Fuel sloshing in a vehicle fuel tank generates a reluctant low frequency noise, called slosh noise. To reduce slosh noise, whilst many approaches have used the Computational Fluid Dynamics method to first identify fuel behavior in a fuel tank, this paper applies the Transfer Path Analysis method. It is to find contribution of each transfer path from noise transfer function, vibration transfer function and acceleration. Then the final goal is to attenuate slosh noise by controlling them. To this aim, two types of models are studied. One is the decoupled model in which some of connection points of the fuel tank with the vehicle underbody are separated. The other is the modified model which is created by changing noise transfer function and acceleration from the original model. The analysis and validation test results show that the transfer path analysis can be an approach to enhancing slosh noise.

In the present study, the heat transfer performance of dimpled double-pipe heat exchangers for fuel cells that are utilized as cooling systems of fuel cells was studied. In addition, to comparatively analyze the heat transfer performance of dimpled double-pipe heat exchanger for fuel cells, plain double-pipe heat exchangers were also studied. Experimental results were derived on changes in the Reynolds numbers of the cooling water flowing in dimpled and plain double-pipe heat exchangers and changes in the heat flux of the air. Thereafter, to verify the reliability of the experimental results, the theoretical overall heat transfer coefficients and the experimental overall heat transfer coefficients were comparatively analyzed and the following results were derived. The heat transfer rate lost by the hot air and that of the heat transfer rate obtained by the cooling water were well balanced. The experiments of plain double-pipe heat exchangers and dimpled double-pipe heat exchangers were conducted under normal conditions and the theoretical overall heat transfer coefficient and the experimental overall heat transfer coefficient coincided well with each other. In both plain double-pipe heat exchangers and dimpled double-pipe heat exchangers, heat transfer rates increased as the cooling water flow velocity increased. Under the same experimental conditions, the heat transfer performance of dimpled double-pipe heat exchangers was shown to be higher by 1.2 times than that of plain double-pipe heat exchangers.

