Objectives: This is an explanatory correlational study to assess the level of and the relationship of the related factors of health promotion behavior by gender among college students. Methods: Subjects were 950 of the freshmen of the year 2010 at a university in a city adjacent to a metropolis, in S. Korea. Data were collected from the freshmen who understood the purpose of the study and agreed to participate during a freshmen core course using a structured questionnaire. Related factors include active- and passive-self efficacy, internal health locus of control, and social support. Related factors were compared between male and female using t-test and the relationship between the related factors and the health promotion behavior was analyzed separately for each sex, by multiple regression analysis using SPSS 12.0. Results: There were differences in the related factors of BMI between male and female students. They were alcohol behavior and perceived health status among female students while smoking status, alcohol behavior, perceived health status, and BMI among male students. Result from the multiple regression analysis revealed difference in the related factors and in the magnitude of the relationship evaluated by the standardized beta coefficients. Significant factors, listed by the magnitude of beta coefficients, among female were social support, active self efficacy, passive self efficacy, internal health locus of control, and alcohol behavior. Significant factors among male students were social support, active self efficacy, smoking, internal health locus of control, passive self efficacy, and perceived health status. Conclusions: There are gender difference in health promotion behavior and the related factors. The results suggest that the gender differences need to be considered when planning health promotion programs in college. Further research is necessary in order to draw consensus on roles of the related factors of health promotion behavior.

Purpose: This purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) counseling program on self-efficacy and adjustment to college life for nursing freshmen. Methods: This study used a nonequivalent control pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design. Thirty-eight new nursing students were randomly assigned to either an experimental group (n=18) or a control group (n=20) recruited from a four-year nursing college. An REBT counseling program was composed of 8 group sessions of orientation, understanding the theory of REBT, finding irrational beliefs, internalizing rational beliefs, and closing over a duration of 5 weeks. The duration of each session was 90 minutes. Self-efficacy and adjustment to school life were measured by the Sherer's Self-Efficacy Scale and Baker & Siryk's Student Adjustment to College before and after the REBT counseling program. Data were analyzed using t-tests and paired t-tests. Results: The experimental group showed a significant improvement in self-efficacy compared to the control group. There was no significant change in college life adjustment between the experimental and control groups. Conclusion: An REBT counseling program could be applied as an effective program in enhancing self-efficacy resulting in positive and goal-oriented behavior for new nursing students in college.

Purpose : The present study attempted to consider the degree of consciousness of economic ethics in nursing students and the factors affecting these perceptions. Method : A survey was conducted to a total of 874 nursing students from the freshmen and seniors of 11 depts of nursing science nationwide selected by convenience sampling (one for each province, and as for Gangwon-do, two schools were selected from Yeongdong area and Yeongseo area ; 13 male students were excluded). A structured questionnaire was used to collect data on their demographic characteristics and economic ethical perceptions. Collected data were analyzed using the SAS V8.1 statistical package. Result : (1) The score for the economic ethical consciousness of the subjects was $36.76{\pm}10.20$. As for each sub-categories, the score for industry was $7.67{\pm}2.77$; thrift, $7.42{\pm}2.37$; cooperation, $7.41{\pm}2.21$; occupational consciousness, $7.18{\pm}2.20$; and, for consumption, $7.02{\pm}1.90$. The score for the consciousness of consumption was the lowest. (2) Among the demographic characteristics of the subjects, age was found to have a statistically significant positive relation to the consciousness of economic ethics(r=.13, p<.001). The next significant factor was grade: seniors seemed to have a higher economic consciousness in all the sub-categories than freshmen(t=-4.32, p<.001). The number of in-home family has a statistically significant negative correlation with economic attitudes(r=-.15, p<.001). In addition, their economic ethical perceptions were significantly higher with no religion (t=2.14, p<.05); have an unemployed father (t=2.78, p<.05); have credit cards under their own names (t=3.04, p<.05); have ever had overdue card bills (t=4.25, p<.001); have ever had part time job(t=1.74, p<.1) and when they don't live with their parents (t=-2.01, p<.05). 3) A multiple regression analysis was conducted to examine the influential power of the factors affecting the consciousness of economic ethics of the subjects. The factors had more influence on the economic attitudes of the seniors than those of freshmen; in those who having credit cards under their own names than under others; and, in those who have ever experienced credit default than those haven't. Though these factors raised average 3.0 points of economic consciousness, their expository power for the consciousness were low. Conclusion : The nursing students had medium-high consciousness of economic ethics and they seemed to have low consciousness of the proper consumption practices. Their actual life experiences had an influence on their economic attitudes. Therefore, practical programs on economic knowledge should be developed and taught to students systematically at school so that they could have sound consciousness of economic ethics and appropriate knowledge closely related with their real life.

