The discharge coefficient and spatial velocity distribution were clarified by carrying out a physical experiment to assess the performance of sluice for tidal power generation. The physical experiment was performed by manufacturing 10 sluce models whose scale is 1/70 of the prototype and installing it in the planar open channel, which has apron sections in front of and behind the sluice models. In particular, it was attempted to reasonably determine the locations and method of measuring water levels that may affect estimation of the discharge coefficient. Based on the experimental results for various conditions of discharges and tidal levels, the discharge coefficient of the sluice in the experiment was estimated as 1.3 to 1.4. Meanwhile, it was found that velocities were 2~3% faster at the sluices near the central region whereas 4~5% slower at the sluices on both sides, in comparison to the average value of the mean velocities of the ten sluices.
A numerical model of three-dimensional soil water distribution for drip irrigation management under cropped conditions was developed using Richards equation in Cartesian coordinates. The model accounts for both seasonal and diurnal changes in evaporation and transpiration, and the growth of plant root and the shape of root zone. Solutions were numerically approximated using the Crank-Nicolson implicit finite difference technique on the block-centered grid system and the Gauss-Seidel elimination in tandem. The model was tested under several conditions to allow the flow rates and configurations of drip emitters vary. In general, simulation results agreed well with experimental results and were as follows. The velocity of soil-water flow decreased drastically with distance from the drip source, and the rate of expansion of the wetted zone decreased rapidly during irrigation. The wetting front of wetted zone from a surface drip emitter traveled farther in vertical direction than in horizontal direction. Under this experimental weather condition, water use efficiency of a drip-irrigated apple field was greatest for 4-drip-emitter system buried at 25 cm, resulting from 10% increase in transpiration but 20% reduction in soil evaporation compared to those for surface 1-drip emitter system. Soil moisture retention curve obtained using disk tension infiltrometer showed significant difference from the curve obtained with pressure plate extractor.
Objective: This study aimed to compare biomechanical data between elite and beginner cyclists during cycle pedaling by performing a comparative analysis and to provide quantitative data for both pedaling performance enhancement and injury prevention. Methods: The subjects of this study included 5 elite cyclists (age: $18{\pm}0years$, body mass: $64.8{\pm}9.52kg$, height: $173.0{\pm}4.80cm$) and 5 amateur cyclists (age: $20{\pm}0years$, mass: $66.6{\pm}2.36kg$, height: $175.6{\pm}1.95cm$). The subjects pedaled on a stationary bicycle mounted on rollers of the same gear (front: 50 T and rear: 17 T = 2.94) and cadence of 90. The saddle height was adjusted to fit the body of each subject, and all the subjects wore shoes with cleats. In order to obtain kinematic data, 4 cameras (GR-HD1KR, JVC, Japan) were installed and set at 60 frames/sec. An electromyography (EMG) system (Telemyo 2400T, Noraxon, USA) was used to measure muscle activation. Eight sets of data from both the left and right lower extremities were obtained from 4 muscles (vastus medialis oblique [VMO], vastus lateralis oblique [VLO], and semitendinosus [Semitend], and lateral gastrocnemius [Gastro]) bilaterally by using a sampling frequency of 1,500 Hz. Five sets of events ($0^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$, $180^{\circ}$, $270^{\circ}$, and $360^{\circ}$) and 4 phases (P1, P2, P3, and P4) were set up for the data analysis. Imaging data were analyzed for kinematic factors by using the Kwon3D XP computer software (Visol, Korea). MyoResearch XP Master Edition (Noraxon) was used for filtering and processing EMG signals. Results: The angular velocity at $360^{\circ}$ from the feet was higher in the amateur cyclists, but accelerations at $90^{\circ}$ and $180^{\circ}$ were higher in the elite cyclists. The amateur cyclists had greater joint angles at $270^{\circ}$ from the ankle and wider knee joint distance at $0^{\circ}$, $180^{\circ}$, and $360^{\circ}$ than the elite cyclists. The EMG measurements showed significant differences between P2 and P4 from both the right VLO and Semitend. Conclusion: This study showed that lower body movements appeared to be different according to the level of cycle pedaling experience. This finding may be used to improve pedaling performance and prevent injuries among cyclists.

