Inductive power transfer (IPT) systems for electric vehicles generally require zero phase angle (ZPA) frequency tracking control to achieve high efficiency. Current sensors are used for ZPA frequency tracking control. However, the use of current sensors causes several problems, such as switching noise, degrading control performance, and control complexity. To solve these problems, this study proposes ZPA frequency tracking control without current sensors. Such control enables ZPA frequency tracking without real-time control and achieves stable zero voltage switching operation closed to ZPA frequency within all coupling coefficient and load ranges. The validity of the proposed control algorithm is verified on LCCL-S topology with a 3.3 kW rating IPT experimental test bed. Simulation verification is also performed.
In this paper, we implement linear-quadratic-Gaussian based vector tracking loop (LQG-VTL) instead of conventional extended Kalman filter based vector tracking loop (EKF-VTL). The LQG-VTL can improve the performance compared to the EKF-VTL by generating optimal control input at a specific performance index. Performance analysis is conducted through two factors, frequency thermal noise and frequency dynamic stress error, which determine total frequency tracking error. We derive the thermal noise and the dynamic stress error formula in the LQG-VTL. From frequency tracking error analysis, we can determine control gain matrix in the LQG controller and show that the frequency tracking error of the LQG-VTL is lower than that of the EKF-VTL in all C/N0 ranges. The simulation results show that the LQG-VTL improves performance by 30% in Doppler tracking, so the LQG-VTL can extend pre-integration time longer and track weaker signals than the EKF-VTL. Therefore, the LQG-VTL algorithm is more robust than the EKF-VTL in weak signal environments.
In this paper, an frequency tracking algorithm for weak signal tracking is proposed. The proposed frequency tracking algorithm uses a FMS (Fast Minus Slow) discriminator for frequency error estimation. This frequency tracking algorithm shows good frequency estimation performance under weak signal condition and is a computationally efficient for embedded software GNSS receiver. The software GNSS receiver implementing the proposed weak signal tracking algorithms could track GPS signal down to - 159dBm signal strength in the signal generator test and real GPS signal under dense urban condition.
Wireless power transfer (WPT) technology is now recognized as an efficient means of transferring power without physical contact. However, frequency detuning will greatly reduce the transmission power and efficiency of a WPT system. To overcome the difficulties associated with the traditional frequency-tracking methods, this paper proposes a Direct Phase Control (DPC) approach, based on the Second-Order Generalized Integrator Phase-Locked Loop (SOGI-PLL), to provide accurate frequency-tracking for WPT systems. The DPC determines the phase difference between the output voltage and current of the inverter in WPT systems, and the SOGI-PLL provides the phase of the resonant current for dynamically adjusting the output voltage frequency of the inverter. Further, the stability of this control method is analyzed using the linear system theory. The performance of the proposed frequency-tracking method is investigated under various operating conditions. Simulation and experimental results convincingly demonstrate that the proposed technique will track the quasi-resonant frequency automatically, and that the ZVS operation can be achieved.
This paper presents a load frequency control by optimal linear tracking, which can be well adapted to practical power systems with successive load disturbances. Conventional Load Frequency Controls (LEC's) have a feedback control scheme of the state error deviated from the post-disturbance steady state. This requires the modification of reference everytime the system encounters load changes. In this study, a new feedback scheme of LEC is developed by using the optimal linear tracking method with a fixed reference. As a result, the proposed LFC, which requires no reference modification, can be efficiently applied to power systems with successive disturbances such as load changes due to the on-off operations of reclosers or feeder switches. Another feature of the proposed LFC is that it adopts an algorithm to calculate an optimal post-fault steady state with the consideration of control input changes. The proposed LFC has been tested for a 2-area power system, which shows that it can be well adapted to successive load disturbances with good frequency response.

