This paper proposes a new type of high-frequency directional valve controlled by the piezostack actuator associated with displacement amplifier. As a first step, a dynamic model of directional valve which can operate at 200 Hz with a flow rate of 12 litter/min is derived by considering pressure drop and flow force. As a second step, an appropriate piezostack is selected by considering actuation force as well as field-dependent displacement. Subsequently, in order to control spool displacement and flow rate a proportional-derivative(PD) controller is designed based on the 3rd-order valve system. Control performances such as sinusoidal trajectory tracking of the spool displacement in time domain are evaluated. In addition, the field-dependent flow rate is also presented to verify the required performance of the valve system.
Flexibility in the power control of ultrasonic transducers has remained a challenge for cleaning applications. This paper introduces a modification of the existing piezoelectric ceramic transducer (PCT) circuit to increase the range of operation through its impedance characteristics. The output power is controlled using the asymmetrical voltage-cancellation (AVC) method. Together with a phase-locked loop control, the switching frequency of the inverter is automatically adjusted to maintain a lagging phase angle under load-parameter variations during the cleaning process. With the proposed modification, the region of the zero-voltage switching (ZVS) operation is extended, which results in a wider range of output power control. A hardware prototype is constructed and the control algorithm is implemented using an STM32F4 microcontroller. Simulation and experimental results are provided to verify the proposed method for a 50-W PCT. The operating frequency and output power ranges under study are 37 - 41 kHz and 15.8 - 50 W, respectively.
This paper presents performance analyses of three types of the cylindrical-type ER(electro-rheo-logical) valves, which have different electrode length and width but same electrode area. Following the composition of silicone oil-based ER fluid, the field-dependent yield stresses are obtained from experimental investigation on the Bingham property of the ER fluid. The ER valve which is dependent on the applied electric field is devised and its theoretical model is derived. On the basis of the pressure-drop analysis, three types of the ER valves are designed and manufactured. After experimentally evaluation field-dependent pressure drops, PI controller is formulated to achieve tracking control on desired pressure drop. The controller is then experimentally implemented and tracking control performance is presented in order to demonstrate superior controllability of the ER valve. In addition, the response characteristic of the ER valve with respect to the excitation frequency of the electric fiedls is provided to show the feasibility of practical application.
A GNSS(Global Navigation Satellite System) using GPS provides us with very useful information concerning the positioning of users in many sectors such as transportation, social services, the justice system and customs services, public works, search and rescue systems and leisure. A GNSS using the Galileo satellite is due to work in 2008 and expected to be used in various fields such as aviation, marine transportation, land surveying, resources development precise agriculture, telemetics, and so on. In this paper, we discuss the implementation and testing of a combined GPS/Galileo receiver which we named KSTAR V1.0. Each tracking module of GPS/Galileo dual mode correlator has the five track arms which consist of Very Early code, Early code, Prompt code, late code, and Very late code. Each of 24 tracking modules can be assigned to GPS and/or Galileo signal by changing mode selection register. The basic correlator integration dump period is set to 1ms for GPS C/A code and fast Galileo signal tracking. The performance of the developed combined GPS/Galileo receiver was tested and evaluated using the IF (Intermediated Frequency)-level GPS/Galileo signal generator.
This paper proposes the modeling and control strategy to track the MPPs of hybrid PV and Wind power systems, using a new dual input boost converter. The dual input power conditioning system with an independent MPPT control scheme is introduced with minimum number of circuit elements in order to reduce the switching loss, size and cost of the system. Since the operating conditions for the PV and Wind power systems are very distinct from each other, an efficient and superior control system is required to track the MPPs of both renewable sources with the use of a simply-structured single-ended single-inductor converter. The design of Power-Conditioning System (PCS) and detail control strategy are presented in this paper. To provide independent tracking of MPPs, a variable duty-cycle control strategy is employed for the wind system and a variable frequency strategy is employed for the PV system. Finally, the proposed dual-input converter for hybrid power conditioning system is implemented and the hardware test results are presented. From the hardware experiment, it is concluded that the proposed system successfully tracks the MPPs of both of the renewable power systems independently.
