Influence Factors of Positive Thinking and Academic Self-Efficacy on School Adjustment of Freshman Dental Hygiene Students (치위생(학)과 신입생의 긍정적 사고, 학업적 자기효능감이 학교생활 적응에 미치는 영향요인)

  • In this study, the positive thinking, academic self-efficacy, and school adjustment of freshman dental hygiene students were identified. The correlation between each variable was identified and the influencing factors were investigated. Data collection was conducted from October 1 to October 21, 2019 on 213 freshman dental hygiene students in Gyeonggi-do, Chungcheong-do, Jeolla-do, and Gyeongsang-do regions. According to the study, the significant influence of freshman dental hygiene students' school adjustment was in the order of academic self-efficacy, positive thinking, and career program experience, and the most influential factors were academic self-efficacy, and the regression model explained was 47.7%. Since this study has been investigated and conducted on some freshman dental hygiene students, there is a limit to generalizing the results, subsequent studies will require continuous study of various variables for positive thinking and academic self-efficiency to school adjustment. However, based on this study, it is meaningful that it can be used as data to supplement the prior study related to school adjustment, and by presenting factors related to the school adjustment of freshman dental hygiene students, it is thought that it became basic data that confirmed the necessity of developing the school adjustment program.

The relationship between physical·mental health and life stress in dental hygiene freshman (치위생과 신입생의 신체·정신건강과 대학 생활 스트레스와의 관계)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between psychosocial stress and depression symptoms in dental hygiene freshman. Methods : A self-reported questionnaire of 45 questions was filled out by 207 dental hygiene students in Gyeongnam from December 9 to 11, 2013. Data were analyzed using SPSS WIN 18.0 program for descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA. Results : Religion tended to influence on positive effects on academic stress because those having religion had less academic stress. Economic condition also influenced on physical and mental stress in the students($8.52{\pm}5.63$)(p=0.000). Low economic status influenced on academic problems(p=0.022), family problems(p=0.014), rational relationship problems(p=0.002), and interpersonal problems(p=0.007). There was no significant difference between future problems(p=0.125) and self-efficacy(p=0.076). The physical symptoms included digestive disorders($16.73{\pm}5.37$), cardiac symptoms($14.61{\pm}5.51$), headache($9.46{\pm}3.59$), insomnia($8.32{\pm}3.67$) (p=0.000). The mental symptoms included negative emotions($15.07{\pm}3.94$)(p=0.000). Conclusions : In order to reduce the psychosocial stress symptoms in dental hygiene freshman, it is important to develop the stress debriefing program in the future.

A Study on Ethical Job Behavior Level of Some Dental Hygiene Students

  • The purpose of this study was to find the ethical values of dental hygiene students, to establish the right ethical values of the students, and to provide a fundamental material for the ethical education direction and curriculum of the students. In order to examine the general characteristics and ethical job behavior level among dental hygiene students, a research was conducted from 1st April 2017 to $30^{th}$ June 2017 through selecting freshman, sophomore, junior and senior students currently enrolled in the department of dental hygiene at 5 different colleges as the subjects. Statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS 22. The frequency analysis was used to examine their general characteristics. The independent t-test was used to examine their ethical job behavior according to their religion, hospital practice experience and code of ethics as a dental hygienist, and the one-way ANOVA was used to examine their ethical job behavior according to grade-specific characteristics. Lastly, the Scheffe's post hoc test was conducted. The significance level was 0.05. Given the results, ethical job behavior was significantly different between the group of students with religion, the group of students with hospital practice experience, different school year students, and the group of students aware of code of ethics as a dental hygienist.

Study on the perception of health science college students about the personal protection of dental personnels (치과 의료종사자의 개인보호장구 착용에 대한 보건계열 대학생의 인식)

  • Objectives : This study was performed to enhance infection control and to establish the fundamental and practical improvement by the survey on personal protection of dental personnels with health science college students. Methods : We performed the survey with 585 individual students affiliated with health science in Jeonbuk province and statistically analyzed by SPSS 12.0 program. Results : The frequencies of the clinic gown as a personal protection were 96.0% of dentists (p<0.01) and 88.0% of dental hygienists (p<0.05) respectively in college-associated dental hospital when we compared with institution scale. The frequencies of the medical gloves as a compulsory personal protection were 47.2% of dentists and 34.6% of dental hygienists respectively (p<0.001). The frequencies of the medical mask as a compulsory personal protection were 84.0% of dentists (p<0.001) and 52.2% of dental hygienists (p<0.05) respectively shown by freshman students. The frequencies of the safety glasses as a compulsory personal protection were 12.3% of dentists and 2.5% of dental hygienists shown by freshman students (p<0.001). Conclusions : The results reflect that current dental personnel's concern of personal protection need to be increased continuously in accordance with current demands and eventually suggest their effort to put their action on personal protection in their dental office.

