This study proposes the neural network simulator for the integrity evaluation of weld zone in railway rails. For these purposes, the ultrasonic signals for defects(crack) of weld zone in frames are acquired in the type of time series data and echo strength. The detection of the natural defects in railway truck is performed using the characteristics of echodynamic pattern in ultrasonic signal. And then their applications evaluated feature extraction based on the time-frequency-attractor domain(peak to peak, rise time, rise slope, fall time, fall slope, pulse duration, power spectrum, and bandwidth) and attractor characteristics (fractal dimension and attractor quadrant) etc. The constructed neural network simulator agrees fairly well with the measured results of test block(defect location, beam propagation distance, echo strength, etc). The Proposed neural network simulator in this study can be used for the integrity evaluation of weld zone in railway rails.
Flutter wind-tunnel test is an expensive and complicated process. Also, the test model may has discrepancy in the structural characteristics when compared to those of the real model. "Dry Wind-Tunnel" (DWT) is an innovative testing system which consists of the ground vibration test (GVT) hardware system and software which computationally can be operated and feedback in real-time to yield rapidly the unsteady aerodynamic forces. In this paper, we study on the aerodynamic forces of DWT system to feedback in time domain. The aerodynamic forces in the reduced-frequency domain are approximated by Minimum-state approximation. And we present a state-space equation of the aerodynamic forces. With the two simulation model, we compare the results of the flutter analysis.

Hydroelastic interactions of a deformable floating body with random waves are investigated in time domain. Both hydroelastic motion and structural dynamics are solved by expansion of elastic modes and Fourier transform for the random waves. A direct and efficient structural analysis in time domain is developed. In particular, an efficient way of obtaining distributive loads for the hydrodynamic integral terms including convolution integral by using Fubini theory is explained. After confirming correctness of respective loading components, calculations of full distributions of loads in random waves are expedited by reformulating all the body loading terms into distributed forms. The method is validated by extensive convergence tests and comparisons against the counterparts of the frequency-domain analysis. Characteristics of motion/deformation responses and stress resultants are investigated through a parametric study with varying bending rigidity and types of random waves. Relative contributions of componential loads are identified. The consequence of elastic-mode resonance is underscored.
The second-order motion characteristics of a semi-submersible are investigated in regular waves. A higher-order boundary element method in a frequency domain and a finite element method in a time-domain were applied to the numerical analysis of the nonlinear hydrodynamic force and motion characteristics of semi-submersibles in view point of potential flow. Various aspects of nonlinear effects on the heave and roll of a semi-submersible were numerically investigated and some selected cases were compared with the model test data.
In this paper, response characteristics by applying impulse into transformer windings in order to precaution diagonosis of power electric instrument are studied. A sample oilless transformer, an aging transformer and a good transformer are slected for models. The experimented results show that for testing the windings distortion and impedanced change of transformer the LVI method are suitable. Also, variation characteristic of output waveforms at time and frequency domain in order to efficient analysis is discussed. The results response that waveforms at frequency domain is very higher resolution at time domain.

This paper presents a comparison on the resistance and characteristics of transient response of grounding systems under surge currents using frequency domain electromagnetic field analysis software package and field test. Analysis is done by computer model, based on electromagnetic field theory approach, that accurately takes into account frequency dependent characteristics of the system. The transient performance of three grounding systems is analyzed by comparison of frequency dependent impedance and the maximal transient GPR. A double exponential lighting surge current is injected at one corner of the grounding systems. The transient GPRs a rod grounding systems are higher than mesh or electrolytic grounding systems. Af field test, the results of resistance measurement and time-variant of ground resistance slightly reduce electorlytic grounding systems less than rod and mesh grounding systems.
3D seismic data processing methods such as full waveform inversion or reverse-time migration require 3D wave propagation modeling and heavy calculations. We compared efficiency and accuracy of a Xeon Phi coprocessor to those of a high-end server CPU using 3D frequency-domain wave propagation modeling. We adopted the OpenMP parallel programming to the time-domain finite difference algorithm by considering the characteristics of the Xeon Phi coprocessors. We applied the Fourier transform using a running-integration to obtain the frequency-domain wavefield. A numerical test on frequency-domain wavefield modeling was performed using the 3D SEG/EAGE salt velocity model. Consequently, we could obtain an accurate frequency-domain wavefield and attain a 1.44x speedup using the Xeon Phi coprocessor compared to the CPU.

This paper describes the test procedure, instrumentation, verification methodology and the results of the ground vibration test(GVT) and force vibration test(FVT) of the SmartUAV aircraft to estimate experimentally dynamic characteristics of the aircraft. Bungee cords are used to emulate free-free boundary conditions of the test aircraft. The SmartUAV is excited by three shakers and one-hundred frequency response functions(FRF's) is measured. The FRF's are reduced and analyzed to identify the dynamics parameters of the SmartUAV. To extract modal parameters of the SmartUAV such as, natural frequencies and damping ratios, the poly-reference least square complex exponential method is used in the time domain. The mode shape coefficients are estimated with the least squares frequency domain method to identify the vibration modes. The FVT was performed by fixed sine frequency with three shakers on the x, y and z direction and vibration characteristics of structures and detail equipments are measured.

This paper presents finite element analyses, experimental measurements and finite element model updating of an arch type steel laboratory bridge model using semi-rigid connections. The laboratory bridge model is a single span and fixed base structure with a length of 6.1 m and width of 1.1m. The height of the bridge column is 0.85 m and the maximum arch height is 0.95 m. Firstly, a finite element model of the bridge is created in SAP2000 program and analytical dynamic characteristics such as natural frequencies and mode shapes are determined. Then, experimental measurements using ambient vibration tests are performed and dynamic characteristics (natural frequencies, mode shapes and damping ratios) are obtained. Ambient vibration tests are performed under natural excitations such as wind and small impact effects. The Enhanced Frequency Domain Decomposition method in the frequency domain and the Stochastic Subspace Identification method in the time domain are used to extract the dynamic characteristics. Then the finite element model of the bridge is updated using linear elastic rotational springs in the supports and structural element connections to minimize the differences between analytically and experimentally estimated dynamic characteristics. At the end of the study, maximum differences in the natural frequencies are reduced on average from 47% to 2.6%. It is seen that there is a good agreement between analytical and experimental results after finite element model updating. Also, connection percentages of the all structural elements to joints are determined depending on the rotational spring stiffness.

The reflectivity of a grid ferrite electromagnetic wave absorber is analyzed using finite difference time domain (FDTD) method, which is usually used in anechoic chambers for EMI / EMS test. The frequency dispersive characteristics of ferrite medium and its boundary condition are modeled using magnetic flux in addition to E- and H-fields. By applying Floquets theorem, FDTD analysis of the grid ferrite absorber with periodic infinite array is simplified as a unit cell problem. The method of homogenization which is mainly utilized in the calculation of absorber reflectivity as a low frequency technique takes only into account volume fraction of the unit cell of the absorber except for the structure of medium geometry. However, the presented method in this paper can analyze the geometry effect of the unit cell with its medium characteristics up to high frequency region.
