  • In this paper, the array synthesis horn antenna was designed and measured a radiation power after connecting magnetron. The proposed antenna was designed on the basis of the $4{\times}4$ array synthesis horn antenna characteristics. For suppressing a back-lobe, 2 step short-stub structures were attached to synthesis horn aperture upper and lower. The designed antenna has FBR(Front to Back Ratio) of 39.7 dB. HPBW(Half Power Beam Width) of the E-plane and the H-plane are $8.86^{\circ}$ and $7.35^{\circ}$ each in the measurement. For measuring a radiation power of array antenna that use a magnetron, the waveguide adaptor was designed and connected magnetron with horn antenna. Also, microstrip line coupler that replace a dielectric material with an air gap was designed for measuring a high power. As a result, average radiation output power of the $4{\times}4$ array synthesis horn antenna that connect a four magnetrons had a 0.063W.

  • The piled raft foundations are subjected to lateral loading under the action of wind and earthquake loads. Their bearing behavior and flexural responses under these loadings are of prime concern for researchers and practitioners. The insufficient experimental studies on piled rafts subjected to lateral loading lead to a limited understanding of this foundation system. Lateral load sharing between pile and raft in a laterally loaded piled raft is scarce in literature. In the present study, lateral load-displacement, load sharing, bending moment distribution, and raft inclinations of the piled raft foundations have been discussed through an instrumented scaled down model test in 1 g condition. The contribution of raft in a laterally loaded piled raft has been evaluated from the responses of pile group and piled raft foundations attributing a variety of influential system parameters such as pile spacing, slenderness ratio, group area ratio, and raft embedment. The study shows that the raft contributes 28-49% to the overall lateral capacity of the piled raft foundation. The results show that the front pile experiences 20-66% higher bending moments in comparison to the back pile under different conditions in the pile group and piled raft. The piles in the piled raft exhibit lower bending moments in the range of 45-50% as compared to piles in the pile group. The raft inclination in the piled raft is 30-70% less as compared to the pile group foundation. The lateral load-displacement and bending moment distribution in piles of the single pile, pile group, and piled raft has been presented to compare their bearing behavior and flexural responses subjected to lateral loading conditions. This study provides substantial technical aid for the understanding of piled rafts in onshore and offshore structures to withstand lateral loadings, such as those induced by wind and earthquake loads.

  • Tn this paper, we evaluate the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) performance in a space-time block code (STBC) multi-input multi-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) system using selected mapping (SLM) and partial transmit sequences (PTS) approaches. SLM and PTS methods are used to decrease the nonlinear distortion and to improve the power efficiency of the nonlinear high power amplifier(HPA) in the MIMO-OFDM system. In simulation result, when compared with the existing MIMO-OFDM system using QPSK, the PTS method reduces the PAPR about 5dB while the SLM method can reduce about 3.5 dB. Also, we find the BER performance of the MIMO-OFDM system with and without the predistorter in front of the HPA. When the predistorter is used, the input back-off (IBO) of 4 dB is required in the PTS method, and IBO of 6 dB in the SLM method to closely conform to the linear amplifier. If the method of improving the PAPR is not used, the value of IBO of 8 dB is required.

  • A compact LPDA antenna consisting of right triangle-shaped dipole elements appended with strips is proposed for UWB applications. First, right triangle-shaped dipole elements are used instead of conventional strip dipole elements to reduce the width of the LPDA antenna. Second, the spacing between the LPDA elements is decreased to reduce the length of the LPDA antenna. Finally, strips are appended at the ends of the right triangle-shaped dipole elements in order to further reduce the width of the antenna. A prototype of the proposed antenna with 16 elements and gain > 4 dBi is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with dimensions of 44 mm×30 mm. Measured frequency band of the fabricated antenna is 2.99-14.76 GHz for a VSWR < 2, which ensures UWB operation, and measured gain range is 4.0-5.5 dBi with a front-to-back ratio larger than 10 dB. The length and width of the proposed compact LPDA antenna are reduced by 40.9% and 20.6%, respectively, compared to the conventional LPDA.

