Trouble-free operation of cooling water systems is essential for efficient pro¬duction in most industrial facilities. Improper water treatments frequently cause such problems as corrosion, scaling, fouling and slime formation. Water quality, methods of cooling and materials of construction in the cooling circuit should be carefully studied before making selection of the water treatment programs. This paper reviewed cooling water problems encountered frequently in the open recirculating cooling systems and discussed the counter measures how to cope with them.
This paper presents the vibration characteristics of a cantilever beam in contact with a fluid using a PZT actuator and PVDF film. dynamic behaviors of a flexible beam-water interaction system are examined. The effect of the liquid level on free vibration of the composite beam in a partially liquid-filled circular cylinder is investigated. The coupled system is subject to an undisturbed boundary condition un the fluid domain. In the vibration analysis of a wetted beam. the decoupled analyses between beam and fluid have been conventionally employed by considering first the composite beam vibration in the all and secondly Performing the correction taking account for surrounding fluid effects. That is, this investigation was to look at how natural frequencies, mode shapes. and damping are affected by liquid level variations. The signals from the sensor according to the applied input voltage are digitalized and filtered in order to obtain the dynamic characteristics of the composite beam in contact with fluid. It was found that the coupled natural frequencies decreased with the fluid level for the identical composite beam due to added mass effect. In case of the free-free boundary condition, the natural frequency gently decreased at fluid water level between 20% and 80% in the first tending mode and we found out the bends of stair shape for added mass effect of the fluid.
Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of Xanthium sibiricum Patr. on carcinogenesis. Method: Water extract from Xanthium sibiricum Patr. (XPW) was prepared and investigated for the potential antitumor activity and inhibition of benzo[a]pyrene-DNA adduct formation and free radical formation. Concentration of XPW at 1.0 mg/mL and 2.5 mg/mL resulted in more than 30% inhibition of growth in HeLa cells. Toxicity of XPW to A549 revealed that 54% inhibition of growth at concentration of 2.5 mg/mL. At concentrations of 0.5 mg/mL, 1.0 mg/mL and 2.5 mg/mL of XPW, the binding of [$^3H$]B[a]P metabolites to DNA of human Chang cell was inhibited by 19%, 33%, and 41%, respectively. There 18% and 32% inhibition in the free radical formation with XPW at the concentration of 1.0 mg/mL and 2.5 mg/mL, respectively. Conclusion: Water extract from Xanthium sibiricum Patr. (XPW) has antitumor and cancer chemopreventive activities.
This study was carried out to determine the mechanical and physical properties of particle boards glued with condensed tannin (Wattle Tannin) powder that was single-molecule phenolic compounds like powdered phenolic resin. Our findings are; 1) It is necessary to spray water on the chip surfaces for effective application of powdered -form tannin resin. It shows that the best and optimum mat moisture increase is 14% of water spray on the surface of chips for developing PB properties. 2) In general, for both liquid and powdered tannin adhesives, their physical and mechanical properties has been proportional to the increase of resin level. But, the most efficient addition ratio is 16% of resin on dry basis. Specially, it is found that the resin level influences on the amount of free formaldehyde emission. The higher the resin level is, the lower the emission is. These phenomena seem to result from the increase of hexamine or formaline in the adhesives used as a hardener, that reduce the free-formaldehyde amount by reaction of tannin of poly-molecule and water. 3) The optimum condition for manufacturing PBs is the condition of hexamine of 5% and formaline of 6% in mechanical and physical properties. Hexamine is superior to formaline in mechanical and physical properties along with the control of the free formaldehyde emission amount. The result of NaOH's addition is insignificant in all experiments of both mechanical and physical properties.