The purpose of this paper is to improve the hysteresis characteristics of a stack type piezoelectric actuator using system identification and tracking control. Recently, several printing methods that are cost less and faster than previous semiconductor processes have been developed for the production of electric paper and RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification). The system proposed in this study prints by spraying the molten metal. And this system consist of a nozzle, heating furnace, operating actuator and an XYZ 3-axis stage. As an operating system, the piezoelectric(PZT) actuator is a very useful tool for position control of the metal printing system. However, the PZT actuator has a hysteresis nonlinearity due to the ferroelectric characteristics of the PZT element. This hysteresis causes problem position control characteristics in the system and deteriorates the performance of the system. In this study, an investigation was conducted to improve the hysteresis characteristics of the PZT actuator that has an output displacement for the input voltage. In order to reduce the hysteresis nonlinearity of the PZT actuator, this proposed a inverse hysteresis model and a mathematic modeling method that can express the geometric relationship between voltage and displacement. In addition, system identification and PID control methods were examined. Also, it was confirmed that the proposed control strategy gives good tracking performance.
PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) current control is a most inner loop of electromechanical driving systems and it plays a foundation role in the hierarchy's control loop of several mechanical machine systems. In this paper, a simple RMRAC control scheme for the PMSM is proposed in the synchronous frame. In the synchronous current model, the input signal is composed of as a calculated voltage by adaptive laws and system disturbances. The gains of feed-forward and feed-back controller are estimated by the proposed e-modification methods respectively, where the disturbances are assumed as filtered current tracking errors. After the estimation of the disturbances from the tracking errors, the corresponding voltage is fed forward to control input to compensate for the disturbances. The proposed method is robust to high frequency disturbances and has a fast dynamic response to time varying reference current trajectory. It also shows a good real-time performance duo to it's simplicity of control structure. Through the simulations considering several cases of external disturbances and experimental results, efficiency of the proposed method is verified
The frequency and phase angle of the utility voltage are important in many industrial systems. this paper present a detailed analysis of single-phase digital PLL control for utility connected systems. and its performance under utility conditions with noise is discussed. The experimental results demonstrate phase tracking capability in the single-phase grid-connected operation.
In a conventional power system, the frequency is recovered to the nominal value by the inertial, primary, and secondary responses of the synchronous generators (SGs) after a large disturbance such as a generator tripping. For a power system with high wind penetration, the system inertia is significantly reduced due to the maximum power point tracking control based operation of the variable speed wind generators (WGs). This paper proposes a virtual inertial control for a wind power plant (WPP) based on the maximum rate of change of frequency to release more kinetic energy stored in the WGs. The performance of the proposed algorithm is investigated in a model system, which consists of a doubly fed induction generator-based WPP and SGs using an EMTP-RV simulator. The results indicate that the proposed algorithm can improve the frequency nadir after a generator tripping. In addition, the algorithm can lead the instant of a frequency rebound and help frequency recovery after the frequency rebound.
This paper describes control principles of the piezoelectric ultrasonic motor which is operated by the ultrasonic vibration generated by the piezoelectric element. The piezoelectric ultrasonic motor has excellent characteristics such as compact size, noiseless motion, low speed, high torque and controllability, and has been recently applied for the practical utilization in industrial, consumer, medical and automotive fields. In this paper, the design of two-phase push-pull inverter for driving the piezoelectric ultrasonic motor is described, and a new control method of automatic resonant frequency tracking using PLL(Phase-Locked Loop) technique is mainly presented. the experimental results by this inverter system for driving the piezoelectric ultrasonic motor are illustrated herein. The inverter system with PLL technique improved the speed stability of the piezoelectric ultrasonic motor.
