Sixty crossbred Anglo-Nubian goats (growing females), 18-24 mo of age, with a mean pre-experimental live weight of $20.9{\pm}0.44kg$ were used to investigate voluntary dry matter intake (DMI) and digestibility of supplements of Leucaena leucocephala (LL) leaves to a basal diet of guinea grass. The experiment was a 3 forms of presentation: fresh, wilted and $dry{\times}4$ levels of supplementation: 10, 20, 30 and 40% of total forage allowance with LL leaves. The goats were assigned based on weight and age to one of the twelve diets in a randomized manner and each level had five animals (replicates) per diet for 56 days. The form of presentation of LL leaves had effects on dry matter (DM) and nutrient composition. DM and NDF were higher in the dry LL leaves (p<0.05). In the diets, CP increased as the level of supplementation with LL leaves increased (p<0.05). Mean CP was similar in the fresh ($14.8{\pm}3.5%$), wilted ($14.3{\pm}3.3%$) and dry forms ($13.9{\pm}3.1%$). Neutral detergent fibre (NDF) decreased linearly (p<0.05) with increase in levels of supplementation. Organic matter (OM) followed the trend of CP concentration (p<0.05). Drying was observed to reduce the availability of CP at the different levels of supplementation and subsequently this affected the NDF of the diets. DM intake of the goats on the fresh and wilted LL leaves was significantly higher (p<0.05) than in those on the dry LL leaves. DM intake of the basal diet was observed to decrease as the level of supplementation (p<0.05) increased regardless of the form of presentation of LL. Growth rate was best (p<0.05) on the fresh form followed by wilted and the least in the dry form. Growth rate decreased linearly (p<0.05) with increase in the level of supplementation in the dry form. The form of presentation and level of supplementation influenced DM, CP and OM digestibility (p<0.05). Except for NDF, the digestibility of DM, CP and OM were better (p<0.05) in the goats on fresh LL leaves compared to the wilted and dry leaves. Based on the data on DMI, growth rate and apparent nutrient digestibility coefficients, the results suggest that LL leaves is best utilized when fed fresh or wilted to goats. In the dry form of presentation, the best level of supplementation without a reduction in voluntary DMI and growth rate is the 20%. In the fresh and wilted form, LL leaves could be fed up to the 40% level with improved DMI, growth rate and nutrient utilization.
A study was carried out to investigate the possibility of acclimation of Coptis japonica Makino in Korea. Coptis japonica could be grown within 4 years as a medicinal crude drug if it is cultivated in the area of mountain facing north(300m above sea level) with 70% light interception and appropriate soil texture. It is to be noted that the propagation of the plant is more important than the yield of berberine because the berberine contents do not change in different conditions. The results were as follows; 1. The germination rates of the seeds by covering with the pine tree leaves were the highest and averaged 63%. 2. The germination rates of dry seeds were not affected in spite of low temperature and $GA_3$ treatment. 3. The germination rates of the seeds stored in moistured sand were averaged 85%, but in dry state, they were not germinated. 4. The number of leaves and fresh weight of Coptis japonica from the area of mountain facing north were increased significantly. 5. The growth and fresh weight of Coptis japonica were reduced in clay. 6. The best growth was obtained under 70% light interception. It is possible to intercrop between evergreen trees. 7. The foliage dressing did not affect the growth. 8. The number of leaves and fresh weight were increased from the 3rd year, and the average weight of rhizomes was 5.7g in 4th year. 9. The berberine contents of the rhizomes of Coptis japonica under various treatment conditions ranged from 9 to 10%. Coptidis Rhizoma from this study and from Korean market showed much higher berberine contents than those from Japanese market.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of early $CO_2$ enrichment during seedling stage on long-term $CO_2$ enrichment after transplanting in the culture of pat-choi (Brassica campesris L), spinach (Spinacia oeracea L.), and leaf lettuce (Lactuca saliva L). During seedling stage, $CO_2$enrichment had significantly higher fresh and dry weight and leaf area of the top parts (above ground) of all three plant species than the control (no $CO_2$ enrichment). About 53%, 70% , and 40% increase in fresh weight of the top parts of pak-choi, spinach, and leaf lettuce were observed, respectively. Also, in seedling stage, dry weights of roots of spinach and leaf lettuce were significantly increased by early $CO_2$ enrichment. Relative fresh weight increment, compared with fresh weight of the control, in the top parts of roll three plants showed the highest values in 10 days after $CO_2$ enrichment treatment. In the long-term $CO_2$ enrichment experiment, early $CO_2$ enrichmented plants had 20% greater leaf area than the control in all three leafy vegetables. Fresh and dry weights of top parts of early $CO_2$-treated plants were also increased from 10 to 20%, as compared with the control plants. However, these increasement rates in the long-term $CO_2$ enrichment were lower than those seedling stage, which had 30-60% increment-rates. After transplanting, photosynthetic rate of each leafy vegetable in the control treatment slowly decreased, but those rates of early $CO_2$ enriched plants rapidly decreased.
The crops recommended for the plant factory system are diverse. The importance of planting density in the plant factory is being recognized. The objective of this study was to determine the optimal planting density for growth and quality of kohlrabi in a closed-type plant factory system. The kohlrabi was grown under fluorescent lamps and nutrient film technique system. The growth and quality of kohlrabi were investigated under four different planting densities ($22plants/m^2(15{\times}30cm)$, $27plants/m^2(15{\times}25cm)$, and $33plants/m^2(15{\times}20cm)$). There were no significant interactions between Shoot fresh and dry weights per plant or bulb stem fresh and dry weights per plant and planting density. Shoot fresh and dry weight per area or bulb stem fresh and dry weight per area were the highest at $33plants/m^2$. There were no significant interactions between plant height, leaf area, photosynthetic rate, hardness, and chlorophyll content and planting density. Significant differences in Bulb stem height and diameter, and brix were observed. Bulb stem height and diameter and brix of kohlrabi were the highest at $22plants/m^2$. Based on our results, we conclude that the optimal planting density is $33plants/m^2$ for growth of kohlrabi, however, the optimal planting density is $22plants/m^2$ for quality of kohlrabi in a closed-type plant factory system.

