Polishing a die that has free-form surfaces is a time-consuming and tedious job, and requires a considerable amount of high-precision skill. Some workers tend to gradually avoid the polishing work because of the poor environment caused by dust and noise. In order to reduce the polishing time and cope with the shortage of skilled workers, a user-friendly automatic polishing system was developed in this research. The polishing system with five degrees of freedom is able to keep the polishing tool normal to the die surface. The polishing system is controlled by a PC-NC controller. To easily operate the developed polishing robot system, this study developed an integrated program in the Windows environment. This program consists of four modules: the polishing module, the graphic simulator, the polishing data generation module, and the teaching module. Also, the automatic teaching system was developed to easily obtain teaching data and it consists of a three dimensional joystick and a proximity sensor. The joystick is used to simultaneously drive the polishing system to an arbitrary orientation and the proximity sensor is used to obtain teaching points precisely. Also, to evaluate the stability of the driving program and the teaching system, polishing experiments of a die of saddle shape were carried out.

To construct the accurate radio satellite navigation system, the efficient communication each satellite with the ground station is very important. Throughout the communication, the orbit of each satellite can be corrected, and those information will be used to analyze the satellite satus by the operator. Since there are limited resources of ground station, the schedule of antenna's azimuth and elevation angle should be optimized. On the other hand, the satellite in the medium earth orbit does not pass the same point of the earth surface due to the rotation of the earth. Therefore, the antenna pass schedule must be updated at the proper moment. In this study, Q learning approach which is a form of model-free reinforcement learning and genetic algorithm are considered to find the optimal antenna schedule. To verify the optimality of the solution, numerical simulations are conducted.

Planing hull forms have significant influences on those hydrodynamic performances in calm water and in waves. Therefore, the hydrodynamic performance of a planing vessel should be predicted by model tests or theoretical calculations, and be confirmed whether it shows the performance requirements at the design stage. In this study, four planing hull forms are designed with the goal of the improvement of resistance and seakeeping performance, and 1/6.5 scale model tests are carried out in Seoul National University towing tank. The effects of design parameters such as length-to-beam ratio, deadrise angle and forebody shape on the hydrodynamic performance are investigated, based on model test results. Running attitude and resistance of model ships in calm water are also estimated by empirical formulae proposed by Savitsky (1964; 2007; 2012), and compared with the model test results. It is shown that calm water performance of non-prismatic planing hulls can be predicted well by Savitsky (2012)'s formula which improves the original Savitsky(1964/2007)'s formula by taking into account the variations of deadrise angles, and the actual angles between the hull bottom and the free surface.

In this study, a pre-swirl duct for the 180,000 DWT bulk carrier has been designed from a propulsion standpoint using CFD. The stern duct - designed by NMRI - was selected as the initial duct. The objective function is to minimize the value of delivered power in model scale. Design variables of the duct include duct angle, diameter, chord length, and vertical and horizontal displacements from the center. Design variables of the stators are blade number, arrangement angle, chord length, and pitch angle. A parametric design was carried out with the objective function obtained using CFD. Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations have been solved; and the Reynolds stress model applied for the turbulent closure. A double body model is used for the treatment of free-surface. MRF and sliding mesh models have been applied to simulate the actuating propeller. A self-propulsion point has been obtained from the results of towing and self-propelled computations, i.e., form factor obtained from towing computation and towing forces obtained from self-propelled computations of two propeller rotating speeds. The reduction rate of the delivered power of the improved stern duct is 2.9%, whereas that of the initial stern duct is 1.3%. The pre-swirl duct with one inner stator in upper starboard and three outer stators in portside has been designed. The delivered power due to the designed pre-swirl duct is reduced by 5.8%.
In the presence of SDS(sodium dodecyl sulfate), effect of $Ca^{2+}$on the interaction of NP-40EO[nonylphenol-(ethylene oxide)40] with iodine in aqueous solution were investigated by UV-visible spectrophotometer. In the presence of SDS, the intensity of interaction peaks were decreased and markedly increased by the addition of $Ca^{2+}$. Decrease of interaction peaks is caused by decrease of EO number to be interact with iodine per unit surface area of mixed micelle to the insertion of SDS and increase is attributed to the compactness of micelle in the presence of $Ca^{2+}$. These phenomena may be explained by the fact that the linear EO (ethylene oxide) chains, to be free in aqueous solution, could form a pseudo-crown ether structures of forming with $Ca^{2+}$ion.

In this study, we performed a sediment elution experiment to evaluate water quality in terms of phosphorus, as influenced by the dissolved oxygen consumed by sediments. Three separate model column treatments, namely, raw, calcined, and sonicated oyster shell powders, were used in this experiment. Essential phosphorus fractions were examined to verify their roles in nutrient release from sediment based on correlation analyses. When treated with calcined or sonicated oyster shell powder, the sediment-water interface became "less anaerobic," thereby producing conditions conducive to partial oxidation and activities of aerobic bacteria. Sediment Oxygen Demand (SOD) was found to be closely correlated with the growth of algae, which confirmed an intermittent input of organic biomass at the sediment surface. SOD was positively correlated with exchangeable and loosely adsorbed phosphorus and organic phosphorus, owing to the accumulation of unbound algal biomass-derived phosphates in sediment, whereas it was negatively correlated with ferric iron-bound phosphorus or calcium fluorapatite-bound phosphorus, which were present in the form of "insoluble" complexes, thereby facilitating the free migration of sulfate-reducing bacteria or limiting the release from complexes, depending on applied local conditions. PCR-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis revealed that iron-reducing bacteria were the dominant species in control and non-calcined oyster shell columns, whereas certain sulfur-oxidizing bacteria were identified in the column treated with calcined oyster powder.