In the present work, performance analysis of fuel feed and transfer system for Smart UAV was conducted. For the fuel feed system, it was verified that minimum and maximum pressure requirements at the fuel inlet of engine were satisfied. For the fuel transfer system, design variables of jet pump were derived and performance was verified for the maximum acceleration flight condition by using ESDU design guide and flowmaster code.
KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute) developed the conceptual design of PGSFR (Prototype Gen-IV Sodium Cooled Fast Reactor) and Burner Reactor. Since the reactor characteristics of the PGSFR and Burner Reactor are different, the shape, size and the arrangement of the main components in the reactors must be different. Therefore, the conceptual design for the fuel handling and transfer systems needs to be performed coinciding with the structure of the reactor. Especially, because a redan structure dividing hot and cold pool is installed in the reactor vessel, the conceptual design of the fuel handling and transfer system largely changes depending on the location of the redan structure. Various elements of the conceptual design and an integral arrangement for the fuel handling and transfer system were arranged according to the characteristics, sizes and shapes of the reactors. In this paper, the conceptual designs of the fuel handling and transfer system for PGSFR and Burner Reactor are described. Especially, an A-frame method is selected as the fuel handling and transfer system for the Burner Reactor, considering the layout of the internal structure. The tilt angle, diameter and length of A-frame is determined and the strength evaluation of the A-frame is performed.
Minimum-fuel and -time orbit transfer are two major goals of the satellite trajectory optimization. In this paper, we consider satellites in two coplanar elliptic orbits when the apsidal lines coincide, and analytically find the conditions for the two-impulse minimum-time transfer orbit using Lambert's theorem. The transfer time is a decreasing function of a variable related to the transfer orbit's semimajor axis in the minimum-time case. In the minimum-time case, there is no unique minimum-time solution, but there is a limiting solution. However, there exists a unique solution in the case of minimum-fuel transfer, fur which we find analytically the necessary and sufficient conditions. As a special case, we consider when the transfer angle is one hundred and eighty degrees. In this case, we show that we obtain the classical fuel-optimal Hohmann transfer orbit. We also derive the Hohmann transfer rime and delta-velocity equations from more general equations, which are obtained using Lambert's theorem. We note the tradeoff between minimum-time and - fuel transfer. An optimal coplanar orbit maneuver algorithm to trade off the minimum-time goal against the minimum-fuel goal is proposed. Finally, the numerical simulation results are given to demonstrate the derived theory and the algorithm.
The most important advantage of nanoparticles is the increased thermal conductivity coefficient and convection heat transfer coefficient so that, as a result of using a 1.5% volume concentration of nanoparticles, the thermal conductivity coefficient would increase by about twice. In this paper, the effects of a nanofluid ($TiO_2$/water) on heat transfer characteristics such as the thermal conductivity coefficient, heat transfer coefficient, fuel clad, and fuel center temperatures in a VVER-1000 nuclear reactor are investigated. To this end, the cell equivalent of a fuel rod and its surrounding coolant fluid were obtained in the hexagonal fuel assembly of a VVER-1000 reactor. Then, a fuel rod was simulated in the hot channel using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation codes and thermohydraulic calculations (maximum fuel temperature, fluid outlet, Minimum Departure from Nucleate Boiling Ratio (MDNBR), etc.) were performed and compared with a VVER-1000 reactor without nanoparticles. One of the most important results of the analysis was that heat transfer and the thermal conductivity coefficient increased, and usage of the nanofluid reduced MDNBR.
This work presents the three-dimensional analysis of flow and heat transfer performed for a wire-wrapped fuel assembly of liquid metal reactor using Reynolds-averaged Wavier-Stokes analysis in conjunction with 557 model as a turbulence closure. The whole fuel assembly has been analyzed for one period of the wire-spacer using periodic boundary conditions at inlet and outlet of the calculation domain. Three different assemblies, two 7-pin wire-spacer fuel assemblies and one bare rod bundle, apart from the pressure drop calculations for a 19-pin case, have been analyzed. Individual as well as a comparative analysis of the flow field and heat transfer have been discussed. Also, discussed is the position of hot spots observed in the wire-spacer fuel assembly. The flow field in the subchannels of a bare rod bundle and a wire-spacer fuel assembly is found to be different. A directional temperature gradient is found to exist in the subchannels of a wire-spacer fuel assembly Local Nusselt number in the subchannels of wire-spacer fuel assemblies is found to vary according to the wire-wrap position while in case of bare rod bundle, it's found to be constant.

In this paper, residual sway control of objects that are moved underwater is investigated. The fuel transfer system in a nuclear power plant transfers the nuclear fuel rods underwater. The research on the dynamics of the loads transferred in different mediums (water and air) and their control methods have not been fully developed yet. The attenuation characteristics of the fuel transfer system have been studied to minimize its residual vibration by considering the effects of hydrodynamic forces acting on the fuel rod. First, a mathematical model is derived for the underwater fuel transfer system, and then experiments have been conducted to study the dynamic behavior of the rod while it travels underwater. Lastly, the residual vibration at the end point is minimized using the input shaping technique.

A heat transfer model of the intake valve in a spark ignition engine is presented, which is calibrated with a number of the valve temperature profiles measured during engine warm-up for the gaseous fuel(propane). The valve is divided into four identical elements for which the assumption of lumped thermal mass is applied. The calibration is made so that the difference between the measued and simulated valve temperatures becomes minimal. Then the model is applied to the cases of the liquid fuel(indolene) to estimate the amount of the liquid fuel vaporized from the intake valve by assuming that fuel evaporation accounts for the deficit of the heat balance budget. The results of the model show quantitative contribution of each heat transfer source to the heat balance. The behavior of the calculated mass fraction of the fuel vaporized from the intake valve explains how the liquid fuel evaporate during engine warm-up. The mass fraction at warmed-up condition is closely related with the fraction directly targeted on the valve back by the fuel spray geometry.
