A segment of the wave board has been expressed as a submerged line segment in the two dimensional wave flume. The lower end of the line segment could be extended to the bottom of the wave flume and the other opposite upper end of the board could be extended to the free surface. It is assumed that the motion of the wave board could be defined by the sinusoidal motion in horizontal direction on either end of the wave board. When the amplitude of sinusoidal motion of the wave board on lower and upper end are equal, the wave board motion could express the horizontally oscillating submerged segment of piston type wave generator. The submerged segment of flap type wave generator also could be expressed by taking the motion amplitude differently for the either end of the board. The pivot point of the segment motion could play a role of hinge point of the flap type wave generator. Simplified analytic solution of oscillating submerged wave board segment in water of finite depth has been derived through the first order perturbation method at two dimensional domain. The case study of the analytic solution has been carried out and it is found out that the solution could be utilized for the design of wave generator with arbitrary shape by linear superposition.
Recently a lots of problems have observed in high densified and high integrated electronic components. One of them is ion migration phenomena, which induce the electrical short of electrical circuit. Ion migration phenomena has been observed in the field of exposing the specific environment and using for a long time. Also as the RoHS restriction was started in July 1st, 2006, Pb-free solder was utilized in electronics assemblies. In this case, it is very important to compatible between components and printed circuit board(PCB), thus surface treatment materials of PCB was changed to Sn, Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu, Cu. Therefore these new application become to need to reevaluate the sensitivity about electrochemical ion migration. This study was evaluated the occurrence time of electrochemical ion migration using by water drop test. We utilized PCB(printed circuit board) having a comb pattern as follows 0.1, 0.318, 0.5, 1.0 mm pattern distance. Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu and Sn-37Pb were electroplated on the comb pattern. 6.5V and 15.0V were applied in the comb pattern and then we measured the electrical short time causing by occurring the ion migration. In these results, we evaluate the sensitivity and derived the prediction models of ion migration occurrence time depending on the pattern materials, applied voltage and pattern spacing of PCB conductor.

An off-surface flow visualization experiments have been performed to investigate the flow field over a delta wing with the leading edge extension(LEX). The model is a flat wing with $65^{\circ}$ sweepback angle. The free stream velocity is 6.2 m/s, which corresponds to Reynolds number of $4.4\times10^5$ based on the wing root chord. The angle of attack and sideslip angle range from $16^{\circ}\sim28^{\circ}$ and $0^{\circ}\sim-15^{\circ}$, respectively. The visualization technique of using the micro water-droplet and the laser beam sheet enabled to observe the vortical flow structures, which can not be obtained by 5-hole probe measurements. With sideslip angle, the interaction and breakdown of the LEX and wing vortices was promoted in the windward side, whereas, it was suppressed in the leeward side.
This paper is to understand the settling properties of cohesive sediments under effects of ions in turbulent flow. The experiments were conducted using a miniature annular flume(mini flume) with a free water surface. Silica was used as sediment of experiment. The suspended concentrations were measured by using a CCD-Camera. Settling of silica($SiO_2$) was allowed to occur under various shear stresses in a concentration of 7g/L. At condition of pH 4.2 and high NaCl concentration, the floc size D of silica was larger than D at condition of pH6.8 with the bed shear stress increasing. The settling velocity $W_s$ of silica was higher at condition of 10g NaCl/L than $W_s$ at condition of pH4.2. Comparison of measured concentration-time curves and concentration-time curves calculated by this study showed similar tendency in flow under effects of ions.

Both the friction velocity and the friction coefficient have to be estimated to determine flow characteristic in an open channel. In spite of the importances in an open channel, the complete interpretation is highly difficult because of free water surface, the complex of cross section and the various hydraulic parameters. The researches related to the friction factor are based on empirical outcome. Therefore, the equations are difficult to be generally applied. For that reason, the new friction factor estimation equation using the entropy concept was proposed in the present study, and the data measured in rectangular and trapezoid cross sections was used to verify the accuracy of equation. The advantage of the proposed equation dose not use the energy slope term which is difficult to be measured and to be estimated in an open channel. In addition, the proposed method showed that the accurate friction factor f can be estimated on the Basis of theoretical background.

