  • The shift feeling, a driver experiences during gear shifting, is a major factor in manual transmission quality. Recently, the shift feeling has becoming more severe every year in proportion to the higher torque and revolution speed of today's automotive engine. In this paper, first, the diagram of a relation between cone angle, sleeve chamfer angle, and friction coefficient of ring is investigated for easy design of Synchromesh system. And then, methodology to solve the shift problems such as clashing noise and rough shift, ect. by analyzing the synchronization procedure in sequence and by investigating the shift waveform if presented.

  • An improvement of vehicle fuel economy is one of the most important topic in automotive engineering. Lots of engineers make efforts to achieve 1% of fuel economy improvement. Engine friction is an important factor influencing vehicle fuel economy. This paper focuses on effect of engine friction on vehicle fuel economy during warm-up. A computer simulation is one of the powerful tools in automotive engineering field. Recently Simulation is attempting to virtual experiment not using expensive instruments. It is possible to presuppose fuel economy by changing the characteristic of accessories using CRUISE(vehicle simulation software). In this paper, fuel consumption at each part of the vehicle is analyzed by both of experiment and simulation. The results of fuel economy analysis on experiment substitute for Cruise to calculate fuel economy. The simulation data such as engine speed, brake torque, shift pattern, vehicle speed, fuel consumption level is well correlated to experiment data. In this paper, the change of warm-up time, faster or slower, through simulation is performed. As a result of the fast warm-up, fuel economy is improved up to 1.7%.

  • The purpose of seismic isolation system among them is to lengthen the period of structure and make its period shift from the dominant period of earthquake. In this study, the seismic behavior of arch structure with lead rubber bearing(LRB) and friction pendulum system(FPS) is analyzed. The arch structure is the simplest structure and has the basic dynamic characteristics among large spatial structures. Also, Large spatial structures have large vertical response by horizontal seismic vibration, unlike seismic behavior of normal rahmen structures. When horizontal seismic load is applied to the large spatial structure with isolation systems, the horizontal acceleration response of the large spatial structure is reduced and the vertical seismic response is remarkably reduced.

  • This work studies the flow behaviors in the gap between the friction pad and separator in wet-clutch systems. The fluid volume of the lubricant is modeled using the entire system of wet-clutch pack of a dual clutch transmission that has larger outer radius of odd gear shifts and smaller inner radius of even gear shifts. Flow behaviors in the gap of the clutch pad are computed using the gear shift modes that consider the real relative velocities between the friction pad and separator. Flow behaviors in the gap of the disengaged clutch pad are mainly investigated for the wet-clutch system, whereas the engaged clutch pad is modeled with no fluid rate through the contacting surfaces. The developed hydrodynamic fluid pressures and velocity fields in the clutch pad gap are computed to obtain the relevant information for managing flow rates in wet-clutch packs under dual operating conditions during gear shifts. These hydrodynamic pressures and velocity fields are compared on the basis of each gear level and gap location, which is necessary to determine the effects of groove patterns on the friction pad. Shear stresses in the gap locations are also computed on the basis of the gear level for the inner and outer clutch pads. The computed results are compared and used for the design of cooling capacity against frictional heat generation in wet-clutch pack systems.

  • Technique for analyzing pile installed by vibratory pile driver was developed and results of analysis obtained from variation of bias weight were studied. It can be seen from load transfer curve for dynamic skin friction that load transfer curve shift to downward as bias weight increases. Shape of load transfer curve for dynamic skin friction becomes closer to shape of coil as the bias weight decreases. Magnitudes of toe resistances were not affected by the bias weight. Shape of load transfer curve for dynamic toe resistance shows the similar tendency as the load transfer curve for skin friction exhibits. Vertical displacement increases as the bias weight increases and the shape of vertical displacement with time shows more distinct shape of wave.