Purpose: This study was done to investigate changes in image of nursing in first year students of nursing after courses on history & philosophy of nursing. Methods: Participants were 100 first year students at a nursing college located in K city. The students were asked to submit a written answer to an open-ended question. Data were collected in March, 2011, before the students started nursing courses, and again in June, 2011, after they had finished one semester of nursing courses. Data were analyzed using Van Kaam's phenomenological method. Results: Before the nursing courses, students regarded nursing as caring for patients comfortably with warmth and kindness, helping patients with self-sacrificing spirit and service, and being tough and overwhelming to do. After finishing one semester of nursing courses, they regarded nursing as a profession that requires motherly care, love and devotion, and as meaningful and beautiful to do. Conclusions: After finishing one semester of nursing courses, the images of nursing held by the students changed from a traditional perspective emphasizing the emotional and negative aspects to one focusing more on the professional and positive aspects. It is essential to establish healthy and positive images of nursing among students through the nursing curriculum.
Purpose: This study attempted to collect basic data to improve the basic repair ability of university freshmen in a world where the usage of advanced medical devices related to computer programs is now common. Methods: The collected data from 280 university freshmen enrolled in nursing, dental, and health degrees or computer and engineering degrees at K university of Gangwon-do were analyzed using the t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and linear regression analysis using the IBM SPSS Statistics ver. 21.0 (IBM). Results: The mathematical learning status and the detailed factors of basic mathematical ability had a positive (+) correlation. The factors of basic mathematical ability, psychology of learning (p<0.001), method of learning (p<0.001), and propensity to learn (p<0.05) were found to be statistically significant, and the model's explanatory power was 40.0%. Conclusion: As a result of this study and considering that advanced medical devices such as computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing and three-dimensional printers are becoming more common and up-to-date in clinical settings, it is determined that nursing and dental health students require education to improve their repair skills.

Objectives: This study was attempted to understand the relation between MBTI personality types and stress, resilience, school Adaptation of nursing students. Methods: The subjects were 177 freshmen of Nursing College who agreed on participating in this research. Data was collected from April, 2nd, 2012 to April, 5th. The data was analyzed by operating t-test and Pearson correlation coefficient with PASW 18.0. Results: It was appeared that ESFJ type was the highest MBTI type among the objects of this study, and ISTJ, ESFP were ranked to next to it. Among the four indexes of MBTI, it was appeared that E(Extroversion), S(Sensing), F(Feeling), and J(Judging) were higher. According to personality types, it showed that I type students perceived stress higher than E type, and E type students adapted themselves to school lives better than I type, and the degree of resilience was higher. Also, the higher the degree of stress they had, the lower school Adaptation and the degree of resilience they got. While, as the school Adaptation got higher, the degree of resilience grew higher. Conclusions: It is needed to help the freshmen of Nursing College to adapt to school efficiently, by testing their MBTI personality types, and then to help I type students to overcome their stress and adapt to school better. Also, it is considered to develop and operate the programs which can improve the resilience, since the results of this study have indicated that the students showing the higher scores of resilience were acclimating to school well.
Purpose: The study aimed to identify the stress levels and their solutions in MZ(Millennials + generation Z) nursing students by using photovoice through the medium of photography. Methods: The study was conducted from November to December 2022 among freshmen to senior nursing students at a major university. Participants were recruited by telephone, email, and social media. Originally, four participants were recruited for each year of nursing school, but it resulted in a total of 19 participants: three freshmen students, nine sophomore students, four junior students, and three senior students. The participants were asked to take pictures of things in their surroundings that bothered them and things that helped them overcome the bothering things and to have group discussions in groups of 4-5 to analyze the results. Results: The results of the study revealed the following themes: 'Difficulties and worries as a nursing student', 'Striving to go beyond yourself', 'Unhealthy factors', 'Ways to relieve stress', and 'Meaning of stress'. For each of the themes, there were five subcategories under 'difficulties and worries as a nursing student', four under 'fighting with oneself', seven under 'ways to relieve stress', five under 'unhealthy factors', and two under 'meaning of stress', resulting in 21 subcategories. Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, firstly, there is a need to educate university students about the factors that contribute to unhealthy behaviors and how to deal with stress in a healthy way. Secondly, it is necessary to provide programs that allow students to have various experiences.
