The excitation forces from the periodical firing pressure in cylinder and the rotating crank mechanism cause lots of vibration problems in diesel engine. In this paper, the theoretical formulas for excitation forces are introduced and computational program for the optimization of crank angle is also developed to reduce the free moments in diesel engine. The computational results of 4-stroke in-line engine are applied to verify the reliability of the program.
The aerodynamic characteristics of a separated captive body in flow field around aircraft are studied to observe aerodynamic stability for safe separation from aircraft. Since the captive body separated from aircraft is initially exposed to unsteady flow pattern, the change of aerodynamic forces and moments should be measured to analyze how the flow pattern affects on the captive body at the vicinity of aircraft. Aerodynamic forces and moments of the separated captive body are measured at selected positions along predictable dropping trajectories. The measuring trajectories, generated by the free drop test of the dropping model in the wind tunnel, are consisted of 9 possible lines by free dropped trajectories. Experimental results show that the aerodynamic forces and moments are significantly varied with the distance between the captive body and aircraft. In conclusion, the change of aerodynamic characteristics within flow field around aircraft should be considered to simulate trajectories of the separated captive body from aircraft.
In this study, the turbulent free surface around KVLCC1 employed in the circular motion test simulation is numerically calculated using a commercial CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) code, FLUENT. Also, hydrodynamic forces and yaw moments around a ship model are calculated during the steady turning. Numerical simulations of the turbulent flows with free surface around KVLCC1 have been carried out by use of RANS equation based on calculation of hydrodynamic forces and yaw moments exerted upon the ship hull. Wave elevation is simulated by using the VOF method. VOF method is known as one of the most effective numerical techniques handling two-fluid domains of different density simultaneously. Boundary layer thickness and wake field are changed various yaw velocities of ship model during the steady turning. The calculated hydrodynamic forces are compared with those obtained by model tests.
During a straight driving and cornering maneuver by a vehicle various forces and moments are exerted on the tire's footprint. A cornering properties, handling and stability performances of vehicle can be predicted by these forces and moments values. Therefore, on this study, a lateral force and a aligning torque are predicted by these forces and moments values. Therefore, on this study, a lateral force and a aligning torque are predicted using a finite element method. Contact area of the tire between bead and wheel are fixed to simplify of a finite element model. Lateral force is exerted on the rigid surface as a real load with Coulum friction after inflate and load vertically. Then, rotate the tire's axle to simulate a free rolling untill taken the equilibrium of a aligning torque. Also, experimental observations are made to test a reliability of a FE analysis conducted in this study. The finite element analysis said that good agreement was obtained with experimental results of these cornering properties, giving confidence within about one percent. So it os recommended that a finite element analysis can be used as a good tool to predicted the tire cornering properties.
In general the drift result in ship heeling, thus it seems to be necessary to analyze the ship motion by considering both the drifting and heeling phenomena. In this paper, a drift velocity and a heeling angle are given as prior conditions, and then within the linear potential theory the hydrodynamic coefficients and wave exciting forces and moments are derived for a ship advancing and drifting with constant speeds. And numerical calculations are preformed for a cylindrical body of shiplike cross section at zerp forward velocity. The 2-D hydrodynamic forces and moments of a heeled cylinder are calculated by using the Frank Close-Fit method. These numerical results for the oscillating cylinder without drift velocity have shown better agreements with experimental data than the numerical results of Kobayashi[2]. The motion responses for a drifting cylinder are calculated ignoring the drift velocity effect in the free surface condition. The accuracy of these calculations can not be verified, because the experimental data are not available. Through these numerical calculations to so concluded that drift velocity effects on the body motion are signiffcant.
Hydrodynamic forces and moments produced by the swaying oscillation on the free surface were exactly calculated by Ursell-Tasai method for the cylinders with Kim's chine form sections and the sway responses of the cylinders of those chine form sections among the regular beam sea were also calculated. The results of the computation were compared with those of Lewis form sections. It is concluded that the effects of the section form on the added mass, and damping are small, if the section forms had same beam-draft ratio and sectional area coefficient in the case of sway motion. It is also known that the above little effects of section shapes on the basic hydrodynamic forces do not effect on the sway motion responses of cylinderical bodies among the regular beam sea. The sway motion responses of cylinderical bodies are varied linearly with the wave numbers.
Dynamic analysis is important in structural design of SCARA or articulated type industrial robots and is' usually done to main three axes. In this paper, robot arm dynamics was analyzed using FBD(free body diagram). Though the proposed scheme becomes complex as DOF(degree of freedom)increases, it allows to see types and directions of forces and moments acting on the body. Therefore, the strength analysis of robot arm can be done relatively easy in a case of either closed or open loop chain. This method can be used for obtaining dynamic simulation at off-line programming system and calculating required torques at joints at on-line system.
This paper presents numerical results of the added mass and damping coefficients of vertical axisymmetric bodies on or under the free surface. Also computed are the excitation forces on these bodies due to an incident regular wave system. The numerical scheme employs a localized finite-element method, which is based on the theory of the calculus of variations. The excitation forces and moments on a submerged half-spheroid lying on the bottom are computed and compared with the results obtained by others. he agreement is good. Several specific types of floating vertical axisymmetric platforms are considered for ten different wave lengths, in connection with the design of an ocean-thermal-energy converter platform. The added mass and damping coefficient, as well as the excitations, are presented. It is shown that simple strip theory gives a good approximation of the sway(and pitch) added mass for a disc platform having a long circular cylinder.

This paper presents exact solutions for the modal stress-resultant distributions for vibrating rectangular Mindlin plates involving two opposite sides simply supported while the other two sides free. These exact stress-resultants of vibrating plates with free edges, hitherto unavailable, are very important because they serve as benchmark solutions for checking numerical solutions and methods. Using the exact solutions of a square plate, this paper highlights the problem of determining accurate stress-resultants, especially the transverse shear forces and twisting moments in thin plates, when employing the widely used numerical methods such as the Ritz method and the finite element method. Thus, this study shows that there is a need for researchers to develop refinements to the Ritz method and the finite element method for determining very accurate stress-resultants in vibrating plates with free edges.