  • This study describes a series of model tests on instrumented pile groups embedded in HAP-CHEN sand undergoing lateral movement. We tried to find the effect of group piles dependent on a number of factors, including the position of the pile in a group, the pile spacing, and the pile arrangement. The results of test are as follows. For the group piles, the bending moment profile for each pile is similar in shape to that of single pile, although the magnitude and the position of the maximum bending moment are different. $R_M$ (the ratio of maximum bending moment) and $R_F$ (the ratio of resistance to lateral soil movement) were found to increase with increasing pile spacing. When a pile is in a group under lateral soil movement, RM increased in the order of the middle row, front row, back row, according to the direction of lateral deformation, and the outer pile has a larger RM than the inner pile.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the dispositions of university students' understanding and reasoning about rational number concept. For this, we surveyed for the subject groups of prospective math teachers(33), engineering major students(35), American engineering and science major students(28). The questionnaire consists of four problems related to understanding of rational number concept and three problems related to rational number operation reasoning. We asked multi-answers for the front four problem and the order of favorite algorithms for the back three problems. As a result, we found that university students don't understand exactly the facets of rational number and prefer the mechanic approaches rather than conceptual one. Furthermore, they reasoned illogically in many situations related to fraction, ratio, proportion, rational number and don't recognize exactly the connection between them, and confuse about rational number concept.

  • This study provides information for the design of pediatric inpatient uniforms with functionality and aesthetic beauty through a questionnaire-survey of the conditions of providing, wearing, preferences and improvement requirements for pediatric inpatient uniforms. As a result of the survey, intravenous injections were mostly given on the back of the hand, and the method of changing uniforms after intravenous injections was (in most cases) to pass the injection bottle through a sleeve or pant leg while the needle is inserted. The respondents answered that the sleeve length and pant length did not match. As a result of the preference of the pediatric inpatient design survey, respondents indicated they preferred pajama type, yellow color and medium size animal patterns. A similar ratio of set-in and raglan with no collar but with 3/4 length sleeve of round neck, front end, sleeve top opening, button closing and two pockets were preferred for shirts; however, a 3/4 length with rubber string on the waist, no opening and inner opening were preferred at the same ratio for pants. As for the method to adjust the length to assign functionality to pediatric inpatient uniforms, the most preferred sleeve was a roll-up sleeve with a strap and the most preferred pants were length adjusted pants that used a strap for both shirts and pants with a both sides strap. In addition, the majority of the respondents answered that a hand wrapper that protects the injection location during intravenous injections needs be developed. As for the development type, a half glove type and glove type were preferred in sequential order.

  • In this paper, we considered a design method of a compact quasi-Yagi antenna for portable UHF RFID readers. The antenna consists of a dipole driver and a reflector printed on a dielectric substrate, and it is fed by a microstrip line. In order to reduce the antenna size, the dipole and reflector are bent and the balun between the feeding microstrip line and coplanar strip (CPS) line is integrated within the CPS line. The effects of the geometrical parameters of the proposed antenna on the antenna performance are examined, and the parameters are adjusted to be suitable for the operation in UHF RFID band (902-928 MHz). The size of the fabricated antenna is $70mm{\times}75mm$, and the experiment results reveal a frequency band of 892-942 MHz for a voltage standing wave ratio < 2, a gain > 3.5 dBi, and a front-to-back ratio > 6.6 dB over the frequency band for UHF RFID.

  • In this paper, we studied a design method for a broadband quasi-Yagi antenna (QYA) for terrestrial digital television (DTV) reception. The proposed antenna is composed of a dipole driver, a rectangular patch type director close to the dipole, and a ground reflector printed on an FR4 substrate. A balun between a microstrip line and a coplanar strip (CPS) line is a rectangular patch inserted along the center of the CPS. The end of the balun is connected to the CPS line through a shorting pin. An antenna, as an design example for the proposed antenna, is designed for the operation in the frequency band of 470-806 MHz for terrestrial DTV, and the characteristics of the designed antenna are examined. The antenna has a good performance such as a frequency band of 430-842 MHz for a voltage standing wave ratio < 2, a gain > 3.7 dBi, and a front-to-back ratio > 7.4 dB.