Modeling the consumer demand of fresh meat requires its distinct feature which other types of food product does not have. Most of the fresh meat products are likely to be unbranded, bought on a weight basis and affected by macro shocks such as seasonality, holiday effect and the disease incidence. Furthermore, consumers tend to purchase multiple categories of fresh meat in a week. Therefore, we apply a multiple discrete/continuous model on fresh meat consumption data to study the effect of macro shocks on fresh meat sales as well as of price change. As a result shows, Each fresh meat is relatively more likely to be bought in peak season of each fresh meat compared with imported pork which is set as a 'reference category' in this analysis. For clarity of the effect of disease incidence, we perform further analysis regarding the effect of livestock disease on fresh meat purchase probability. It shows that the avian flu in 2014 has strong negative impact on the purchase probability of chicken and the foot-and-mouth disease has negative impact on the purchase probability of pork and beef for part of outbreak periods.

This study was aimed to promote evergreen ferns native to Korea as a material for interior landscape by investigate effects of light quality on the growth of Cyrtomium falcatum and Rumohra aristata, in an indoor environment that artificial light was used, especially. Result of experiments are as follows; 1. Wavelengths were measured as control(=570~580nm), red(=600~610nm), yellow(=550~580nm), green(=500~510nm) and blue(=430~440nm) between different color film. The order of photon flux density was red>yellow>control>green>blue decreased. 2. Although there was no difference in the growth of Cyrtomium falcatum depending on light quality, in case of fronds with sori and new fronds, there were highest under red film. Fresh weight was no significant in all treatments, but dry weight was increased with green>control>yellow>blue>red in order. 3. In case of Rumohra aristata, there was no difference in its growth, however, number of total fronds was highest under green film. Although fresh weight was increased with yellow film, dry weight was highest under green film.

The biochemical nature of the protein constituents of six year old fresh Panax ginseng root was studied. Total protein constituents were extracted with phosphate buffer of pH 7.4, ionic strength of 0.1 and fractionated by ultrafiltration using four different membranes which cut down the materials of molecular weight of 500, 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000, respectively. Each fraction was subjected to ion exchange chromatography using DEAE - cellulose to isolate component proteins. The protein fraction larger than molecular weight of 10,000 was refractionated by the method of ammonium sulfate precipitation. The electrophoresis of the refractionated protein constituents was performed. The amino acid composition of the protein constituents was determined by gas- liquid chromatography. From the results, it could be summarized that eleven different protein constituents smaller than molecular weight of 10,000 were isolated from the fresh Panax ginseng root. At least eleven different protein constituents larger than molecular weight of 10,000 were identified from the electrophoretic patterns. These protein costituents seem to be compounded of all or some of five different subunits.
These studies were carried out to clarify the effects of black P.E. mulching and planting density on the growth and rhizome yield of Jihwang #1, a new high yielding Rehmannia glutinosa variety. Emergence ratio was higher 3.1% in mulching than in non-mulching, but was not affected by planting density. Plant height and fresh leaf weight per plant were increased by mulching and at lower planting density. However, the fresh leaf weight per unit area was increased at higher planting density. Dry rhizome weight was increased 28% in mulching than that of non-mulching. Dry rhizome weight per plant was increased, but that of per unit area was decreased at lower planting density.
This study was conducted to examine the yield of lotus leaves and roots per one native white lotus grown in Hoesan, Muan of Jeonnam districts, which were promoted by Muan-Gun, Jeonnam as a local speciality. We planted the rhizomes with 2 internodes in a rubber pot in the middle of April. Then on September, 24, 2008, we dug out the main rhizomes and it had grown by 810cm. From the data, the leaf area was $34,442\;cm^2$, the fresh leaf weight was 1,230g, and the dry leaf weight was 235.4g. The weight of the edible fresh stalk and dry weight leaf were 1,325g and 164.3g. Yield of the white lotus root were 1,480g on Sept. 4, 3,880g on Sept. 20 and 4,172g on Oct. 18. Native white lotus are able to be harvested early as September, however, it is be better that it is harvested in the middle of October based on the yield.

This study is mainly concerned with phenomenon of cavitation-erosion on the several materials and corrosive liquids which were applied with vibrator (suggested by ASTM G-32, 20KHZ, 24{$mu}m$).The main results obtained are summarized as follows ; (1) The maximum erosion rate by cavitation erosion in both of fresh-water and sea-water appeared to be proportioned to their hardness and tensile strength. (2) Cavitation weight loss and rate of cast iron in sea-water condition were greater (approximately 3 times) than that in distilled-water condition, however in case of stainless and brass the cavitation weight loss and their rates were not so different in both of their conditions. (3) Cavitation weight loss of composite materials were shown as below on this test, DuraTough DL : Weight loss in sea-water condition were greater (approximately 2.3 times) than it's fresh-water condition. (4) As the result of observation with digital camea of specimens, the main tendency of cavitation erosion for metals, was that small damaged holes causing by cavitation e개sion was appeared with radial pattern, and composites materials was that small damaged holes were appeared randomly.