Relationship between job searching efficacy and employment stress in the dental hygiene students (치위생과 학생의 구직효능감과 취업스트레스의 관련성)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship between job searching efficacy and employment stress in the dental hygiene students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 235 dental hygiene students in Gyeongnam from September to October 30, 2015. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects (5 items), employment stress (22 items) and job searching self-efficacy (27 items). Data were analyzed by SPSS 20. program. Results: The lower grade students tended to have higher education service quality. Those who were dissatisfied with major had higher schoolwork stress. Poor economic status had a relation to family stress. The employment stress has an effect on job motivation, self-esteem, job skill, and human relation skill. Conclusions: It is necessary to reduce employment stress of the dental hygiene students. That should be provide support of education environment control, opportunity of self-development on improve the self esteem and human relation skill, from freshman to broaden understanding of the majors, for the employment stress coping skill.

The Effect of Self-efficacy and Occupational Value on Major Satisfaction in Dental Hygiene Students (치위생학 전공 대학생들의 자기효능감과 직업가치가 전공만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of self-efficacy and occupational value in major satisfaction in dental hygiene students. The subjects were 236 dental hygiene students in Gyeonggi-do and Chungcheongnam-do. They filled out self-reported questionnaires that consisted of general characteristics of subject, self-efficacy, occupational value, and major satisfaction. Data were analyzed using SPSS WIN 18.0 and Amos. V18. Sophomore's curriculum satisfaction and perceive satisfaction were higher than freshman's. Group of high self-efficacy was higher than average and low groups in major satisfaction. Group of internal occupational value was higher than group of external and neutral occupational value in curriculum satisfaction, perception satisfaction, and total major satisfaction. The most effective factor on major satisfaction of dental hygiene students was self-efficacy.

A Study on the Motivation to Choose a Major and Satisfaction with Social Media Usage in Dental Hygiene Freshman (일부 치위생과 신입생의 학과 선택 동기와 학과 SNS 이용 만족도에 관한 연구)

  • Background: Due to the declining number of students preparing for university entrance exams , the quota of universities has been decreasing continuously. This situation became increasingly diverse as new media used online, mobile, and PR tools to continuously invite students. This study is aimed at offering the helpful data to plan an effective PR strategy by analyzing the correlation between the major selection and satisfaction of the department's social media usage among freshmen majoring in dental hygiene. Methods: The collected data from the self-reported survey with freshmen were analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 program. The survey items were motive to select the major, social media platform that subjects used, reasons to use the media, time to visit the department's social media platform, and satisfaction level on the department's social media platform, using a 5-point Likert Scale. Results: The reasons for choosing a major were given by 32.2% and 15.9% respondents, respectively, as the vision after graduation and practice facilities. 39.9% and 31.4% used Instagram and YouTube for social media platforms, respectively, for using social media platform; 26.9% and 26.3% visited the department's social media before and after entering the university, respectively; 46.4% and 24.9% used Instagram and YouTube for department social media; and they generally satisfied with the contents of the department's social media. 40.9% of them said that information from the department's social media was useful. 33.8% of them said the information from the department's social media exceeded their expectations. 46.8% of them answered that the department's social media made the department's image positive. 33.4% got interested in the major more due to the department's social media. According to 32.1% of respondents, the department's social media was helpful in deciding on a major. With 35.4%, a positive correlation was discovered between the department's practice facilities and satisfaction on the department's social media. Conclusion: It is thought that the department's social media should try continuously by uploading the contents to meet the users' needs on a regular basis and seeking the plans to be able to collect various opinions using surveys through the related social media so that students can select the major and, moreover, lead the positive direction to adapt the university life under the unfamiliar environment after admission.

Relationship between Job searching efficacy and employment stress of the allied health students (보건계열 학생의 구직효능감과 취업스트레스의 관련성)

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between job searching efficacy and employment stress of the allied health students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 269 allied health students in Gyeongnam from September to October 30, 2015. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects(5 items), employment stress(22 items), job searching efficacy(27 items). Data were analyzed by SPSS 20. program. Results: In case of the man, good economic level, dissatisfied with major have higher job searching efficacy in allied health students. Department of physical therapy students had higher employment stress. The employment stress has an effect on higher self-esteem, higher employment in information technology, in case of the man, lower career adopted a capability. Conclusions: It is necessary to reduce employment stress of the allied health students. That should be provide support of economical, innovation curriculum development opportunity of self-development on improve the self esteem and employment in information technology, interview skill, writing resume from freshman to broaden understanding of the majors, for the employment stress coping skill.
