directly. The essential composition elements of PEMFC stack are membrane electrode assembly (MEA), catalyst, Bipolar Plate. Under the this study, know-how is manufacturing single cell of PEMFC and Study design of Low Voltage, Low Electric Power System by PEMFC Single Cell.

  • A Piston assembly is very important because it directly receives the energy generated during combustion process. Surely, the friction and lubrication of piston ring pack do an important role in the performance and fuel economy of an engine. in fact, the friction loss in piston ring pack is the biggest portion to the whole engine friction. Therefore, the improvement of lubrication quality and friction loss in piston ring pack will be directly related with the improvement in the performance and fuel economy of an engine. Meanwhile, the oil consumption and blow-by gas through piston-cylinder-ring crevices have to be controlled as less as possible. In these two aspects, the study on the optimized design of piston ring pack has to be carried out. In this study, for the efficient design of piston ring pack, it is focused to develop a basic computer program that predicts the inter-ring pressure, the motion of ring and the blow-by gas through a crevice volume model between adjacent rings, and the oil film thickness and the friction computed by lubrication theories.
