  • In this paper, an efficient LP method ofr discrete harmonic spectra is proposed and discussed. A new efficient LP method is a combination of recursive and frequency selective LP. While the recursive LP provides better spectral matching in spectral hills, frequency selective LP eliminates numerical instability and improves spectral matching when the harmonics are confined in the low frequncy region. The proposed LP method is applied to the HILN coder. Simulation results using a verification model(VM) software for real audio signals show a definite trend of significant improvement.

  • Using Power Spectrum Analysis, conditions of parameter convergence for a Model Reference Adaptive Control (MRAC) system are described. The general Persistent Excitation (PE) condition given in time domain can be transformed to the positiveness of auto-correlation matrix which is represented in frequency domain by the spectra of reference input signal. For an MRAC system designed with relative degree one, the existence and the uniqueness of parameter nominal values due to the variation of input spectra can be analyzed by the PE condition in frequency domain. If the input signal has 2n spectra or more, it can be shown that the nominal values exist independent of adaptive gain, input amplitudes, and magnitudes or numbers of their spectra.

  • Dielectric and conductive frequency spectra in 0.01 Hz-13 MHz range have been measured for the composite consisting of PZT inclusions dispersed in $LiCIO_{4}$-doped polyerhylene oxide(Li_PEO) matrix with various volume fractions. The dielectric and conductive spectra of the composites revealed the relaxations related with electrode polarization and interfacial polarization. The observed spectra were reproduced using the empirical dielectric function and we could obtain various parameters related to the above two kinds of polarizations and dicussed about the parameters.

  • In this paper, using a wide-band AE sensor with the frequency range from 100[kHz] to 1.5[kHz], the frequency spectra of AE signals generated from the corona discharges of the needle-plane gap and from the partial discharges of an epoxy void were analyzed to determine the proper ultrasonic sensor with optimum frequency range according to the patterns of corona discharges. We also examined the propagation characteristics of AE signals in oil and the relationship between the magnitude of corona discharge and the magnitude of AE signals in peak-to-peak value under the application of 60[Hz] ac high-voltage. From these results, the main frequency spectra of AE signals emitted from the corona discharges of the needle-plane gap were about 130[kHz] by the fast fourier transform, but the main frequency spectra appeared to be 230[kHz] in the partial discharges of an epoxy void. The magnitude of AE signals was proportional to the magnitude of corona discharge and discharge current pulse with increasing the applied voltages.

  • Non-invasive and non-restrictive methods for measuring the physiological functions of the human body are useful for health care, security, and surveillance. In this paper, a new method that extracts human heartbeat information by utilizing ultra-wideband (UWB) impulse radar is proposed. The amplitude spectra of received radar pulses reflected from the human body are accumulated at specific time intervals, and chirp z-transform (CZT) is used to extract the heartbeat frequency from the amplitude spectra. The heartbeat frequency can be extracted with high-frequency resolution in the frequency band of the heartbeat of interest using CZT. Experimental results to verify the performance of the proposed method show that a highly accurate extraction of the heartbeat frequency is possible using this method.

  • In this paper, a frequency spectra of AE (acoustic emission) signals detected from the partial discharges of an epoxy resin void and a cast resin transformer in operating were analyzed to offer the proper frequency range of AE signals from the corona discharge for the purpose of AE sensor selection, From these results, a frequency spectra of AE signals emitted from the corona discharges in the void of an epoxy resin sample were about 190[kHz] to 220[kHz] by the FFT(fast fourier transform), A frequency spectra of AE signals emitted from a cast. resin transformer with non-load were appeared to be downward of about 140[kHz] by the FFT, and then a frequency spectra of AE signals emitted from the above of cast resin transformer with load were appeared to increase from about 190[kHz] to 220[kHz] by the FFT.

  • Acoustic emission spectra was analyzed to investigate the distribution of sound pressure in a 36 kHz sonoreactor. The sound pressure of fundamental frequency (f: 36 kHz), harmonics (2f: 72 kHz, 3f: 108 kHz, 4f: 144 kHz, 5f: 180 kHz, 6f: 216 kHz), and subharmonics (1.5f: 54 kHz, 2.5f: 90 kHz, 3.5f: 126 kHz, 4.5f: 162 kHz, 5.5f: 198 kHz, 6.5f; 234 kHz) was measured at every 5 cm from the ultrasonic transducer using a hydrophone and a spectrum analyzer. It was revealed that the input power of ultrasound, the application of mechanical mixing, and the concentration of SDS affected the sound pressure distributions of the fundamental frequency and total detected frequencies frequencies significantly. Moreover a linear relationship was found between the average total sound pressure and the degree of sonochemical oxidation while there was no significant linear relationship between the average sound pressure of fundamental frequency and the degree of sonochemical oxidation.

  • The optical and electrical properties of $C_{22}$-Quinolinium(TCNQ) Langmuir-Blodgett films have been studied depending on the annealing temperatures. The optimal properties were investigated using UV/visible(300-800[nm]) absorption spectra and FTIR(Fourier-transformed- infrared) absorption measurements. The electrical properties were investigated in a frequency range of 10[Hz]-13[MHz]. The UV/visible absorption spectra at room temperature show that there are four characteristic peaks at 320, 380, 494 and 678[nm]. These absorption peaks decrease very rapidly above the annealing temperature of 180[.deg. C], which is due to a structural change of TCNQ. The FTIR absorption measurements strongly support the result of the UV/visible absorption spectra, because the absorption peak of TCNQ- at 2181[$cm^{-1}$ /] also decreases above 140[.deg. C]. The frequency-dependent dielectric constant shows that there is a dielectric dispersion near 1[MHz] which is due to an orientational polarization of the molecules inside the film. The overall frequency-dependent dielectric constant is higher near 80[.deg. C]. It may be due to a softness of the alkyl chains.s.

  • Retrieving the equivalent electromagnetic parameters (permittivity and permeability) plays an important role in the research and application of metamaterials. Frequency dispersion of magnetic permeability has been theoretically predicted in a metamaterial composed of cut wire pairs (CWP) separated by dielectric substrate on the basis of circuit theory. Magnetic resonance resulting from antiparallel currents between the CWP is observed at the frequency of minimum reflection loss (corresponding to absorption peak) and effective resonator size can be determined. Having calculated the circuit parameters (inductance L, capacitance C) and resonance frequency from CWP dimension, the frequency dispersion of permeability of Lorentz like magnetic response can be predicted. The simulated resonance frequency and permeability spectra can be explained well on the basis of the circuit theory of an RLC resonator.

  • Structural changes of cellulosic fibres during the papermaking process were studied by analysis of FTIR spectra collected by the transmission method. The spectra were obtained from a carefully prepared handsheet, using a special infra-red (IR) cell suitable for evacuating the sample. The deconvolution technique was also applied for sharpening the FTIR spectra in the frequency range of the OH and CH stretching bands, which gave detailed information on the structural changes of cellulose. The intensity of some bands was decreased by predrying the sample as a result of the removal of adsorbed moisture. An increase in intensity of some bands in the frequency range of 3700 to $3200cm^{-1}$ was shown at a higher beating level. This increase in intensity was caused by changes in the crystal domain of cellulose resulting from the exposure of the crystalline area on the fibre surface.