Multibeam Echosounder system is the latest technology of a hydrographic survey utilized in producing an electronic nautical chart, obtaining a DEM with high precision, making a moving image by Swath surveying a wide area. As a fundamental study for improving the precision of MBES, we compared and analyzed measurements of DGPS and Motion sensor, and studied for the dynamic characteristics of vessel's movements. DGPS was installed in front and in the rear and on both side or the vessel and surveyed. The receiving precision of surveyed GPS results was obtained to the satisfactory extent that was possible to valuate the accuracy of Motion sensor as 0.0016$^{\circ}$ of the roll value and 0.0009$^{\circ}$ of the pitch value. The relationship between the values of heading, pitch, and roll in Motion sensor and the data of DGPS was proportional correlation. In addition, it is considered that deviations by elements like rapid turning and vibration of the vessel will be occurred, although the correlation of each deviation according to each amount or change is proportional. It is suitable that GPS installs in the central line of the vessel that is less affected than other places by waving because the amount of change in the tide level obtained from GPS survey and the value of heave are similar with the values taken by Motion sensor, and the velocity of GPS is different from installed places. The accuracy of the final result from MBES could be affected by the values of gyro and Motion sensor inputted to MBES processor because there were intervals of 15s and 13s of receiving time in gyro and Motion sensor respectively compared with the real-time measurements of DGPS.
Currently commercially available phantom can reproduce and evaluate only a static situation, the study is incomplete research on phantom and system which is can confirmed functional situation in the kidney by time through dynamic phantom and blood flow velocity, various difference according to the amount of radioactive. Therefore, through this study, it has produced the dynamic kidney phantom to reproduce images through the dynamic flow of the kidney, it desires to evaluate the usefulness of nuclear medicine imaging. The production of the kidney phantom was fabricated based on the normal adult kidney, in order to reproduce the dynamic situation based on the fabricated kidney phantom, in this study it was applied the volume pump that can adjust the speed of blood flow, so it can be integrated continuously radioactive isotopes in the kidney by using 99mTc-pertechnate. Used the radioactive isotope was supplied through the two pump. It was confirmed the changes according to the infusion rate, radioactive isotopes and the different injection speeds on the left and right, analysis of the acquired images was done by drawn five times ROI in order to check the reproducibility of each on the front and rear of the kidney and bladder. Depending on the speed of injection, radioisotope was a lot of integrated and emissions up when adjusting the pressure of the pump as 30 stroke, it was the least integrated and emissions up when adjusting as 40 stroke. The integration of the left & right kidney was not reached in the amount of the highest when adjusting as 10 stroke. In the changes according to the amount of the radioactive isotope, 0.6 mCi(22.2 MBq), 0.8 mCi (29.6 MBq)was showed up similar tendency but, in the result of the injection 0.8 mCi, it was showed up counts close to double of 0.6 mCi. In the result of the differently injection speed of the left & right kidney, as a result of different conditions that injection speed was 20 stroke through left kidney phantom, the injection speed was 30 stroke through right kidney phantom, it was enough difference in the resulting image can be easily distinguished with the naked eye. Through this study, the results showed that the dynamic kidney phantom system is able to similarly reproduce renogram in the actual clinical. Especially, the depicted over time for the flow to be excreted through the kidney into the bladder was adequately reproduce, it is expected to be utilized as basic data to check the quality of the dynamic images. In addition, it is considered to help in the field of functional imaging and quality control.
The spread rate of forest fire was analyzed on Samcheok forest fire that broke out on April 7, 2000 in Kunduck-Myun, Samcheok-City, Kangwon-Province and lasted for about 9 days. The spatial database including topography, overstory species distribution, micro-climate, daily fire front lines for the area was built using GIS and the daily spread pattern was investigated to determine a multiple regression equation to estimate forest fire spread rate. The results of the investigation showed that, on the first day, the forest fire spreaded out extremely fast up to 12.3m/min at about 10 a.m. until noon. After that, the forest fire spread rate fluctuated and slowed down as low as below 1m/min and quenched on April 15. The daily area-based spread rate along the fire spread line got to the peak of about 5,700ha on April 11, of which spread rates were recorded as 2.84m/min in the first half and 1.10m/min in the second half. Also, it was found that slope aspect, wind velocity and % area distribution of Pinus densiflora are the major factors affecting the spread rate of forest fire in this area.
