Digital all-optical parallel computing is an important research direction and spans conventional devices and convergent nano-optics deployments. Optical bus-based interconnects provide interesting aspects such as relative information communication speed-up or slow-down between optical signals. This aspect is harnessed in the newly proposed All-Optical Linear Array with a Reconfigurable Pipelined Bus System (OLARPBS) model. However, the physical realization of such communication interconnects needs to be considered. This paper considers spatial layouts of processing elements along with the optical bus light paths that are necessary to realize the corresponding interconnection requirements. A metric in terms of the degree of required physical constraint is developed to characterize the variety of possible solutions. Simple algorithms that determine spatial layouts are given. It is shown that certain communication interconnection structures have associated intrinsic topologies.
We propose and demonstrate a searching and autoalignment method for indoor optical wireless communication, using a cost-effective retroreflective sheet and a microelectromechanical system (MEMS) mirror. We use an extremum-seeking method for a single axis and beam steering with a MEMS mirror to maintain a line of sight (LOS) with the optical link. This autoalignment method shows a receiver sensitivity of -31.87 dBm for a bit rate of 2.5 Gb/s over a 7 m communication link.
Because of the rapid increase of mobile traffic, flexible broadband supportive unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based 6G mobile networks using free space optical (FSO) links have been recently proposed. Considering the advancements made in UAVs, big data processing, and artificial intelligence precision control technologies, the formation of an additional wireless network based on UAV aerial platforms to assist the existing fixed base stations of the mobile radio access network is considered a highly viable option in the near future. In this paper, a combined time bound optimization scheme is proposed that can adaptively satisfy the control and communication time constraints as well as the processing time constraints in FSO-based 6G UAV aerial networks. The proposed scheme controls the relation between the number of data flows, input data rate, number of worker nodes considering the time bounds, and the errors that occur during communication and data processing. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme is very effective in satisfying the time constraints for UAV control and radio access network services, even when errors in communication and data processing may occur.
Free-space optical (FSO) communication is considered to be a potential solution to congestion in the radio-frequency spectrum and last-mile-access bottleneck issues in future cellular communication networks, such as 5G and beyond. However, FSO link performance may degrade significantly due to irradiance fluctuations and random temporal fluctuations from atmospheric turbulence. Therefore, in this work the main objective is to reduce the effect of the atmospheric turbulence by considering a multihop FSO communication system with amplify-and-forward relaying supported by a radio-frequency (RF) link, which form a hybrid FSO/RF communication system. The FSO link is assumed to follow the gamma-gamma fading model, which represents strong turbulence. Also, the RF link is modeled by a Rayleigh distribution. The performance of the considered system, in terms of the outage probability and average bit-error rate (BER), is investigated and analyzed under various weather conditions and pointing errors. Furthermore, the effect of the number of employed relay nodes on the performance of the system is investigated. The results indicate that the considered system reduces outage probability and average BER significantly, especially for low channel quality. Finally, the closed-form expressions derived in this work are compared to the results of Monte Carlo simulations, for verification.

Since Nye and Berry$^{(1)}$ showed that in free space the electromagnetic field could contain stable, propagating phase singularities termed "dislocations", optical dislocations have been extensively investigated in nonlinear optics and laser physics. As the wave propagates, the lines of constant phase surrounding a dislocation trace out a spiral in space or in time. So these phase singularities are now usually referred to as optical vortices. Baranova and her co-workers$^{(2)}$ have shown that in fully developed speckle patterns, there is, one optical vortex accompanying each speckle spot on average. Among these vortices there are networks in phasemap because only one phase is to be assigned in one point except optical dislocations having zero amplitude. Freund et al.$^{(3)}$ have been studied optical dislocation networks and simulations are compared with experimental results. (omitted)
In response to the current situation where general methods cannot effectively compensate for the phase delay of ordinary optical mixers, a multi-layer spatial beam-splitting optical mixer is designed using total reflection triangular prisms and polarization beam splittings. The phase delay is generated by the wave plate, and the mixer can use the existing parallel plates in the structure to individually compensate for the phase of the four output beams. A mixer model is established based on the structure, and the influence of the position and orientation of the optical components on the phase delay is analyzed. The feasibility of the phase compensation method is simulated and analyzed. The results show that the mixer can effectively compensate for the four outputs of the optical mixer over a wide range. The mixer has a compact structure, good performance, and significant advantages in phase error control, production, and tuning, making it suitable for free-space coherent optical communication systems.
In this paper, we propose a modified optical CBC(Cipher Block Chaining) encryption method using optical XOR logic operations. The proposed method is optically implemented by using dual encoding and a free-space interconnected optical logic gate technique in order to process XOR operations in parallel. Also, we suggest a CBC encryption/decryption optical module which can be fabricated with simple optical architecture. The proposed method makes it possible to encrypt and decrypt vast two-dimensional data very quickly due to the fast optical parallel processing property, and provides more security strength than the conventional electronic CBC algorithm because of the longer security key with the two-dimensional array. Computer simulations show that the proposed method is very effective in CBC encryption processing and can be applied to even ECB(Electronic Code Book) mode and CFB(Cipher Feedback Block) mode.
We evaluate the degradation of receiver sensitivity induced by direct and indirect exposure to solar irradiance in free-space optical communication systems. For this purpose, we calculate the variances of numerous noise components arising from solar irradiance, and then estimate the receiver sensitivity penalties for intensity-modulation/direct-detection and coherent systems. The results show that the penalties are less than 1.3 dB when indirect sunlight impinges on the detector, regardless of the system. However, the sensitivity penalties are estimated to be larger than 30 dB when the sunlight is directly incident upon the receiver. These penalties are barely reduced if we insert an optical polarizer, or if we adjust the bandwidth of an optical filter at the receiver to be as narrow as the signal's bandwidth.
We have evaluated the performance of an all-optical automatic gain-controlled (AGC) erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) to suppress the optical signal fluctuation induced by atmospheric turbulence in terrestrial free-space optical communication systems. In our measurements, the input power into the EDFA was set to be -30 dBm and -10 dBm to operate the amplifier in the small-signal and saturation regions, respectively. The fluctuations in the optical signal were emulated with an acousto-optic modulator driven with a sinusoidal voltage. From the measured results, we have found that an all-optical AGC EDFA could suppress the optical signal fluctuation effectively, as long as the EDFA operated in the small-signal region with a high feedback amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) power.
To evaluate the effect of occlusive skin on the activity of cutaneous oxygen free radical metabolizing enzymes in rats, the dorsal skin was covered with closed glass chamber shaped petri dish, 46 mm in diameter and 10 mm in height and sealed by an adhesive. Five day-occluded group showed more increased activity of xanthine oxidase (XO) than that of control, and the activity of five day-occluded group was higher than that of ten day-occluded group. The activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) were significantly higher in ten day-occluded group than in control or five day-occluded group. All the more, five day-occluded group showed the decreasing tendency of SOD and GPx activities compared to those of control. On the other hand, the cerrous perhydroxide deposits were observed in the intercellular space of the stratum basale in five day-occluded group under the electronic microscope using a cytochemistry method. Futhermore, the degree of cerrous perhydroxide reaction was lower in ten day-occluded group than in five day-occluded group. In conclusion, the increased XO activity and the decreased SOD and GPx activities are likely to responsible far the accumulation of $H_2O_2$ in five day-occluded group.
