  • Laying stress on the upper classes of Western Europe until from the seventeenth to the eighteenth century, the chinese mode in the fields of architecture, interior design and fashion was widely liked. It is called as ‘chinoiserie’into the French language. The chinese design with its quantity and ornamentation exerted an influence upon‘Rococo’in France and upon ‘Chippendale’ in England. The chinese mode that was made best use of the furniture design is the one of Ming dynasty. This was developed in relation to the interior design of ‘Siheyuan’ that is the architectural mode in those days. The furnitures at the times of Ming dynasty was raised to the position of the golden era in the history of chinese furnitures. The furniture has the technique laying stress on symmetrical proportion, simplicity. This technique showed as the formative modeling. also on the part of decoration ornamental designs showing the china ideology of Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism it was used. In this formative modeling the ideological background of those days forms the groundwork. The combination of reason and sentiment and of heart and mind emphasizes that our emotion should be in control by the ration and our emotion and ration should be harmonized.

  • Andree Potman is one of the few French female interior designers who has successfully extended her design territory beyond France into a more global context. Unlike other interior designers Potman has a very unique and eclectic background. She has studied music, worked as a journalist, talented in redeveloping designs that were unknown at that time such as design's of Eileen Gray, Mallet-Stevenson, and many more. Starting her career as an interior designer we can see her designs not only in France but also in many other countries such as America, Japan, and Germany. However her name is not that familiar to the designers in Korea. Therefore the current study focuses on the introduction and understanding of Potman's designs in regards to the relationship between interior space and objets that have made her designs so called 'Potman Style'. In order to accomplish the objective the researcher first studied means and use of ejects in interior space and next examined characteristics of Potman's designs including lighting fixtures, products, furnitures, and Interior designs. Finally, by using constant comparative analysis four categories (esthetics of emptiness, repetition of geometric forms, contrast in style, and focus with lighting) of design methods are revealed as the characteristics of interior elements as objects in Andree Potman's interior designs.

  • In two previous papers [1], [2], we presented the validity of a method that calculated the Leq values along High Speed Train (TGV in french) lines from the level/time evolution of moving trains. Tanks to this method, it is now possible to compute specific time-related effects such as interactions between train bodies and close obstacles. This paper lists important parameters to be considered within TGV studies and presents the various levels of study, starting from the research of the best traject (extensive studies), passing through noise impact studies (intensive studies) of the chosen traject to the dimensionning of antinoise devices (final design), and all this to guarantee precise respect of noise criteria. A theoretical comparison study conducted on about 80 different types of antinoise devices including earthberms and noise barriers of different forms, dimensions and materials is also presented. At last a "final design" study using all benefits of the method (full 3D and time representation) is presented.presented.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the uses and exterior design of the balconies in urban housing from the ancient times to the 19th century. In doing so, the paper seeks to investigate the cultural identity of the balcony in urban housing. The results are as follow. First, in the urban housing the balcony space were made for protection from the heat, light and ventilation; gardening; views toward the streets, city, waterside, inner court, domain for men; breathing french air; watching ceremony, festivals and events; simple houseworks like drying, carpet cleaning and hair coloring; lever installation and fire escape. Second, as part of exterior design the typical projecting characteristic of the balconies was emphasized and they became an impotent decorative element. The monotonous facade changed to a lively design with a rhythmical sense. On the facade the effects of horizontal movement, symmetry or asymmetry from the main entrance, and the center-projection (rialto) were created. In the urban housing the balconies were used for cultural activities which supplement and enlarge the function of the interior space, and moreover the rich effects of the facade contributed to the creation of attractive urban landscape.