The effects of the combination of blade number for forward and after propeller on the propeller shaft forces of a contra-rotating propeller (CRP) system are presented in the paper. The research is performed through the numerical simulations based on the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations (RANS). The simulation results of the present method in open water condition are validated comparing with the experimental data as well as the other numerical simulation results based on the potential method for 4-0-4 CRP (3686+3687A) and 4-0-5 CRP (3686+3849) of DTNSRDC. Two sets of CRP are designed and simulated to study the effect of the combination of blade number in behind-hull condition. One set consists of 3-blade and 4-blade, while the other is 4-blade and 4-blade. A full hull body submerged under the free surface is modeled in the computational domain to simulate directly the wake field of the ship at the propeller plane. From the simulation results, the fluctuations of axial force and moment are dominant in the case of same blade numbers for forward and after propellers, whereas the fluctuations of horizontal and vertical forces and moments are very large in the case of different blade numbers.

To assess the oil-containment effectiveness of tandem oil fences placed in currents, the movement of oil droplets in the fore and aft region of the fences is investigated by experimental and numerical methods. The effect of the flexibility of the fence skirt of single fence on the fence effectiveness is also investigated. Laboratory experiment is conducted to trace the path of a spherical solid particle of equivalent density to an oil droplet which was released in a uniform stream ahead of a model oil fence. Depending upon the releasing position and the flow condition there, it was observed that the particle floated up to the free surface, collided with the fence, or escaped below the fence. By analyzing the droplet trajectories, a numerical method is developed to predict the region ahead of the fore fence where an oil droplet initiating its motion eventually escapes beneath the fence. The effect of the relative sizes of the drafts of the fore and aft fences, the fence separation, and the bottom depth of the sea bed on the effectiveness of tandem fences is investigated using the numerically obtained trajectories of oil droplets.
This study investigated the flow characteristics in an annular flume with a free water surface using the Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter(ADV) in the laboratory. The flow was driven by the rotation of the inner cylinder in a way designed not to interfere with flocculation of cohesive sediments. The effect of the inner cylinder for the longitudinal velocities showed highest near the moving boundary and decreased towards the outer wall. At the lower longitudinal velocity, there was a peak in turbulent kinetic energy near the bed, whereas it moved upward to with increasing of the velocity. The longitudinal velocities estimated using the power law were in good agreement with the measured values than the values predicted by the log-law with roughness lengths. The average friction velocities evaluated by Reynolds shear stress were smaller than the values calculated using the log-law and power law when increasing the longitudinal velocity.

The evolution of the cavity and the variation of the drag for an underwater body with control fins are investigated through a numerical analysis of the steady cavitating turbulent flow. The continuity and the steady-state RANS equations are numerically solved using a mixture fluid model for calculating the multiphase turbulent flow of air, water and vapor together with the SST $k-{\omega}$ turbulence model. The method of volume of fluid is applied by the use of the Sauer's cavitation model. Numerical solutions have been obtained for the cavity flow about an underwater body shaped like the Russian high-speed torpedo, Shkval. Results are presented for the cavity shape and the drag of the body under the influence of the gravity and the free surface. The evolution of the cavity with the body speed is discussed and the calculated cavity shapes are compared with the photographs of the cavity taken from an underwater launch experiment. Also the variation of the drag for a wide range of the body speed is investigated and analyzed in details.
Long span bridges such as steel cable stayed and suspension bridges are usually more flexible than short to medium span bridges and expected to have large deformations. Deflections due to live load for long span bridges are important since it controls the overall heights of the bridge for securing the clearance under the bridge and serviceability for securing the comfort of passengers or pedestrians. In case of sea-crossing bridges, the clearance of bridges is determined considering the height of the ship master from the surface of the water, the trim of the ship, the psychological free space, the tide height, and live load deflection. In the design of bridges, live load deflection is limited to a certain value to minimize the vibrations. However, there are not much studies that consider the live load deflection and its effects for long span bridges. The purpose of this study is to investigate the suitability of live load deflection limit and its actual effects on serviceability of bridges for steel cable-stayed and suspension bridges. Analytical study is performed to calculate the natural frequencies and deflections by design live load. Results are compared with various design limits and related studies by Barker et al. (2011) and Saadeghvaziri et al. (2012). Two long span bridges are selected for the case study, Yi Sun-Sin grand bridge (suspension bridge, main span length = 1545 m) and Young-Hung grand bridge (cable stayed bridge, main span length = 240 m). Long-term measured deflection data by GNSS system are collected from Yi Sun-Sin grand bridge and compared with the theoretical values. Probability of exceedance against various deflection limits are calculated from probability distribution of 10-min maximum deflection. The results of the study on the limitation of live load deflection are expected to be useful reference for the design, the proper planning and deflection review of the long span bridges around the world.