Recently, wireless power transfer (WPT) via coupled magnetic resonances has attracted a lot of attention owing to its long operation distance and high efficiency. However, the WPT systems is over-coupling and a frequency splitting phenomenon occurs when resonators are placed closely, which leads to a decrease in the transfer power. To solve this problem, an adaptive frequency tracking control (AFTC) was used based on a closed-loop control scheme. An improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm was proposed with the AFTC to track the maximum power point in real time. In addition, simulations were carried out. Finally, a WPT system with the AFTC was demonstrated to experimentally validate the improved PSO algorithm and its tracking performance in terms of optimal frequency.
The studies published up to now, related to the correlation between spatial structure and visitors' behavior in a museum are rather relatively lacking when it comes to the in-depth consideration for the effect of the actual exhibition environment. So the main purpose of this study is to define the correlation between the light environment and the visitors' behavior. Towards this end, this study uses 'space syntax' to quantify the spatial structure with 'integration', 'connectivity' and 'control value'. Meanwhile, 'tracking score' and 'tracking frequency' were selected as the scope among the indices of behavior's analysis. The results of this study are as follows; First, integration and correlation of tracking score and tracking frequency are lowest when it comes to the extra large historical museums where the difference of intensity of illumination by each convex space. Meanwhile, the most considerable effect is exerted by control value. Compared to tracking score, tracking frequency is closely related to 'syntactic variables'. Second, visitors do not take the short cut the dark exhibition space even when very dark exhibition spaces continue after passing through relatively bright space. Analysis of visitors' behavior by control value in the exhibition space composed of this type of intensity of illumination environment is not valid. Third, visitors move to relatively brighter transitional space compared to the exhibition space with low intensity of illumination when passing through dark exhibition continually. Meanwhile, when visitors pass through the exhibition space there is some difference intensity of illumination they move to relatively dark exhibition center among the subsequent exhibition spaces. Accordingly, when the composition of exhibition space that continues onto the environment of low intensity of illumination is inevitable, differentiating intensity of illumination appropriately would be effective in inducing visit to the subsequent exhibition space.

In high dynamic situations, the GPS carrier tracking loop requires a wide bandwidth to track a carrier signal because the Doppler frequency changes more rapidly with time. However, a wide bandwidth allows noises within the bandwidth of the tracking loop to pass through the loop filter. As these noises are used in the numerical controlled oscillator(NCO), the carrier tracking loop of a GPS receiver shows a degraded performance in high dynamic situations. To solve this problem, an adaptive two-stage Kalman filter, which offers the NCO a less noisy phase error, can be used. This filter is based on a carrier phase dynamic model and can adapt to an incomplete dynamic model and a quickly changed Doppler frequency. The performance of the proposed tracking loop is verified by several simulations.
This paper suggests a design method of an improved phase control loop for tracking resonant frequency of solid type precision resonant gyroscope. In general, a low cost MEMS gyroscope adapts the automatic gain control loops by taking a velocity feedback configuration. This control technique for controlling the resonance amplitude shows a stable performance. But in terms of resonant frequency tracking, this technique shows an unreliable performance due to phase errors because the AGC method cannot provide an active phase control capability. For the resonance control loop design of a solid type precision resonant gyroscope, this paper presents a phase domain control loop based on linear PLL (Phase Locked Loop). In particular, phase control loop is exploited using a higher order PLL loop filter by extending the first order active PI (Proportion-Integral) filter. For the verification of the proposed loop design, a hemispherical resonant gyroscope is considered. Numerical simulation result demonstrates that the control loop shows a robust performance against initial resonant frequency gap between resonator and voltage control oscillator. Also it is verified that the designed loop achieves a stable oscillation even under the initial frequency gap condition of about 25 Hz, which amounts to about 1% of the natural frequency of a conventional resonant gyroscope.

This paper presents a capacitive power transfer (CPT) system using a Class-E resonant inverter. A Class-E resonant inverter is chosen because of its ability to perform DC-to-AC inversion efficiently while significantly reducing switching losses. The proposed CPT system consists of an efficient Class-E resonant inverter and capacitive coupling formed by two flat rectangular transmitter and receiver plates. To understand CPT behavior, we study the effects of various coupling distances on output power performance. The proposed design is verified through lab experiments with a nominal operating frequency of 1 MHz and 0.25 mm coupling gap. An efficiency of 96.3% is achieved. A simple frequency tracking unit is also proposed to tune the operating frequency in response to changes in the coupling gap. With this resonant frequency tracking unit, the efficiency of the proposed CPT system can be maintained within 96.3%-91% for the coupling gap range of 0.25-2 mm.
