  • The Korea ministry of land, infrastructure and transport set the goal of cutting greenhouse gas emissions from the transport sector by 34.3% relative to the business as usual scenario by 2020. In order to achieve this goal, support is being given to education and information regarding eco-driving. As a practical measure, however, a vehicle control strategy for decreasing fuel consumptions and emissions is necessary. Therefore, this paper presents an optimized driving model in order to decrease fuel consumption. Scenarios were established by driving mode. The speed profile for each scenario applied to Comprehensive Modal Emission Model and then each fuel consumption was estimated. Scenarios and speed variation with the least fuel consumption were derived by comparing the fuel consumptions of scenarios. The optimized driving model was developed by the derived the results. The speed profiles of general driver were collected by field test. The speed profile of the developed model and the speed profile of general driver were compared and then fuel consumptions for each speed profile were analyzed. The fuel consumptions for optimized driving were decreased by an average of 11.8%.

  • Biodiesel of 20% (BD20) and 100% (BD100), alterative fuels for tractor, were tested for its power and competitiveness in the various farm operations including plowing and rotary tilling in the paddy fields. No troubles such as engine ignition or abrupt stopping were monitored during the works of plowing, rotary tilling and travelling on the road. According to the tractor PTO test in accordance with OECD tractor PTO test codes, no significant PTO output difference was found between the three fuels. However, fuel consumption rates were different between the biodiesels and diesel fuel in the paddy works, where as biodiesel percentage increased more fuels were spent than the diesel fuel. The reason for this phenomenon seems came from density difference of the three fuels. Maximum fuel consumption difference occurred between BD100 and diesel fuel was about 10% in the plowing. More energy was spent on the rotary tilling operations than the plowing, where 35~40 % more fuel needed on rotary tilling than plowing. Of the exhaust gases, more $CO_2$ was discharged from diesel fuel than biodiesels, but more NOx from biodiesels and CO was hard to determine which fuel produce more amount.

  • Engine bench tests has been done on a common-rail diesel engine with bio-diesel fuel to study effects of B100 and B20 on output power, fuel consumption and emissions. Test results show that B100 and B20 could reduce PM, HC, CO emission and smoke, but power decrease, fuel consumption increase and NOx increase obviously, B100 reduce PM and DS with $50%{\sim}70%$ and $80%{\sim}85%$ compared with diesel fuel, while B20 reduce PM and DS with $25%{\sim}35%$ and $30%{\sim}40%$. NOx of B100 and B20 increase $5%{\sim}20%$ compare to diesel.

Results obtained to compare with the ultrasonic fuel feeding system and conventional fuel system in diesel automobile engine. The results were as followers in case of the ultrasonic fuel feeding system. 1. In chassis dynamometer testing during given vehicle speeds, output were increased from 4.6 to 11.43%, brake specific fuel consumption were increased from 6 to 19%, smoke were decreased from 16.7 to 50%. 2. The running fuel consumption ratio in high way road test were decreased by 15.3% at a severe summer and 20.2% at a severe winter.

  • As the increase of the fuel oil price, the demand for saving of the ship running cost is growing. To meet the needs of the shipowners, the method for low load operation has been developed by engine licenser. As one of low load operation, the turbocharger cut-out system can be utilized flexibly both full and part load operation. It can be possible to optimize fuel consumption at both full and part load operation. Tests by engine licenser with 12K98MC engine have proven that the fuel oil consumption can be reduced approximately 5%. In this paper we will study the application of main engine turbocharger cut-out system onboard a vessel. One of four turbochargers with MAN Diesel & Turbo 12K98MC-C and 12K98ME-C engine is cut out with swing gate valve. The fuel oil consumption is measured during sea trial and engine shop test.

  • Recently, due to the rapid rise of the international oil price, the burden of fuel oil expense is relatively increasing in a ship. And the international restriction of the greenhouse gas which was generated from the burning of fuel oil is also rapidly strengthened. Therefore, to reduce the greenhouse gas and fuel oil consumption, many shipping company adopted the low speed navigation and it was focused on the improvement of fuel consumption efficiency and the usage of alternative energy in the marine engine development field. In this paper, the fuel oil consumption according to the ship's speed was measured in the actual seas and analyzed the shop test results in the shipyard and the ship navigation data from the abstract log. And then it was proposed that the ship's economic speed was 14~15kts and the optimum rpm was 140~150 in specific sea conditions.

  • In an early engine development, it is highly required to determine the Key Test Points at the main driving, zone and lessen those points to reduce a test duration. This paper describes that it is possible not only to predict the cycle fuel consumption[g/km], emissions[g/km] from engine data(BSFC[g/kWh], emissions[g/kWh]) but also to confirm the emission regulation potential before a vehicle test.

  • As the regulations of ship exhaust gas have been strengthened recently, many measures are under consideration to reduce fuel consumption. Among them, research has been performed actively to develop a machine-learning model that predicts fuel consumption by using data collected from ships. However, many studies have not considered the methodology of the main parameter selection for the model or the processing of the collected data sufficiently, and the reckless use of data may cause problems such as multicollinearity between variables. In this study, we propose a method to predict the fuel consumption of the ship by using the principal component analysis to solve these problems. The principal component analysis was performed on the operational data of the 13K TEU container ship and the fuel consumption prediction model was implemented by regression analysis with extracted components. As the R-squared value of the model for the test data was 82.99%, this model would be expected to support the decision-making of operators in the voyage planning and contribute to the monitoring of energy-efficient operation of ships during voyages.

  • This Paper proposed the prediction method of fuel consumption from vehicle informations through OBD-II Interface. We assumed RPM, TPS had a relationship with fuel consumption. We got the output as fuel-consumption from a vehicle RPM, TPS as input by using polynomial equation. We had modelling as quadric function with OBD-II data and fuel consumption data supported by automotive company in real. In order to verify the effectiveness of proposed method, 5 km real road-test was performed. The results showed that the proposed method can estimate precisely the fuel consumption from vehicle multi-data.
