  • One of the most serious factors constraining the next generation cellular mobile consumer communication systems will be the severe co-channel interference experienced at the cell edge. Such a capacity-degrading impairment combined with the limited available spectrum resource makes it essential to develop more spectrally efficient solutions to enhance the system performance and enrich the mobile user's application services. This paper proposes a unique hybrid method of frequency hopping (FH) and subcarrier-reuse-partitioning that can maximize the system capacity by efficiently utilizing the available spectrum while at the same time reduce the co-channel interference effect. The main feature of the proposed method is that it applies an optimal combination of different frequency reuse factors (FRF) and FH-subcarrier allocation patterns into the partitioned cell regions. From the simulation results, it is shown that the proposed method can achieve the optimum number of subcarrier subsets according to the frequency-reuse distance and results in better performance than the fixed FRF methods, for a given partitioning arrangement. The results are presented in the context of both blocking probability and BER performances. It will also be shown how the proposed scheme is well suited to FH-OFDMA based cellular systems aiming at low co-channel interference performance and optimized number of subcarriers.

  • In this paper, we proposed the methodology of interference analysis based on monte-carlo method for effective use of Industrial, Scientific, Medical (ISM) band. The interference scenario is divided according to the distance and density. The simulation of interference analysis evaluates the interference probability according to distribution density of Interfering Transmitters (It) in the Secure Interference Area (SIA). The SIA is gained from the Interference Efficiency Range that satisfied to Interference Permissible Range of Victim Receiver (Vr). Simulation result that apply the proposed interference scenario to the WLAN and bluetooth, Interference Permissible Range was 60~400m. And the WLAN was acceptable within interference permissible range to six bluetooth that exist in the SIA. In the same condition, when applied Listen Before Talk (LBT) based on Cognitive Radio (CR) to the bluetooth using Frequency Hopping (FH), interference probability was decreased sharply. The Spectrum Engineering Advanced Monte Carlo Analysis Tool (SEAMCAT) that has been developed based on the monte-carlo method by European Radio-communications Office (ERO) were used to the interference simulation.

  • It is very important to get very high switching speed as well as low phase noise of frequency synthesizer in the OFDM/FH communication system. In this paper we compare the phase noises and switching speeds of the conventional PLL and digital hybrid PLL(DH-PLL) frequency synthesizer, also, we investigate the effect of phase noise on the performance of OFDM/FH communication system. DH-PLL has high switching speed property at the cost of circuit complexity and more power consumption. Unlike the conventional PLL in which the phase noise and switching speed have the trade off relationship in respect of loop filter bandwidth, DH-PLL frequency synthesizer can perform fast switching speed and low phase noise simultaneously. Under the condition of same hopping speed requirement, DH-PLL can achieve faster switching speed and lower SNR penalty compared with conventional PLL in the OFDM/FH communication system.

  • In this paper, For 4th generation wireless communication systems, we propose a method to predict FH patterns in FH-OFDMA systems. OFDM is recognized as a promising modulation technique. Multi-user allocation in OFDM system can use FH that provides the spectrum-spread techniques. If one can generate more predictable FH sequences, then performance of the system can be easily improved. Current random FH and simple adaptive FH methods, however, are not considering predicting FH sequences. In this paper we show that the sampling of the wireless faded signal is not realized as a certain probability nature. With this regard, the proposed predictive FH allocation method is designed to embed the unknown probability models. Simulation study shows that the predictive FH method is more accurately predict FH sequences than the random or simple adaptive FH methods. We will further improve this proposed method to apply QoS control and MAC function development in OFDMA based wireless physical structures, especially maritime wireless data communications.

  • This paper aims to analyse the performance of coded frequency hopping /spread spectrum mul~ tiple access system by employing the channel with mixture of A WGN, partial band jamming, fading and user interference. In this approach, a special consideration is focused on the effect of the partial hit. That is, the interfering signals that are present for a small fraction of the hop dur~ ation did not cause hit. The results of analysis showed that the frequency hit changed linearly according to the varying degree of frequency overlap. And this effect did not change the type of error probability distri~ bution.

  • Most of the current frequency hopping (FH) based dynamic spectrum access (DSA) methods concern a reactive channel access scheme with synchronous inter-channel spectrum sensing, i.e., FH is reactively triggered by the primary user (PU)'s return reported by spectrum sensing, and the PU channel to be switched to is assumed precisely just sensed or ready to be sensed, as if the inter-channel spectrum sensing moments are synchronous. However, the inter-channel spectrum sensing moments are more likely to be asynchronous, which risks PU suffering more interference. Moreover, the spectrum sensing is usually erroneous, which renders the problem more complex. To address this problem, we propose a proactive FH based DSA method against both erroneous spectrum sensing and asynchronous inter-channel spectrum sensing (moments). We term it as proactive DSA. The optimal FH sequence is obtained by dynamic programming. The complexity is also analyzed. Finally, the simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • An initial carrier frequency offset estimation algorithm is proposed for a multi-user frequency bowing orthogonal frequency division modulation-frequency division multiple access (FH-OFDMA) system with a single preamble symbol. To mitigate the effect of the frequency offset, every mobile station needs to accurately and rapidly acquire synchronization. The proposed algorithm uses only one preamble symbol in which two kinds of subcarriers are designed for coarse and fine frequency offset estimation. The non-data aided estimation using the energy spectrum is exploited for fine offset estimation, and maximum likelihood estimation using correlation for coarse offset estimation. By combining the two estimation results, an accurate frequency offset can be estimated with a single symbol. Through simulations, the performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated by comparing estimation error variance with a conventional method.

  • Cognitive Radio is an advanced enabling technology for the efficient utilization of vacant spectrum due to its ability to sense the spectrum environment. It is important to determine accurate spectrum utilization of the primary system in a cognitive radio environment. In order to define the spectrum utilization state, many CR systems use what is known as the quiet period (QP) method. However, even when using a QP, interference can occur. This causes reduced system throughput and contrary to the basic condition of cognitive radio. In order to reduce the interference time, a frequency-hopping algorithm is proposed here. Additionally, to complement the loss of throughput in the FH, a HMM-based channel prediction algorithm and a channel allocation algorithm is proposed. Simulations were conducted while varying several parameters. The findings show that the proposed algorithm outperforms conventional channel allocation algorithms.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of a concatenated code with two different inner decoding schemes. One is the error-detecting inner decoding, and the other is the error-detecting-and-correcting inner decoding scheme. We compare the performances of the two decoding schemes for finite and infinite block length cases when the concatenated code is applied to slow frequency-hopping spread-spectrum multiple access (FH-SSMA) communication systems.
