  • Satellite imagery is generally used for investigating the damage from natural disaster for wide area and remotely piloted vehicle or aerial photos are used for the local damage. But for more detailed information such as damages of public facilities, these methods are inadequate and so in this case field surveying has been carried out. We tried to estimate the damage of public facilities faster and more accurately using photogrammetric method. We developed a digital stereo camera system by fixing two digital cameras on a frame, and with this system the photos of actually damaged areas were collected. The damages were estimated from these stereo photos. Then the estimated data was compared with field surveying data in order to verify our system.

  • The intelligent robots that will be needed in the near future are human-friendly robots that are able to coexist with humans and support humans effectively. To realize this, robots need to recognize their position and posture in known environment as well as unknown environment. Moreover, it is necessary for their localization to occur naturally. It is desirable for a robot to estimate of his position by solving uncertainty for mobile robot navigation, as one of the best important problems. In this paper, we describe a method for the localization of a mobile robot using image information of a moving object. This method combines the observed position from dead-reckoning sensors and the estimated position from the images captured by a fixed camera to localize a mobile robot. Using a priori known path of a moving object in the world coordinates and a perspective camera model, we derive the geometric constraint equations which represent the relation between image frame coordinates for a moving object and the estimated robot's position. Also, the control method is proposed to estimate position and direction between the walking human and the mobile robot, and the Kalman filter scheme is used for the estimation of the mobile robot localization. And its performance is verified by the computer simulation and the experiment.

  • In this paper, we propose a real-time pose estimation method for a monocular camera using a particle filter integrated with UKF (unscented Kalman filter). While conventional camera tracking techniques combine camera images with data from additional devices such as gyroscopes and accelerometers, the proposed method aims to use only two-dimensional visual information from the camera without additional sensors. This leads to a significant simplification in the hardware configuration. The proposed approach is based on a particle filter integrated with UKF. The pose of the camera is estimated using UKF, which is defined individually for each particle. Statistics regarding the camera state are derived from all particles of the particle filter, from which the real-time camera pose information is computed. The proposed method demonstrates robust tracking, even in the case of rapid camera shakes and severe scene occlusions. The experiments show that our method remains robust even when most of the feature points in the image are obscured. In addition, we verify that when the number of particles is 35, the processing time per frame is approximately 25ms, which confirms that there are no issues with real-time processing.

  • This paper describes a marine watch system on a ship, which is aided by an image processing method. The system detects other ships through a navigational image sequence to prevent oversights, and it measures their bearings to maintain their movements. The proposed method is described, the detection techniques and measurement of bearings techniques are derived, and the results have been reported. The image is divided into small regions on the basis of the brightness value and then labeled. Each region is considered as a template. A template is assumed to be a ship. Then, the template is compared with frames in the original image after a selected time. A moving vector of the regions is calculated using an Excel table. Ships are detected using the characteristics of the moving vector. The video camera captures 30 frames per second. We segmented one frame into approximately 5000 regions; from these, approximately 100 regions are presumed to be ships and considered to be templates. Each template was compared with frames captured at 0.33 s or 0.66 s. In order to improve the accuracy, this interval was changed on the basis of the magnification of the video camera. Ships’ bearings also need to be determined. The proposed method can measure the ships’ bearings on the basis of three parameters: (1) the course of the own ship, (2) arrangement between the camera and hull, and (3) coordinates of the ships detected from the image. The course of the own ship can be obtained by using a gyrocompass. The camera axis is calibrated along a particular direction using a stable position on a bridge. The field of view of the video camera is measured from the size of a known structure on the hull in the image. Thus, ships’ bearings can be calculated using these parameters.

  • Digital topographical maps used for GIS DB are mainly produced by the traditional way of analogue aerial photogrammetry. Therefore, analogue photos are only available for digital mapping after preprocessing such as film developing, printing and scanning. However, digital aerial camera is able to get digital image directly without preprocessing and thus the performance and efficiency of photogrammetry are extremely increased. This study aims to investigate geometric stability of digital aerial frame camera DMC (Digital Modular Camera). In order to verify the geometric stability of digital aerial camera DMC, some different block conditions with and without cross strips, GPS/INS data and variation of GCPs are introduced in the block adjustment. The accuracy results of every block condition were compared each other by computation of residuals of exterior orientation (EO) parameters. Results of study shows that the geometric stability of the block adjustment with cross strips is increased about 30% against without cross strips. The accuracy of EO parameters of block adjustment with cross strips is also increased about 2cm for X-coordinate, 3cm for Y-coordinate, 3cm for Z-coordinate, and 6" for omega, 4" for phi and 3" for kappa.

  • This paper presents a new non-contact 3D robotic inspection system to measure the precise positions of screw and punch holes on a car body frame. The newly developed sensor consists of a CCD camera, two laser line generators and LED light. This lightweight sensor can be mounted on an industrial robot hand. An inspection algorithm and system that work with this sensor is presented. In performance evaluation tests, the measurement accuracy of this inspection system was about 200 ${\mu}m$, which is a sufficient accuracy in the automotive industry.

  • In this study we'll deal with the small-sized metalized film capacitors with large capacity which head have $5mm{\times}5mm{\times}2.5mm$ dimension. The lead wire is used to weld at both sides of capacitors. At that time the position gap between the welding machine and lead wire supplier would cause the welding error. Also, during the tapping processing of metalized film capacitors, the interval error among the capacitors, the length error of lead frame attached at the capacitors, and the straightness distortion of the lead frame could happen. As mentioned, four kinds of error parameters will be measured and analyzed by using the automatic visual inspection system that is implemented with CCD camera, optical parts, background lighting, and image processing algorithms. Finally we are able to achieve success rate above 99% to detect the welding faults of capacitors in the field test.

  • Generally, most of machining processes are done according to the dimention of the draft made by CAD. However, there are many cases that a sample is given without the draft because of the simplicity of the shape in the machining of 2D objects. To cut the same shape as the given sample, this paper proposes the method to extract the geometric information about a large sample using the robot vision and to draw the demensional draft for the machining. Because the resolution of one frame in the vision system is too low, it is necessary to set up a camera according to the desired resolution and to capture the image moving along the contour. And the overall outline can be compounded of the sequentially captured images. In the experiment, we compared the product after the cutting with the original sample and found that the size of two objects was coincided within the allowed error bound.
