Control of a Single Phase Unified Power Quality Conditioner-Distributed Generation Based Input Output feedback Linearization

  • This paper describes a novel structure for single phase Unified Power Quality Conditioner-Distributed Generation (UPQC-DG) with direct grid connected DC-AC converter for low DC output DG systems which can be used not only for compensation of power quality problems but also for supplying of load power partly. This converter has been composed of one full-bridge inverter, one three winding high frequency transformer with galvanic isolation and two cycloconverters. Proper control based on Input Output feedback Linearization is used to tracking the reference signals. The simulation and experimental results are presented to confirm the validity of the proposed approach.

  • This paper proposes a new type of piezoactuator-driven valve system. The piezoceramic actuator bonded to both sides of a flexible beam surface makes a movement required to control the pressure at the flapper-nozzle of a pneumatic valve system. After establishing a dynamic model, an appropriate size of the valve system is designed and manufactured. Subsequently, a robust H$_{\infty}$ control algorithm is formulated in order to achieve accurate tracking control of the desired pressure. The controller is experimentally realized and control performance for the sinusoidal pressure trajectory is presented in time domain. The control bandwidth of the valve system, which directly represents the fastness, is also evaluated in the frequency domain.

  • This paper presents a multirate state feedback control (MRSFC) method for systems sensitive to disturbance and noise based on the multirate estimator design using the current estimator. MRSFC updates the controller output slower than the measurement sampling frequency of system output by a lifting factor R=T$\sub$c//T$\sub$s/. The closed-loop MRSFC system is less sensitive to disturbance and noise due to filtering effect than the conventional single-rate control system. The multirate estimator gain is obtained from solving a conventional pole placement problem such that MRSFC has the same spectrum of eigenvalues in the s-plane as the single-rate control. We applied the proposed multirate state feedback controller to a galvanometer servo system. Simulation and experimental results show that settling and tracking performances are improved compared with a conventional single-rate pole placement control (PPC).

  • A piezoelectric actuator yields hysteresis effect due to its composed ferroelectric. Hysteresis nonlinearty is neglected when a piezoelectric actuator moves with short stroke. However when it moves with long stroke and high frequency, the hysteresis nonlinearty can not be neglected. The hysteresis nonlinearty of piezoelectric actuator degrades the control performance in precision position control. In this paper, in order to improve the control performance of piezoelectric actuator, an inverse modeling scheme is proposed to compensate the hysteresis nonlinearty problem.   • This paper analyzes complex vector current control for the enhanced cross-coupling compensation in accordance with parameter variation in grid-connected inverter system, and verifies through simulation and experiment. Complex vector current control is performed in the synchronous reference frame through d-q transformation. It generates cross-coupling components with rotating nominal angular frequency. In general, cross-coupling elements are compensated by decoupling terms added to output of conventional decoupling PI controller. But, it is impossible to compensate them perfectly which transient response is especially deteriorated such as large overshoot and slow tracking, when variation of grid impedance or measurement error occurs. However, complex vector current control can improve stability and response characteristic of current control regardless of the situation as before. Decoupling controller and complex vector controller are represented through complex forms, and these controllers are analyzed by using frequency response in s-domain, respectively. It is verified that complex vector controller has more superior response characteristic than decoupling controller through MATALB, PSIM and experimental in 5kW grid-connected inverter when L filter parameter is varied from 1.1mH to increase double, 2.2mH.

  • In this paper, we compose of the utility interactive photovoltaic(PV) generation system with a PWM stepdown chopper and a current source inverter. The stepdown chopper is controlled by the several gate pulses (twice frequency of utility voltage, square pulse and without the chopper) of chopper part to reduce pulsation of DC current and size of DC reactor. PV current only is measured for maximum power point tracking without any influence on the variation of insolation and temperature. Therefore, we can control modulation factor of the chopper to operate at maximum power point of solar cell. And, the utility interactive photovoltaic generation system supplies an AC power to the load and the utility power system.

  • With the increased size and flexibility of the tower and blades, structural vibrations are becoming a limiting factor towards the design of even larger and more powerful wind turbines. Research into the use of vibration mitigation devices in the turbine tower has been carried out but the use of dampers in the blades has yet to be investigated in detail. Mitigating vibrations will increase the design life and hence economic viability of the turbine blades and allow for continual operation with decreased downtime. The aim of this paper is to investigate the effectiveness of Semi-Active Tuned Mass Dampers (STMDs) in reducing the edgewise vibrations in the turbine blades. A frequency tracking algorithm based on the Short Time Fourier Transform (STFT) technique is used to tune the damper. A theoretical model has been developed to capture the dynamic behaviour of the blades including the coupling with the tower to accurately model the dynamics of the entire turbine structure. The resulting model consists of time dependent equations of motion and negative damping terms due to the coupling present in the system. The performances of the STMDs based vibration controller have been tested under different loading and operating conditions. Numerical analysis has shown that variation in certain parameters of the system, along with the time varying nature of the system matrices has led to the need for STMDs to allow for real-time tuning to the resonant frequencies of the system.

  • In this paper, we present a effective method to control robotic systems by an iterative learning algorithm. This method is based on the concepts of the learning control law which is introduced in this paper, that is, avoidance of using derivative of system state and ignorance of high frequency influence in system performance. By means of the betterment of performance due to the improvement of estimated unknown information, the learning control algorithm compels the system to gradually approach in desired trajectory, and eventually the tracking error asymptotically converges upon zero. In order to verify its utility, one degree of freedom of manipulator has been used in the experiments and the results illustrate this control scheme is very effective.
