  • The overall results of hot firing tests of fuel-rich gas generator with impinging injector at design and off-design points are described. The gas generator consists of an injector head with impinging injector, a water cooled combustor wall, a turbulence ring to enhance mixing, an instrument ring measuring temperature and pressure and a nozzle. The combustion tests were successfully performed without damage of gas generator. Test results show that the outlet temperature is not dependent on residence time of hot gas within 4~6msec but dependent on chamber pressure. The relation between outlet temperature and combustion efficiency resulting from measured pressure, mass flow rate and area of nozzle throat is shown. The overall O/F ratio is the critical parameter to determine the outlet temperature and the linear correlation between two parameters is established.

  • Thermal analyses have been performed to study the effect of location of fuel ring and thermal barrier coatings in regenerative cooling channels in a full-scale combustor. For the effective cooling, the fuel ring has better be installed near axial location of the low expansion ratio and low heat flux, and branching of cooling channels is preferable. Also, the radiative cooled nozzle extension is thought to be reasonable for the cooling of combustor walls. Among the possible coatings, $Y_2O_3$ stabilized $ZrO_2$ coating and Ni/Cr coating have been adopted. Compared with Ni/Cr coating which has high oxidation resistance, $Y_2O_3$ stabilized $ZrO_2$ coating, one of ceramic coatings is found to be much effective to sustain the thermal survivability of combustion walls.

  • The solenoid valve used in fuel cell system need to have good sealing performance because the work fluid can explode in the system. Moreover, the temperature of the work fluid is extremely high in order to maintain the properties of the rubber ring that seals the solenoid valve. This study deals with the rubber ring which is made from a fluoro-elastomer. The life cycle of the rubber ring was estimated by the relational expression of Arrhenius, and the solenoid valve was tested to confirm the sealing characteristics.

  • Mixed standard-FLIP fuel loading patterns in the TRIGA Mark-III reactor were analyzed. It was judged that the mixed loading pattern with the standard fuel in the B-ring and the FLIP fuel in other rings was mostly desirable in view of fuel temperature, cooling condition with the natural convection, or effective thermal flux utilization in the central thimble. In addition, tile maximum useful flux in tile reactor beamports versus the loading patterns was evaluated.

  • This paper reports the basic performance of a naturally aspirated DI diesel engine which is used widely in industry and agriculture when vegetable oils are used as fuel substitutes. In this paper, the properties of vegetable oils as diesel fuel were investigated and the load-performance of diesel engine when vegetable oils were used, as tested compared against diesel fuel. The general objective of this investigation is to realize an efficient, clean, and low carbon deposit combustion of the vegetable oils in diesel engines, showing their feasibility as diesel fuel substitutes. The results of this experiment were as follows; (1) Compared with diesel fuel, the droplet size of vegetable oil is very large. (2) Compared with diesel fuel, rapeseed oil, palm oil, and their blend fuels offered lower smoke, lower NOx, ower engine noise, and high thermal efficiency in a D.I. diesel engine However, there were carbon deposit and piston ring sticking problems with long-term operation. (3) For ethanol-rapeseed oil blends, a 10-20% of ethanol content is recommended to enable lower BSHC and less smoke without a remarkable increase in engine noise compared with pure rapeseed oil. (4) A 10% oxygen content in the vegetable oils is contributed to reduced smoke emission.

  • In a previous report, the properties of vegetable oils as diesel fuel substitutes were investigated and the basic load performance of a diesel engine was examined using vegetable oil. The results show that despite of the long term chain hydrocarbon structure and large droplet size due to high viscosity, vegetable oils have good basic performance and exhaust emissions, however they cause serious problems as carbon deposit buildup, they have poor durability, and also poor thermal efficiency. In this paper, the startability and engine durability with long term operation was tested by physical methods for reducing viscosity when vegetable oil was used as compared against diesel fuel. The results obtained in this investigation may be stated as follows; (1) There is no problem in startability when vegetable oil was used as diesel fuel substitutes as far as fuel temperature is higher than 30.deg. C (2) The carbon deposits were most extensive at lower loads and lower engine speeds, and deposit buildup more heavily on the cooler parts of the combustion chamber wall. (3) Blends with 25% diesel fuel and 20v-% ethanol are effective in reducing the carbon deposit buildups. (4) Significant improvement in carbon deposit and piston ring stick can be obtained by heating fuel(200.deg.).

  • A series of combustion test was done to verify the optimization result of a gas generator for a 10 ton thrust liquid rocket engine. An injector element is F-O-F impinging type injector and the test was conducted with kerosene/LOX propellants. Test results of combustion temperature and pressure show a very good agreement with optimal design result and verify that the design method was properly established. And turbulence ring revealed its effectiveness in enhancing combustion gas mixing and temperature difference in the radial direction showed only less than 15K. Also turbulence ring induced only 3.2% pressure loss in the combustion chamber, which is far less than conventional level observed in a gas turbine engine. Axial temperature distribution also shows that turbulence ring could effectively reduce about 10% or more in gas generator length if its location is properly selected.

  • Hybrid rocket shows interesting characteristics of complicated mixing layers developed by interactions between turbulent oxidizer flow and mass flow from surface due to fuel vaporization. In this study, compressible LES with a ring structure attached at the entrance of the combustor are performed. According to one recent report, adding a ring structure in the middle of the combustor helps increasing regression rate. From the numerical results, it is seen that vortex structures near the wall becomes stronger due to the interaction with surface mass injection, and the local heat flux increases due to the vortices. This phenomenon is obviously related to the generation of dimple structures which are seen in the number of experiments. Also, the ring structure at the entrance induces strong vortex flow which enhances heat transfer to the wall surface and mixing between fuel and oxidizer as well as reaction efficiency.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study for fire example by fuel leakage in LPG Vehicle. At first example, the car was repaired the fuel line that was connected with pressure hose between fuel regulator and injector in engine. But the service man was not very tighten with regular torque. At a result, the gas leaked on hot parts of engine. It verified the production of fire by engine heat. At second example, when the repair man, after replacement the injector, inserted the injector in a assembling part of it, he didn't the transform condition of fixing part. Therefore, the tearing phenomenon of O ring producted the controlled leakage of fuel by the injector deflection. It found the fact that the fuel leaked with gap of O ring. At third example. the fuel-cut solenoid valve was lined with pressure regulator unit. But the service man didn't throughly certify the leaked work of connected parts after repaired it. As a result, it certified the fire by engine heating leaked liquefied petroleum gas. Therefore it have to minimize the fire production that the driver should do no problem to throughly manage the fuel system.