This study describes a prediction method for rainfall-induced landslides and subsequently debris flows in a regional scale areas. Special attention is given to the calculation of the propagation of debris flows by considering rainfall infiltration into soil slopes and soil entrainments by debris flows. The proposed method was verified by comparing the analytical results and the measured ones reported by the previous research. As a result, predictions and observations were quite similar in terms of the front position, the velocity, volume and momentum of debris flows. Even when applied to natural mountain slope with complicated terrain, numerical results and observations were similar. At last, the combined analysis of landslides and debris flows were conducted. The landslides prediction showed a predictive rate of about 83%, and the result of the final volume of debris flow showed an error rate of 3%. As a result, the proposed combined method for landslides and debris flows overcomes the problem of separating the landslides analysis and the debris flows simulation. Especially, the proposed method can analyze the effects of rainfall on entrainments by debris flows as well as rainfall-induced landslides and the behavior of debris flows.
In urban areas, structures are installed deep underground in the lower part of the structure to utilize space. Therefore, a retaining wall is used to prevent earth pressure from the ground when constructing a structure. Due to the development of construction technology, retaining wall applied to excavation work are used to prevent danger such as falling rocks and landslides in temporary facilities when construction or retaining walls are installed. In general, the application of a retaining wall to a temporary facility during the embankment construction is the case of expanding an existing roads or railways. Therefore, it is necessary to study the retaining wall applied to the embankment construction such as the double-track site of the high-speed railway. In this study, two types of common one row H-pile retaining wall and two types of IER retaining wall were analyzed, and the stability of the retaining wall applied to the construction of double-track of the high-speed railway was analyzed. The earth retaining wall is a construction method that combines forced pile applied to the stabilization of the slope with the wall of the earth retaining wall. As a result of the analysis, the IER retaining wall had maximum lateral displacement of 19.0% compared to the type with H-plie installed only in the front while dynamic load was applied. In addition, the slower the speed of high-speed railway, the more displacement occurred, and the results show that more caution is needed when designing the ground in low-speed sections.

The Stone Seated Buddha Triad and Stone Standing Buddha in Bijung-ri are state-designated heritage (treasure) statues having the Buddha style of the Goryeo dynasty from the 6th century. Conservation scientific investigations were conducted to understand the preservation status of these stone Buddha statues and to establish a conservation plan. The Stone Seated Buddha Triad and Stone Standing Buddha are composed of fine-medium grained biotite granite, which is considered to be of the same origin owing to their low magnetic susceptibility distribution of less than 0.2 (×10-3 SI unit) and similar mineral characteristics. The Stone Seated Buddha Triad has highly homogenous mineral composition and particle size, whole-rock magnetic susceptibility, and geochemical characteristics very similar to those of the nearby outcrop. It was confirmed that a combination of physical, chemical, and biological factors affects the Stone Buddha statues. In particular, both the Stone Seated Buddha Triad and Stone Standing Buddha tend to be chipped off from the front and cracked and scaled from the back. The Stone Standing Buddha located outdoors experiences granularity decomposition and black algae formation, which accelerate the weathering under unfavorable conservation environments. The result of non-destructive physical property diagnosis using ultrasonic velocity showed that both the Stone Seated Buddha Triad and Stone Standing Buddha have been completely weathered (CW), indicating very poor physical properties.

In this study, the flow characteristics of the sea region, where tidal current and shock waves are combined, are identified using a three-dimensional numerical model (Princeton Ocean Model, POM). The model is adopted and applied for simulating the flows of the sea region near the open sections during the seadike closure work of Sihwa Seadike which was closed in 1994. The simulation results show that the shock waves with high velocities propagate through the sections toward the inside and outside of the seadike during the periods of the spring and ebb tides, respectively. It is found that the phenomena of flow separation occur near the shock waves; as the shock waves extend to wider zones after passing the sections, their effects on the tidal current become weak. In addition, the longitudinal velocity profiles of the flows are revealed to be affected by the shock waves. For all the simulations, at the ebb tide, the drawdown of the water levels occurs in front of the open section, respectively, especially, hydraulic jump occurs when simulating the case of maximum difference in water level between the inside and outside of the seadike. As a result, it is thought that the flow characteristics of the sea region dominated by shock waves need to be identified employing three-dimensional analysis approach, which is expected to provide the information for ocean engineering works and facility management.
