  • A new data-driven method for the design of a blind modulation frequency filter that suppresses the slow-varying noise components is proposed. The proposed method is based on the temporal local decorrelation of the feature vector sequence, and is done on an utterance-by-utterance basis. Although the conventional modulation frequency filtering approaches the same form regardless of the task and environment conditions, the proposed method can provide an adaptive modulation frequency filter that outperforms conventional methods for each utterance. In addition, the method ultimately performs channel normalization in a feature domain with applications to log-spectral parameters. The performance was evaluated by speaker-independent isolated-word recognition experiments under additive noise environments. The proposed method achieved outstanding improvement for speech recognition in environments with significant noise and was also effective in a range of feature representations.

  • In a real environment, sound recordings are commonly distorted by channel and background noise, and the performance of audio identification is mainly degraded by them. Recently, Philips introduced a robust and efficient audio fingerprinting scheme applying a differential (high-pass filtering) to the frequency-time sequence of the perceptual filter-bank energies. In practice, however, the robustness of the audio fingerprinting scheme is still important in a real environment. In this letter, we introduce alternatives to the frequency-temporal filtering combination for an extension method of Philips' audio fingerprinting scheme to achieve robustness to channel and background noise under the conditions of a real situation. Our experimental results show that the proposed filtering combination improves noise robustness in audio identification.

  • PAPR of the pilot symbols can be reduced down by the CAZAC sequence in the SC-FDMA communication system. However, it is very complicated and takes quite a long time to compute the interpolation between the OFDM information symbols for the channel estimation because the pilot data are trasmitted in the block type. Furthermore, situation will be much more serious in the severe fading channel. Actually the pilot insertion of the comb type is much efficient and convenient for the channel estimation since the calculation of the interpolation can be made in the frequency domain symbol by symbol. But, the PAPR will be regrown when the pilot data are inserted with the information data in the comb type. So, in this paper, we like to study the PAPR reduction and comb type pilot assignment for the efficient channel estimation. Unlike the conventional SLM(selected mapping) method requiring the side information, our improved SLM method is to use the phase rotation sequence into information data without rotating phase of pilot. We use different pilot data according to the different phase rotation sequence. From the simulation result, it can be confirmed that when SLM method of 4 phase rotation sequence is used, PAPR is almost same to the block type method without pilot.

  • In this study, 15 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers were used to analyze the population structure of 55 mungbean accessions (34 from South Asia, 20 from West Asia, 1 sample from East Asia). A total of 56 alleles were detected, with an average of 3.73 per locus. The mean of major allele frequency, expected heterozygosity and polymorphic information content for 15 SSR loci were 0.72, 0.07 and 0.33 respectively. The mean of major allele frequency was 0.79 for South Asia, and 0.74 for West Asia. The mean of genetic diversity and polymorphic information content were almost similar for South Asian and West Asian accessions (genetic diversity 0.35 and polymorphic information content 0.29). Model-based structure analysis revealed the presence of three clusters based on genetic distance. Accessions were clearly assigned to a single cluster in which >70% of their inferred ancestry was derived from one of the model-based populations. 47 accessions (85.56%) showed membership with the clusters and 8 accessions (14.54%) were categorized as admixture. The results could be used to understanding the genetic structure of mungbean cultivars from these regions and to support effective breeding programs to broaden the genetic basis of mungbean varieties.

  • Grid unbalanced faults can cause core saturation of power transformer and produce lower-order harmonics. These issues increase the electrical stress of power electronic devices and can cause a tripping of an entire HVDC system. In this paper, based on the positive-sequence and negative-sequence impedance model of a VSC-HVDC system as seen from the point of common connection (PCC), the resonance problem is analyzed and the factors determining the resonant frequency are obtained. Furthermore, to suppress over-voltage and over-current during resonance, a novel method using a virtual harmonic resistor is proposed. The virtual harmonic resistor emulates the role of a resistor connected in series with the commutating inductor without influencing the active and reactive power control. Simulation results in PSCAD/EMTDC show that the proposed control strategy can suppress resonant over-voltage and over-current. In addition, it can be seen that the proposed strategy improves the safety of the VSC-HVDC system under unbalanced faults.