The purpose of this study is to propose a modeling methodology through the exchange of coordinate data of a three-dimensional custom curtain wall panel between Rhino and Revit, and to examine the validity of the model implemented in the drawing. Although the modeling means and method are different, a fundamental principle is that all three-dimensional modeling begins by defining the position of the points, the most primitive element of geometry, in the XYZ coordinate space. For the BIM modeling methodology proposal based on this geometry basic concept, the functions and characteristics associated with the points of Rhino and Revit programs are identified, and then BIM implementation process model is organized and systemized through the setting of the interoperability process algorithm. The BIM implementation process model proposed in this study is (1) Modeling and panelizing surface into individual panels using Rhino and Grasshopper; (2) Extraction of vertex coordinate data from individual panels and create CSV file; (3) Curtain wall modeling through Adaptive Component Family in Revit and (4) Automatic creation of Revit curtain wall panels through API. The proposed process model is expected to help reduce design errors and improve component and construction quality by automatically converting general elements into architectural meaningful information, automating a set of processes that build them into BIM data, and enabling consistent and integrated design management.
A rockburst is a common disaster in deep-tunnel excavation engineering, especially for high-geostress areas. An anomalously low friction effect is one of the most important inducements of rockbursts. To elucidate the correlation between an anomalously low friction effect and a rockburst, we establish a two-dimensional prediction model that considers the discontinuous structure of a rock mass. The degree of freedom of the rotation angle is introduced, thus the motion equations of the blocks under the influence of a transient disturbing force are acquired according to the interactions of the blocks. Based on the two-dimensional discontinuous block model of deep rock mass, a rockburst prediction model is established, and the initiation process of ultra-low friction rockburst is analyzed. In addition, the intensity of a rockburst, including the location, depth, area, and velocity of ejection fragments, can be determined quantitatively using the proposed prediction model. Then, through a specific example, the effects of geomechanical parameters such as the different principal stress ratios, the material properties, a dip of principal stress on the occurrence form and range of rockburst are analyzed. The results indicate that under dynamic disturbance, stress variation on the structural surface in a deep rock mass may directly give rise to a rockburst. The formation of rockburst is characterized by three stages: the appearance of cracks that result from the tension or compression failure of the deformation block, the transformation of strain energy of rock blocks to kinetic energy, and the ejection of some of the free blocks from the surrounding rock mass. Finally, the two-dimensional rockburst prediction model is applied to the construction drainage tunnel project of Jinping II hydropower station. Through the comparison with the field measured rockburst data and UDEC simulation results, it shows that the model in this paper is in good agreement with the actual working conditions, which verifies the accuracy of the model in this paper.

In general, polyimides (PIs) are used in liquid crystal displays (LCDs) as alignment layer of liquid crystals (LCs). Up to date, the rubbing alignment technique has been widely used to align liquid crystals on the PI surface, which is suitable for mass-production of LCDs because of its simple process and high productivity. However, this method has some disadvantages. Rubbed PI surfaces include the debris left by the cloth and the generation of electrostatic charges during rubbing process. Therefore, rubbing-free techniques for LC alignment are strongly required in LCD technology. In this experiment, PI was uniformly coated on indium-tin-oxide electrode substrates to form LC alignment layers using a spin-coating method and the PI layers were subsequently imidized at 433 K for 1 h. The thickness of the PI layer was set at 50 nm. The LC alignment layer surfaces were exposed to an $Ar^+$ ion-beam under various ion-beam energies. The antiparallel cells and twisted-nematic (TN) cells for the measurement of pretile angle and electro-optical characteristics were fabricated with the cell gap of 60 and $5\;{\mu}m$, respectively. The LC cells were filled with nematic LC (NLC, MJ001929, Merck) and were assembled. The NLC alignment capability on ion-beam-treated PI was observed using photomicroscope and the pretilt angle of the NLC was measured by the crystal-rotation method at room temperature. Voltage-transmittance (V-T) and response time characteristics of the ion-beam irradiated TN cell were measured by a LCD evaluation system.

In this paper, a scheme for the evaluation of variability in the eigen-modes of functionally graded material(FGM) beams is proposed within the framework of perturbation-based stochastic analysis. As a random parameter, the spatially varying elastic modulus of FGM along the axial direction at the mid-surface of the beam is chosen, and the thru-thickness variation of the elastic modulus is assumed to follow the original form of exponential variation. In deriving the formulation, the first order Taylor expansion on the eigen-modes is employed. As an example, a simply supported FGM beam having symmetric elastic modulus with respect to the mid-surface is chosen. Monte Carlo analysis is also performed to check if the proposed scheme gives reasonable outcomes. From the analyses it is found that the two schemes give almost identical results of the mean and standard deviation of eigen-modes. With the propose scheme, the standard deviation shape of respective eigen-modes can be evaluated easily. The deviated mode shape is found to have one more zero-slope points than the mother modes shapes, irrespective of order of modes. The amount of deviation from the mean is found to have larger values for the higher modes than the lower modes.
