Due to the lack of digitally usable standards, it has been known to be difficult to handle the biological data. For example, the name of genes and proteins changes over time or has several synonyms indicating different entities. To cope with these problems, several communities, including the Gene Ontology Consortium and PubGene are making their efforts to move science toward the semantic web vision. Although some progress has been made, its expressivity is not sufficient for full-fledged ontological modeling and reasoning. This paper suggests a methodology for representing and extracting biological knowledge by using Web Ontology Language (OWL) as an extension of Resource Description Framework Schema (RDFS). Some benefits of our approach are: (1) to ensure extended sharing of biological meta data on the Web, and (2) to enrich additional expressivity and the semantics of RDFS+OWL.
As a part of ebXML(Electronic Business using eXtensible Markup Language) framework, BPSS(Business Process Specification Schema) has been provided to support the direct specification of the set of elements required to configure a runtime system in order to execute a set of ebXML business transactions. The BPS,' is available in two stand-alone representations, a UML version and an XML version. Due to the limitations of UML notations and XML syntax, however, current ebXML BPSS specification fails to specify formal semantic constraints completely. In this study, we propose a constraint classification scheme for the BPSS specification and describe how to formally represent those semantic constraints using OCL(Object Constraint Language). As a way to validate p Business Process Specification(BPS) with the formal semantic constraints, we suggest a rule-based approach to represent the formal constraints and demonstrate its detailed mechanism for applying the rule-based constraints to the BPS with a prototype implementation.
As the Proliferation of the Internet, especially World Wide Web, numerous information resources have been constructed. The characteristics of information resources on the Internet are that the information resources are distributed, autonomous, and heterogeneous. Moreover each information resource has its own query method, data representation, and schema structure. The integration of information resources is one of the most important research issues in the Internet data management. The task of information resources integration system is to answer queries that require extracting and combining data from multiple information sources. In this paper, we propose an XML-based Mediation Framework(XMF) for integrating the Internet information resources.
Effectively integrating information systems in mergers and acquisitions of large organizations can be critical to merger success. But the general literature on M&A focuses on the financial aspects of the acquisition process, rather than on the subsequent process of integration. This paper analyses the case of information systems integration in a merger of two Korean manufacturing organizations, and explores the factors influencing IS integration in M&A in Korea. To analysis this case and find factors affecting IS integration success, we use MIT'90s schema (framework) by Scott Morton that consists of 5 dimensions (strategy, processes, structure, individuals/roles, and technology). From the results of this case study, we found 13 factors and 14 propositions influencing IS integrations performance in M&A in Korean companies. This research helps the company to avoid mistakes and to manage IS integration in M&A. Also this study provides guide line for further researches.

This paper suggests metadata as an effective search tool suitable for moving images on the web. Dublin Core, a leading metagata sceme of web resources, and MPEG-7, a coming international standard developed by MPEG, are used to construct a hybrid metadata scheme. RDF is selected as a framework for a matadata description and Moving Image Core was developed as a RDF schema. Finally, RDF/XML encoded metadata of moving images are retrieved throuth web-based database system using ASP technology.

Currently, many companies are trying to be more competitive by implementing the most appropriate software package, called ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning). ERP can support the company's business process. A repository, which can store and retrieve enterprise-wide information, is a key component of such software package. This paper implements an enterprise repository for the ERP. A well-known repository standard, IRDS (Information Resource Dictionary System), is employed for the repository architecture. The proposed metadata schema can help develop database, business applications, models, and workflow. To illustrate the practical usefulness, a real-life ERP prototype is built within the framework of the proposed repository.

This paper presents the role and its function of Tool server. MPEG-21 means multimedia framework for delivery and consumption of multimedia which is being discussed in ISO/IEC 21000. A view of MPEC-21 aims to define multimedia framework to enable transparent use of multimedia resource across a wide range of networks and devices used by different communities. MPEG-21 will enable all-electronic creation delivery and trade of digital multimedia content and transparent usage of various content types on network device. Therefore, we can provide access to information and services from almost anywhere at anytime with various terminals and networks. In order to support multimedia delivery chain that contains content creation, production, delivery and consumption, we need many standards(elements) for identify, describe, manage and protect the content. Thus, we define Digital Item Player(DIP), Digital Item Adaptation(DIA) server and Tool server as primary objects of MPEG-21 multimedia framework. DIP provides a function which creates and consumes Digital Item(DI) as a kind of a digital object by user. A DI contains both media resources and metadata including rights information. DIA server deals with the usage environment description schema of the user characteristics, terminal and network characteristics and natural environments. DIA server adapts the original DI to the usage environment description sent from the terminal and transmits the adapted DI to the terminal. Tool server searches for a tool requested from DIP or DIA and downloads the best tool to DIP or DIA server. In this paper, we present how Tool sewer is organized and is used among 2 primary objects. The paper is structured as followings: Section 1 briefly describes why MPEG-21 is needed and what MPEG-21 wants. We see requirement that tool server must equip functionally in section 2. The proposed tool server, its structure and its functionality are presented in section 3. Section 4 explains a scenario that tool server transmits tool to DIP and shows the experimental result. The paper concludes in section 5.

This paper proposes an algorithm to transform RDF(Resource Description Framework) models for ontology into CPN(Colored Petri Net) models. The algorithm transforms the semantics of the RDF model into the topology of the CPN by mapping the classes and the properties of the RDF onto the places of the CPN model then reflects the RDF statements on the CPN by representing the relationships between them as token transitions on the CPN. The basic idea of reflecting the RDF statements on the CPN is to generate a token, which is an ordered pair consisting of two tokens (one from the place mapped into the subject and the other one from the place mapped into the object) and transfer it to the place mapped into the predicate. We have actually built CPN models for given RDF models on the CNPTools and inferred and extracted answers to the RDF queries on the CPNTools.
A data mining system includes various data mining functions such as aggregation, association and classification, among others. To express these data mining function, a powerful data mining query language is needed. In addition, a graphic user interface(GUI) based on the data mining query language is needed for users. In addition, processing a data mining query targeted for a data warehouse, which is the appropriate data repository for decision making, is needed. In this paper, we first build a GUI to enable users to easily define data mining queries. We then propose a data mining query processing framework that can be used to process a data mining query targeted for a data warehouse. We also implement a schema generate a data warehouse schema that is needed to build a data warehouse. Lastly, we show the implementation details of a query processor that can process queries that discover association rules.