  • In this paper, the design of robust DSC-PLL(Delayed Signal Cancellation Phase Locked Loop) is proposed for coping with frequency variation. This method shows significant performance for detection of fundamental positive sequence component voltage when the grid voltage is polluted by grid unbalance and frequency variation. The feedback frequency estimation of DSC-PLL is tracking the drift in the phase by unbalance and frequency variation. The robust DSC PLL is to present the analysis on method and performance under frequency variations. These compensation algorithms can correct for discrepancies of changing the frequency within maximum 193[ms] and improve traditional DSC-PLL. Linear interpolation method is adopted to reduce the discretized errors in the digital implementation of the PLL. For verification of robust characteristic, PLL methods are implemented on FPGA with a discrete fixed point based. The proposed method is validated by both Matlab/Simulink and experimental results based on FPGA(XC7Z030).

  • The frequency selective surface (FSS) embedded hybrid composite materials have been developed to provide excellent mechanical and specific electromagnetic properties. Radar absorbing structures (RASs) are an example material that provides both radar absorbing properties and structural characteristics. The absorbing efficiency of an RAS can be improved using selected materials having special absorptive properties and structural characteristics and can be in the form of multi-layers or have a certain stacking sequence. However, residual stresses occur in FSS embedded composite structures after co-curing due to a mismatch between the coefficients of thermal expansion of the FSS and the composite material. In this study, to develop an RAS, the thermal residual stresses of FSS embedded composite structures were analyzed using finite element analysis, considering the effect of stacking sequence of composite laminates with square loop (SL) and double square loop (DSL) FSS patterns. The FSS radar absorbing efficiency was measured in the K-band frequency range of 21.6 GHz. Residual stress leads to a change in the deformation of the FSS pattern. Using these results, the effect of transmission characteristics with respect to the deformation on FSS pattern was analyzed using an FSS Simulator.

  • This paper analyzes the input side performance of a conventional three-phase to single-phase matrix converter (3-1MC). It also presents the input-side waveform quality under this topology. The suppression of low-frequency input current harmonics is studied using the 3-1MC plus capacitance compensation unit. The constraint between the modulation function of the output and compensation sides is analyzed, and the relations among the voltage utilization ratio and the output compensation capacitance, filter capacitors and other system parameters are deduced. For a 3-1MC without large-capacity energy storage, the system performance is susceptible to input voltage imbalance. This paper decouples the inner current of the 3-1MC using a Lyapunov function in the input positive and negative sequence bi-coordinate axes. Meanwhile, the outer loop adopts a voltage-weighted synthesis of the output and compensation sides as a cascade of control objects. Experiments show that this strategy suppresses the low-frequency input current harmonics caused by input voltage imbalance, and ensures that the system maintains good static and dynamic performances under input-unbalanced conditions. At the same time, the parameter selection and debugging methods are simple.

  • In this paper, we have proposed a carrier recovery algorithm of OFDM/QPSK-DMR(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing/Quadrature Phase Shift Keying Modulation-Digital Microwave Radio)system using BL-PSF(Band Limited-Pulse Shaping Filter) and have analyzed the carrier phase MSE(Mean Square Error) performance of OFDM/QPSK and single carrier DMR systems. The existing OFDM/QPSK-DMR system using windowing requires training sequence or CP(Cyclic prefix) to synchronize a receive. carrier frequency. Because in the OFDM/QPSK-DMR system using BL-PSF there is no training sequence or CP(Cyclic Prefix), we also propose a carrier recovery useful to the system. The simulation results confirm that the proposed carrier recovery algorithm has the same carrier phase MSE(Mean Square Error) performance for the single carrier DMR system under AWGN(Additive White Gaussian Noise) environment.