There is an urgent need to improve the tool predicting success or failure of academic achievement of nursing in Korea so as to identify as early as possible those students who should receive special instruction and to improve screening procedures for admission of nursing. The main purpose of this study is to identify the correlation between the grade point averages of courses learned and their psychological test characteristics in a baccalaureate nursing program. All 240 students, except freshmen, enrolled in Nursing Department of Seoul National University in the spring semester, 1972, participated in this study. All of the subjects completed the psychometric tests such as interest test, personality test and test of self-concept. Total grade point averages, grade point averages of general education subjects, of supporting science courses and of professional education subjects were used as performance criteria of the students. Through the calculation of product-moment correlation coefficients between the test scores and four grade point averages of each class and of total subjects, the following findings and recommendations were obtained. 1. There was so much variation in characteristics of interest test correlated with academic achievement of nursing students in each class. 2. Since the school objectives, curriculum and teaching strategies may affect predictive efficiency of characteristics of students'interest test, interest test must-be utilized in a homogeneous group in order to predict school achievement. 3. Characteristics of interest test positively correlated at significant level with total grade point averages of all subjects were scientific interest-biological, scientific interest-physical, and humanitarian interest. Scientific interest-physics: was the only characteristic positively correlated at significant level with total grade point averages and grade point averages of professional courses. 4. There were various patterns in characteristics of personality test correlated with school achievement of nursing students by class pattern and personality maturation as they progress toward higher classes. 5. A characteristic of personality test, responsibility, is in high positive correlation with academic achievement in the upper division of classes. 6. Responsibility was the sole personality factor positively correlated at significant level with total grade point averages and grade point averages of nursing courses in the total number of students. 7. There were very different correlation coefficients between characteristics of self-concept test and academic achievement according to the type of each class and type of courses they learned. 8. Characteristics of self-concept test positively correlated at significant level with total grade point averages and grade point averages of nursing courses of all students were physical self and row variability. Those who have positive concept on their own physical status and who are deficient in self-concept were higher in total grade point averages and grade point averages of professional courses than other students. 9. Scores of professional courses offered in freshmen and sophomore classes were in positive correlation with limited number of characteristics of psychological tests. In pursuit of a tool predicting successful academic achievement of nursing students, their G.P.A. during the junior and senior year of nursing will serve as the more reasonable criteria. 10. Junior students of this school were in higher positive correlation with many psychological factors than other classes.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors having an influence on adjusting to the university life of freshmen and sophomore nursing students. The data was collected from questionnaires that were filled out by 150 nursing students in one school from November 1, 2018 to November 20, 2018. The data was analyzed by the SPSS 22.0 program (frequency, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and multiple regression analysis). The mean score of university life adjustment was $75.85{\pm}9.43$ (range: 25~125). A negative correlation was found between adjustment to university life and stress, A positive correlation was found between adjusting to university life and self efficacy. Negative correlation was found between stress and self efficacy. The factors influencing the adjustment of freshmen and sophomore nursing students to university life were health promoting behavior (sleeping time, snacks, drinking, and leisure time or having a hobby), stress and self efficacy. In addition, health promoting behaviors, stress and self efficacy accounted for 13.9% of the variance in adjusting to university life. The results of this study suggest that health promoting behavior, stress and self efficacy are important to the adjustment to university life for freshmen and sophomore nursing students. Further research on improving health promoting behavior, reducing stress and improving self efficacy is warranted. An intervention program that includes these significant variables of such subjects should be developed to improve adjusting to the university life of nursing students.
Purpose: This study was done to identify the preferences for learning style and the degree of self-directed learning and influencing factors on it among nursing students working on a Bachelor of Science in a nursing program at Suwon. Methods: The study sample included 156 nursing students. A self-report questionnaire was used to assess the data. The data was analyzed using the SPSS/WIN program for descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Most of the students preferred lectures rather than discussion or team projects as a teaching method. Students preferred deliberating, sensing, and the use of visuals for their learning style. In addition, they favored sequential learning over comprehensive learning. Self directed learning had better outcomes in 3rd and 4th year students than 1st or 2nd year students. Additionally, active learners and high achievers who had a good GPA showed higher self directed learning than the others. Conclusion: In order to maximize students' self-directed learning, study guidance will be necessary for freshmen and for some who experience difficulties in studying nursing courses. Nursing faculty members should pay close attention to facilitate student's self directed learning, and encourage more discussions in the classes.