  • In June, the City of Seoul held a design competition for $\ulcorner$Seoul Park$\lrcorner$in Paris to promote friendly relations with its sister city. The purpose of this paper is to articulate the design concept of a scheme submitted by the author. The author interpreted the object of this design competition as follows: if we regards a park not as one of urban planning facilities but as a space for expressing a culture, $\ulcorner$Seoul Park$\lrcorner$in Paris is a space expressing Korean culture, or a culture of the City of Seoul in Paris, France. Three points were emphasized in this scheme: 1. Physical and non-physical aspects of Korean culture, or a culture of the City of Seoul were expressed separately. In physical part, a traditional Korean garden was reappeared to express its authenticity compared to its counterpart, French classical garden - its formal and grand style. In nonphysical part, Seoul's features and its citizen's facial expression were engraved on 'free standing walls' named 'Seoul Expression'. In addition, Korean traditional and modern performing arts will be performed in a square named as 'Seoul madang' surrounded by the free standing walls. 2. A space clearly divided by the fence was necessary to distinguish a traditional Korean garden from the place which looks like an amusement park. Traditional wall, mounding and pine tree groves were included. 3. Bamboo grove with the way taking a walk was introduced. The author expected that Parisian feels oriental mystery, the sound of wind, and the time lag of past and present in this sounding bamboo grove.

  • The definition of the 'Pocket', according to the Korean encyclopedia, is an accessory that a person puts in small belongings or money and carry on waist or holds with a hand. Since the pockets were not attached to the clothes at that period of time, the portable bag or pocket had been used without distinction of age or sex for carrying personal belongings. The pocket in France was also used in a similar manner, where it was used as a handbag to carry purse, comb, or a key by women during the middle ages. The pockets were decorated, made of quality material such as velvet, silk, or satin with splendid embroidery or beads. This study closely examines the history of the pocket from late 16th century around Renaissance to early 20th century in France and during the mid Cho-Sun dynasty in Korea and compares the different kinds of patterns, symbolism, and the purpose of the pockets. In addition, the relationships between the pockets, belongings, and ornament are examined as well by thoroughly investigating the unique characteristics of the pocket of each country.

  • To design structures with Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC), it is necessary to estimate the mechanical properties first of all. The most attractive characteristics of UHPC are the considerable tensile strength and behavior. Therefore the most important thing in order to properly design UHPC structures is to establish the constitutive model to represent the tensile behavior of UHPC. In this study, it was tried to find out the tensile behavior of UHPC by experiments and analyses. Through comparisons with the French SETRA/AFGC recommendations and the Japanese recommendations for the Ultra High-Strength Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Structures, a reasonable model which could represent the tensile stress-strain relationship in the structural design was proposed

  • Many fashion designers were inspired by arts. Not only arts itself but also the sprit of the artist links with fashion. This study based on French artist Yves Klein who died in 1962, at the age of 34. Klein created over a thounsand works in only seven years. Among the his various art collections, it is focused on Yves Peintures, I.K.B(International Klein Blue) and Sponge sculpture. The extracted some of core concepts including aesthetic of Klein about color and line, space perception in monochrome and expansion of monochrome toward three dimensional sponge sculptures were transformed into fashion design. As a result, Yves Sweats project, which is T-shirts project based on Yves Peintures, designed as a three-dimentional expansion of Monochrome and it was shown at Fall/Winter 2011-12 Tranoi homme trade show in Paris. Also Yves Klein collection was designed as a ready-to-wear menswear collection that was presented at Fall/Winter 2011-12 Seoul Fashion Week.

  • This research deals with context and process of the reception of the sociological concept of "$mod{\grave{e}}les$ culturels" by French architects gathered around Bernard Huet in the late 1960s and the early 1970s. While this concept had its own shortcomings as sociological tool, its reception by some architects in collaboration with sociologists produced a series of meaningful debates when the role of inhabitants in collective housing design was a common issue. Through the analysis this research could situate the architectural reception of the $Mod{\grave{e}}les$ culturels in comparison with other then competing tendencies such as "flexibility tendency" and Design methods movement. It argues that the most significant meaning of the reception of $mod{\grave{e}}les$ culturels lies in its advanced and critical view on the relations and hiatus between the "social space" of the inhabitants characterized in particular by its topological nature and the "architectural space" of the architects characterized by its Euclidian geometrical nature.