  • In this study an analytical tide model of uniform width with three sub-regions is presented. The three-subregions model takes into account step-like variations in depths in the direction of the channel as a way to examine the $M_2$ tide of the East China Sea (ECS) as well as the Yellow Sea (YS). A modified Proudman radiation condition has been applied at the northern open head, while the sea surface elevation is specified at the southern open boundary. It is seen that, due to the presence of an abrupt change in depth, co-amplitude lines of the $M_2$ tide are splitted to the east and west near the end of the ECS shelf region. Variations in depths, bottom friction and the open head boundary conditions all contribute to the determination of formation of amphidromes as well as overall patterns of $M_2$ tidal distribution. It is seen that increasing water depth and bottom friction in the ECS shelf results in the westward shift of the southern amphidrome. There is however no hint at all of the well-known degenerated tidal pattern being formed. It is inferred that a lateral variation of water depth has to be somehow incorporated to represent the tidal patterns in ECS in a realistic manner. Regarding the radiation factor introduced by Fang et al. (1991), use of a value larger than one, possibly with a phase shift, appears to be a proper way of incorporating the reflected waves from the northern Yellow Sea (NYS).

  • The dynamic response of the head arm assembly (HAA) of a hard disk drive to an impact load was obtained from a 3D non-linear finite element model using ANSYS/LS-DYNA and from experiments using a modified levitation mass method (LMM). In the finite element model, the impact load was created by modeling the mass as a rigid body and making it collide with the HAA. The velocity, displacement, acceleration, and inertial force of the mass were then obtained from the time history data of the finite element analysis. In the LMM, a mass that was levitated with an aerostatic linear bearing, and hence encountered negligible friction, was made to collide with the actuator arm, resulting in a dynamic bending test for the arm. During the collision, the Doppler frequency shift of the laser beam reflected from the mass was accurately measured with an optical interferometer. The velocity, displacement, acceleration, and inertial force of the mass were accurately calculated from the measured time-varying Doppler frequency shift. A good correlation between the experimental data and FEA results was observed. The FEA was also used to investigate the dynamic response of the HAA to impact by different masses.

  • The primary objective of this study is to treat a monocrystalline silicon (Si) wafer having a thickness of $279{\mu}m$ by employing the ultrasonic nanocrystal surface modification (UNSM) technology for improving the efficiency and service life of nano-electromechanical systems (NEMSs) and micro-electromechanical systems (MEMSs) by enhancing of wear and corrosion resistances. The wear and corrosion resistances of the Si wafer were systematically investigated before and after UNSM treatment, wherein abrasive, oxidative and spalling wear mechanisms were applied to the as-received and subsequently UNSM-treated Si wafer. Compared to the asreceived state, the wear and corrosion resistances of the UNSM-treated Si wafer are found to be enhanced by about 23% and 14%, respectively. The enhancement in wear and corrosion resistances after UNSM treatment may be attributed to grain size refinement (confirmed by Raman spectroscopy) and modified surface integrity. Furthermore, it is observed that the Raman intensity reduced significantly after UNSM treatment, whereas neither the Raman shift nor new phases were found on the surface of the UNSM-treated Si wafer. In addition, the friction coefficient values of the as-received and UNSM-treated Si wafers are found to be about 0.54 and 0.39, respectively. Hence, UNSM technology can be effectively incorporated as an alternative mechanical surface treatment for NEMSs and MEMSs comprising Si wafers.

  • For more districted seismic design and attemped multi-bridge continuity, the existing seismic design is difficulted to treat seismic activity. So, many company applied multi-fixed point and damper or isolator, which is effective for decreasing seismic energy, on period shift, decentralization and damping. But, there is hard to design special bridge with adjusted seismic system because of absence seismic device and insufficient design experience. Therefore, the study on behavior characteristics of designed bridge with various seismic device is performed to utilize the result of this for selection of adequate seismic device.

  • In this research, we are trying to develop an automatic sorting system, which is mostly affected by frictional forces between a veneer and plank. So we will make a suitable dynamic model and mechanism to control the velocity feedback. We will suggest stick-slip motion model which can predict the stability behavior of this system. The control system has a feedback loop, in which the following operations are included. A kind of sensor can get the velocity of the mass to adhesive veneer. The output of result signal should be passed to a filter, then to a phase shifter, which applies an adjustable phase-shift, to a variable-gain amplifier. A shaker will be attached to the mass, which ex...