ZSM-5 membrane was prepared on tubular macroporous ${\alpha}$-alumina support using a different synthesis route. The effects of organic template agent and Si/Al ratio of the synthesis gel on morphology, structure, and separation performance of the ZSM-5 membrane used for dehydration of isopropanol were investigated. High water perm-selectivity ZSM-5 membrane with a thickness of about $3.0{\mu}m$ and a low Si/Al ratio of 10.1 was successfully prepared from organotemplate-free synthesis gel with a molar composition of $SiO_2$ : $0.050Al_2O_3$ : $0.21Na_2O$ : NaF : $51.6H_2O$ at $175^{\circ}C$ for 24 h. The ZSM-5 membrane exhibited high pervaporation performance with a flux of $3.92kg/(m^2{\cdot}h)$ and corresponding separation factor of higher than 10,000 for dehydration of 90 wt.% isopropanol/water mixture at $75^{\circ}C$.
Large efforts have recently been made on research and development of sustainable and energy-efficient short-cut nitrogen removal processes owing to strong attention to the energy neutral/positive wastewater treatment system. Anaerobic ammonium oxidizing bacteria (anammox bacteria) have been highlighted since 1990's due to their unique advantages including 60% less energy consumption, nearly 100% reduction for carbon source requirement, and 80% less sludge production. Side-stream short-cut nitrogen removal using anammox bacteria and partial nitritation anammox (PN/A) has been well established, whereas substantial challenges remain to be addressed mainly due to undesired main-stream conditions for anammox bacteria. These include low temperature, low concentrations of ammonia, nitrite, free ammonia, free nitrous acid or a combination of those. In addition, an anammox side-stream nitrogen management is insufficient to reduce overall energy consumption for energy-neutral or energy positive water resource recovery facility (WRRF) and at the same time to comply with nitrogen discharge regulation. This implies the development of the successful main-stream anammox based technology will accelerate a conversion of current wastewater treatment plants to sustainable water and energy recovery facility. This study discusses the status of the research, key mechanisms & interactions of the protagonists in the main-stream PN/A, and control parameters and major challenges in process development.
Deep sea water has cold temperature, abundant nutrients and minerals, and good water quality that is pathogen-free and stable. Compared with surface water, deep sea water contains more nutrition salt, such as nitrogen and phosphor. Moreover, if has the good balance of minerals. Because of the ability of the spray drying process to produce a free-flowing power considering of spherical particles with a well-defined size distribution and the rapid drying times for heat-sensitive material, spray drying is attractive for a wide range of applications spray drying is a unique unit operation in which powders are produced from a liquid feed in a single processing step. Key component of the process are atomizer, spray chamber. Design of spray chamber should be based on the atomizer type, the production rate, and the particle size required. Because of the complex processes taking place during spray drying, traditional design method are based on pilot-plant tests and empirical scale-up rules. Modern technique such as CFD have a role to play in design and troubleshooting.
This work present the experimental resutls for the free vibration of unstiffened, stiffened cylindrical shell filled with air, half water and full water. The natural frequencies and mode shapes of unstiffened, stiffened cylindrical shell are obtained experimentally also. The natural frequencies of stiffened cylindrical shell were generally highter than those of unstiffened cylindrical shell and natural requencies were decreased as cylindrical shell was filled with water. The effect of circumferential stiffener in the first mode was shown that natural frequency more increased 25% at air environment, 29% at half water environment and 37% at full water than those of unstiffened cylindrical shell, respectively. Also, the natural frequencies were decreased according to the added mass effect of fluid in the shell of unstiffened and stiffened cylindrical shell. The six mode shape results of all cases are simular and given. The natural frequencies are determined for a wide range of parameters : e.g. unstiffened shell, and filled with air, half and full water. The effects of varying the parameters on the free vibration frequencies and mode shapes are discussed.
Green water load is an important parameter to be considered in designing a modern ship or offshore structures like FPSO and FSRU. In this research, a numerical simulation method for green water phenomenon is introduced. The Navier-Stokes equations and the continuity equation are used as governing equations. The equations are calculated using Finite Difference Method(FDM) in rectangular staggered grid system. To increase the numerical accuracy near the body, the Cartesian cut cell method is employed. The nonlinear free-surface during green water incident is defined by Marker-density method. The green waters on a box in regular waves are simulated. The simulation results are compared with other experimental and computational results for verification. To check the applicability to moving ship, the green water of the ship which is towed by uniform force in regular wave, is simulated. The ship is set free to heave and to surge.
